Rangers News: Rangers Acquire Eriksson from Coyotes
Another minor deal to report to you here as the New York Rangers have traded Hartford (AHL) goalie Miika Wiikman and a 2011 seventh round draft pick to Phoenix for veteran defenseman Anders Eriksson. Depth move for the Blueshirts. Eriksson will report straight to Hartford.
The New York Rangers added depth along the blue line Wednesday, acquiring defenseman Anders Eriksson from the Phoenix Coyotes in return for goaltending prospect Miika Wiikman and a seventh-round draft pick in 2011.
Eriksson is an 11-year veteran who was part of the Detroit Red Wings' Stanley Cup championship in 1998. He has 0 goals and 3 assists in 12 games with the Coyotes this season. He signed with the Coyotes as a free agent on Dec. 21.
In 564 career games, the 35-year-old has 22 goals and 152 assists.

WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They should start carving our names in the Cup now………
honestly we could have gave away the next Pavol Datsyuk or Henrik Lundqvist for a pointless player in our plans. way to go sather. lol
Dude. Way off on this. We are overstocked on Keepers that will never play. A solid hedge if a late season injury happens to the back line. Our Hartford call-ups haven’t really blown anybody away. Prudent doesn’t mean bad. Let’s bash Sather when warranted. This ain’t the deal to rant over.
oh im not ranting Im just saying Id rather play young players if someone gets injured than old Eriksson who doesnt really play much. and giving away a pick for him is ridiculous even if it is a 7th rounder.

Inexplicable
Even if Wiikman was not likely to ever play for the Rangers, why acquire a 35-year old defenseman who has played only 12 games this season and ship him to Hartford? Guys, the season is almost over and we need help right now. If he can play, why not keep him in New York for the last 20 games? Did Sather want to add a Swede to provide company for Lundqvist?
I don't get
Why we gave up a young goaltender and a 7th round draft pick for a 35 year old Defensemen? Basically we gave up two young players for an over the hill defensemen who probably is no better than what we already have in the minors. It’s unbelieveable…
