Edmonton Oilers acquire: Aaron Johnson and a third rounder
3:30- Anaheim Ducks acquire: Lubomir Visnovsky

Big day for the 'Yotes!
It is Officially 3 p.m. but more deals will probably be announced over the next hour.
------------------------------
2:56- Washington Capitals (re)acquire: Milan Jurcina
Columbus Blue Jackets acquire: TBA
Trade him in December, but then go back and reacquire him in March. Odd.
2:40- Atlanta Thrashers acquire: Clarke MacArthur
Buffalo Sabres acquire: 3rd and 4rd draft pick (date TBD)
Just over ten minutes left, but remember, many deals are announced after 3 pm.
2:27- Buffalo Sabres acquire: Raffi Torres
Columbus Blue Jackets acquire: Nathan Paetsch and a 2nd round pick (date TBD)
Final 30 minutes here. Home stretch it is for Sather. He's gonna make a move.
2:03- Anaheim Ducks acquire: Curtis McElhinney
Calgary Flames acquire: Vesa Toskala
Well the Toskala experiment in Anaheim lasted long ...
1:47- Washington Capitals acquire: Eric Belanger
Minnisota Wild acquire: A 2nd round pick (date TBD)
You guys have been simply awesome. So awesome in fact, that the last thread was lagging from all the comments. Use this as your third, and final (maybe) open thread for this trade deadline. Remember it's official over at 3, but the deals only have to be finalized by then, so deals can be announced after 3. I will keep updating this with trades.

WHAT I WOULD DO..
TRADE redden and a 1st rd pick to anyone(souray?) and then trade prospal, oli, and girardi for draft picks and maybe prospects (i doubt it though). I think we can get up to 4 picks for those guys. See you in the eastern conference finals in 2 years.

Thank you for updaing the trade thread and providing information as the info comes through.. My favorite site…
On another note, I feel something is brewing with Glen Sather quiet to date. With the rangers up against the cap this year will be difficult to move one of the R &R contracts, Albeit Rozy has been playing very well and has increased his value for a team looking for some veteran depth on the back end. However, who is going to take the contract?
Oooooh…interesting.

Sell everyone except the prospects and our young core!!!!!
We need winners, and play better when we dont lean on Gaborik anyway. Sell high on Gaborik and Henrik and watch this team become a serious force for the next 5-10 years.
Sir, please stay in your seat.
An attendant will be by shortly to smash you in the testicles with a tack hammer.
Thank you.
isnt the point to get rid of the bad players?
I wouldnt call Hank and Gabby bad.. they are the foundation of the team.
I am not calling them bad. Henrik is an above average goalie, but he chokes all the time. He isnt a big game goalie and thats what you need in the playoffs. Gaborik is amazing, our best player by far and I love watching him. Now here comes the but….. Gaborik is injury prone and I would bet you anything that within 2 years everyone will be bitching about him just like every other injury prone player we have picked up thru the years. Gaborik’s stock will not get any higher than it is today, so if you are a smart GM you trade him.
He isnt a big game goalie????!!!!
Bro, you outta your mind? A gold medal? I’d say that was a big game….
Did you watch the playoffs last yr? Ho many games did he steal for us against the Caps?
by giantsNYrangers on Mar 3, 2010 3:01 PM EST up reply actions
4 years ago he was a different goalie, now he is Hollywood Hank. You mean the playoffs where he had a 3-1 series lead and couldn’t out the caps away? Or the Hank who choked against the Slovaks this year?
You cant blame Hank for the loss to the Caps last year
that was a team loss. And he had the lowest GAA in the tourney….unfortunately those goals came against the Slovaks. Have youwatched him play this yr?….he’s been one of the best in the league
by giantsNYrangers on Mar 3, 2010 3:06 PM EST up reply actions
Seriously...
did you even see that game against the slovaks?
bro....get off the sauce
its getting to your head for real. You need to watch a Ranger game obviously
by giantsNYrangers on Mar 3, 2010 3:10 PM EST up reply actions
Then watch it again.
Two of the goals was scored in a open net caused by bad defence. the third goal was thats to ohlunds weak performance in front of the net and the final goal as on a rebound after a huge save…
If you dont like hank then fine.. but get your facts right
Hey Coleko, can i have the # to your drug dealer?

