Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Say it ain't so Joe (Micheletti)

As if this season wasn't filled with enough frustration, our 'top' analyst team - especially Joe Micheletti - has now reached a level I can no longer tolerate.  After Marc Staal nudged Crosby and he dove, causing the whole fracas with Lundqvist and Dubinsky, what was the first thing out of that two-bit hack's mouth?  "It didn't look like Crosby took a dive..it looked like Staal cross-checked him."  I nearly leapt through my Vizio when I heard that crap.  You know what Joe?  Take your little resume and get on 84 West til you hit 78.  Follow the signs to Pittsburgh, PA and then you can get a job with the Penguins where your head can safely lodge in Sidney Crosby's butt for real, instead of just in your own mind.  I am sick of his flagrant cheer-leading.  Hey Joe, you don't work for Versus, or the NHL network - you are a NEW YORK RANGER announcer.  Sure you give praise where its deserved, and love him or hate him (i hate him) Crosby is a player for the ages and a top draw in this league, which only helps our sport.  But there is no question Crosby dove.  As an ANALYST these guys are paid to report what goes down, not sugarcoat their blessed little hero players who can do no wrong.  And okay, even if we differ on whether or not he actually dove (which he did), what about Henrik Lundqvist's reaction?  What about that Joe, you ingenious observer of the game?  When was the last time #30 opened his mouth to anyone?  Aside from showing frustration at losing, Henrik might as well be Ghandi in that net.  For him to come out like that and get in Crosby's face should tell you something.  And I've been saying it all year, I think Rosen is on autopilot.  Since JD left things have not been the same in that booth.

I've said it all year.  Dave Maloney should be up in that booth with Sam.  He filled in one game before the Olympics and it was an absolute pleasure, and the closest thing to having JD since he left.

Hats off to Dubinsky for attacking Crosby by the way.

Staal may have hit a soft spot, but it was a complete dive. Staal was stationary and reached to push Crosby so he couldn’t cut past Henrik’s crease and Crosby grimaced and collapsed like he’d been shot. Staal barely reached Cindy’s ribs with his arms fully extended.

Henrik should’ve told Cindy he should go to the summer Olympics as part of the Canadian dive team. But I’m guessing Henrik was the better man and told Sid he should be more professional and not dive like that. And of course Sid cross-checks him harder than he got hit. Lundqvist should’ve then dropped to the ground and said ‘Et Tu, Cindy’?

I loved JD, even though he apologized every 5 minutes. But in all seriousness, we could have Chico Resch doing the analysis.

Listening to that night in and night out would force me to go on a shooting rampage.

send him to do Giannone’s job like he did for most of the olympics and send maloney to the booth.

Love this idea and Ive said to my friends before. I think Joe wants to be the one interviewing the players and being seen as their “friend/buddy/whatever” and he could do a better job in the interviews, instead of Giannone who has probably never played an organized sport (I REALLY dont like him). & Maloney would be great in the booth as he was in the 1 game even tho he sometimes says very stupid & confusing things like his rant about someone being Wile E Coyote while avoiding defenders like all the ACME objects. (& Yes he said Coyote, not Roadrunner who is actually the one avoiding) but anyways I think Maloney would be much better in the booth and Joe w/ the players & coaches.

Micheletti is terrible. He has no chemistry with Sam – I get the sense they don’t even like each other. They should bring Maloney in to team with Sam, and if Sam retires, they should pair Gary Thorne with Maloney.

Sam and Joe are brutal

Last game i turned the sound off on Sam and Joe and tried to listen to theXM feed of Kenny and Dave. The radio feed was delayed by about 10 seconds so i had to suffer Joe. Dave’s better but honestly I’ve heard Stemkowski a couple times on the radio and he’s hilarious. Good entertainment value at least while we’re pulling our hair out over what’s going on on the ice.

by VegasRanger on Mar 6, 2010 5:20 AM EST reply actions

I tried the same thing once – but streaming ESPN radio off the link at the Rangers website. The audio being delayed/out of sync – which is made even worse due to the fact that I have DirecTV – was brain-pain inducing.

I think the next time I’m just going to mute all audio – maybe put some ZZTop or Chickenfoot or Satriani on as background….

If you have TiVo or a DVR, you can pause the feed until it sync’s with the radio version.

He's Gotta Go

I haven’t heard of one person who knows anything about the Rangers support this guy. Ship him outta here. Poor Sam seems perturbed during the broadcasts. One game I heard him ask Joe why he keeps questioning his calls on the air. That said, Sam’s eyes aren’t as good as they once were and he doesn’t see the deflections or bounces like he used to. I think its time to retire Sam’s jersey and fire Joe with Sather.

BRING BACK JD!!!!!!!!!

I love Sam, but Joe needs to go. Too much sucking off of the other teams. JD was the best. Bring him back from STL, they don’t need him. We do.

Joe must go…..anyone know where Phil Esposito is?
The best Ranger booth combo ever has to be Jim Gordon and Bill Cahdwick……The Big Whistle loved to get hammered by the end of some games……but he had a true passin for the game…..and they were NEVER politically correct…….
Now, all booth personalities have to make sure they do not talk bad about the NHL in any way, which is pathetic and cheapens the game.

mic

I don’t care for Giannone either. He overuses the phrase mindset way too much. But please don’t let Mic start interviewing players. He was horrible in Vancouver and while he is trying be polite, he needed to quit thanking players for their time after the interview. The point about maloney’s is right on. He was great paired with sam just before the olympics.

whats so bad about saying thanks? The player doesnt have to do it, he has some kinda important things to do during the intermission.

I MISS JD!!!!!

Having Dave up there is a GREAT idea!!!,,one thing I’ve always been proud of is how Sam (and JD) were always unbias, and showed respect to the visiting teams, something I can NEVER hear in the rest of the leagues announcers.Joe has ruined that,in the reverse. He’s bland and about as fake as they come,at least with Sam you can tell when he holds back his personal views out of professionalism, but he’s never been an ass kisser or a sell out employee of the nhl…like joe.Great post +1.

Never saw the FSN Pittsburgh Coverage

Good old Bob Errey. I know he he a homer for the Penguins games & I have to say he is fair as well, but now that I see it from their angles. YOU TOOK A DIVE SIDNEY! It’s interference, but it’s not like Staal really crossed checked him that hard. That should’ve been 2 for unsportsmanlike & 2 for cross checking Hank.

by NYR #35 Richter on Mar 11, 2010 2:47 AM EST reply actions

wow

does anybody remember jd in the early 00s being hammered by fans for supporting the company line, spouting out nonsense about how messier has ‘earned his ice time’, and rookies needed to do that to prove they should take ice time away from mess?

jd seemed better in his last year in the booth, but everybody i know hated listening to him from say 2000-2004 and his ‘lundmark/malhotra needs to earn ice time’ comments…granted jamie wasn’t much of a player, but when he looked the other way every time messier gave up the puck and didn’t back check only to rip a kid for the same thing…..blech

i’d rather have seen jd take over as president of hockey operations after neil smith was fired and hire his own gm to spare us the sather decade

This from a man who thinks the plural of goose is sheep.
