NHL Trade Deadline Day Open Thread: Part 2
1:33- L.A Kings acquire: Jeff Halpern
Tampa Bay Lightning acquire: TBD
1:32- Phoenix Coyotes acquire: Mathieu Schneider.
Vancouver Canucks acquire: TBD
12:54- New York Rangers acquire: Kris Newbury
Detroit Red Wings acquire: Jordan Owens
Owens never really worked out for the Rangers in the AHL. As for Newbury I don't know much about him, and I'm not too sure if he helps at all.
12:46: Phoenix Coyotes acquire: Wojtek Wolski
Colorado Avalanche acquire: Peter Mueller and Kevin Porter.
Thats too bad, I really wanted the Rangers to go after Mueller. Oh well.
12:41- Vancouver Canucks acquire: Yan Stastny
St. Louis Blues acquire: Pierre-Cedric Labrie
12:35- Washington Capitals acquire: Scott Walker
Carolina Hurricanes acquire: 7th round pick (date TBD)
12:04- As per the tweeting of Bob McKenzie: Aaron Voros and Enver Lisin clear waivers.
Anything in italics means I'm speculating, or that I'm saying that. Rangers have 1.8 million dollars in cap room now.
11:42- Anaheim Ducks acquire Aaron Ward.
Carolina Hurricanes acquire Justin Poggeand a 4th round pick (date TBD)
11:32- Boston Bruins acquire: Dennis Seidenberg and Matthew Bartkowski.
Florida Panthers acquires: Craig Weller, Byron Bitzand a 2nd round pick (date TBD).
Here is your open thread for the afternoon of Trade Deadline Day.
Joe, Nick, and Greg will be posting the latest trades here in the story, feel free to discuss them in the thread, along with any rumors, speculation, whatever.
Don't forget, tonight at 8 PM, Eddie and I will break down all the Ranger moves on Blueshirt Banter Radio.
Enjoy!

so for ponikoravsky...
the leafs get Luca Caputi and NJ’s 5th rounder…not a bad deal lol
FYI the skoula to NJ was for a 5th rounder
11:10am) To clarify, Panthers are not shopping Vokoun, teams are calling them and they’re listening… Oilers in same boat with Gilbert, who has attracted serious interest from a team in East.
thats from the fourth period
Thanks for the update.
Honestly I’d like to see that deal get done just so Philly fans can piss and moan about it.

Per Hockeybuzz
Demitra to New York?
According to our very own Andy Strickland, the Rangers have and will “take a hard look” at Pavol Demitra, who saw his stock rise after having an incredible run at the 2010 Olympics. He’s been almost pushed out in Vancouver, so it makes sense that they’re shopping him. He’s a veteran who still has some miles left in the tank, and could work with Gaborik.

Hopefully not. I think Souray would have been done by now if it was going to happen, but Demitra worries me. That sounds like a Sather move.

This is Sather’s warm-up trade so he doesn’t pull a groin during the big blockbuster, cap-crippling trade.
28 yr old career AHL’er for a 24 yr old career AHL’er.
If it actually meant anything, I might be peeved.

Here's what it means
Owens not in #NYR plans.
Somebody had some interest in him (DET).
Newbury is a “sign and release”. His deal expires @ end of season.
Frees up a contract slot for over the summer – and the NYR were at the 50 max.
That’s about it.

Canucks talking with Stars about a possible Cory Schneider and Fabian Brunnstrom trade, i would have to think more players would be involved

Anyone think...
Gabby’s down playing his injury so the media won’t start the whole “Look we told you he was injury prone” argument?

@jonas640: Kaberle just acknowledged that he’d consider waiving no-trade if the right deal came along.
anyone knows who’s shopping?
Hopefully
What he should be doing. Sitting on the sidelines, waiting for cap clearing/contract clearing moves to shape up. Otherwise avoiding the temptation to do something stupid.

DownGoesBrown I hear air raid sirens outside. I’m assuming this means Tomas Kaberle has agreed to waive?

I'm back from lunch, guys.
And I’m caught up with the only Ranger deal so far…Owens for Newbury. I’m still ear-to-the-Sirius for either Gilbert and Pisani from EDM, or Frolov, O’Donnell, and Greene from LA.
Danz
Good for Don Maloney
I wish he was still with the NYR. The guy deserves some credit for what he’s done in Phoenix over the past year, and he made some good moves today to help the Coyotes for the stretch run. (not to mention he was probably pretty pissed off after watching his team get smacked around in a 5-2 loss to St. Louis last night)