Elite playoff goalies dont lose when they are up 3-1 in a playoff series. The Henrik love is insane. Its like the one thing Ranger fans can hold on to. Don’t you see that within a year or 2 the ISLANDERS will be better than us for a long time to come.
Bro, go lay down really
it’s been a long day for you.

thats just foolish to trade him and a good prospect
they just need big bodies in d and in the crease
just think.. for prospal olli and girardi we could have gotten a first and 2 seconds or something
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
The Last Thing We Need
Is draft picks, especially first rounders. Malholtra, Lundmark, Brendl, Blackburn, Montoya, Jessiman, Korpikoski and Cherepanov (RIP)
Recently, only Staal and Del Zotto have made any impact what so ever
by The Last Shall Become First on Mar 3, 2010 3:30 PM EST up reply actions
probably add another pick or prospect from prospal but yes.
by Michael Gleich on Mar 3, 2010 3:22 PM EST up reply actions
Could they have?
In theory yes, obviously given the deals around the league.
But I’m not sure the deals were there for them.
Master of the squeegee
or whether sather was willing to make them
I think he thinks highly of prospal, and isnt going to ditch ollie after just getting him. girardi is another story.
its probably more likely no one wanted Girardi by himself but sather wasnt willing to package him with anything worthwhile
This Can't Be
No Deal?
Ever since he took over for Smith, Sather has been making deadline deals like its going out of style. Bure, Poti, Carter, Ozolinsh, Morris, Antropov. He must of done something
by The Last Shall Become First on Mar 3, 2010 3:24 PM EST reply actions
Enoug is Enough!!!
Sather either didn’t try to make much happen or he couldn’t because he saddled his team with untradeable players and contracts!! His big move was trading someone I never heard of for someone else I never heard of!! Time to go!!!

sad to say we’re stuck for a few seasons with this.
by saw1stgame1960 on Mar 3, 2010 3:40 PM EST up reply actions
i think the problem with the rangers today
is that they dont noe where they are…because the East sucks minus the top 4 teams…anything is possible so no team is out of it so far that they can sell and no team under the 4 spot is guanteed anything and doesnt want to sell off a piece it might need for a rental…because the rangers could right now go either way
Today
= fail… we did not make any significant moves, didn’t clear cap space, and if we are trying to make a push we didn’t even improve… Honestly we should have been sellers and threw up the fire sale sign… I think we have young players to fill the ranks, and not trading girardi was an epic fail, not even getting a draft pick for a player that most definitely will not be back next year unless he makes a mil or less… I thought we were actually going to do something right for a change and sell but apparently not…
I think we all know which way the Rangers are going.......and its nowhere good

Wait a second
In of the biggest blockbusters in NHL history, the NYR got Kris Newbury from the Wings in exchange for Jordan Owens. Newbury has been called by many, “The Real Next One” and is said to have Gretzky like skills. So Sather did come through

Rangers have a 2nd minor league deal coming, but they didn’t surrender core youngsters or top prospects for middling rentals. That’s a plus.
could be but someone would have just claimed him on recall waivers for 1/2 price.

There is no telling those propect will be anything (Lundmark, Brendl) I would rather have proven all-stars like Kariya or Tkachuk then a bunch of members of the Wolf Pack
by The Last Shall Become First on Mar 3, 2010 3:57 PM EST up reply actions
you mean over the hill players? havent we been down that road before?
by Michael Gleich on Mar 3, 2010 3:58 PM EST up reply actions
Last I checked Bure scored 50 points in 51 games for us while the prospect we gave up Novak became and did nothing so don’t ever, ever knock Pavel Bure again

last i checked they didnt do it. or does that ruin the story?
by Michael Gleich on Mar 3, 2010 3:56 PM EST up reply actions
Game 7 only lost by one goal, so never say never
by The Last Shall Become First on Mar 3, 2010 3:58 PM EST up reply actions
what’s worse, losing a game 7 or not even making the playoffs?
by #17ToTheRafters on Mar 4, 2010 6:40 AM EST up reply actions
For this franchise?
PERPETUALLY LOSING in the playoffs (1st round, or the rare occasion when they make it to the 2nd) – and then completely RETOOLING the roster every damned off season is a far more damning fate and therefore “worse”.
