So yeah, the NHL Draft Lottery is tonight
Unfortunately, or Fortunately, depending on your point of view, we as Ranger fans are forced to shift our focus to the off-season, and the first order of business for those of use whose summer has arrived is the NHL Draft Lottery, which takes place tonight. We will have an open thread going tonight for the lottery, I'm sure many of us will be tuned in.
Here is the official release from the NHL:
The NHL will host the 2010 LG NHL Draft Lottery at 8 p.m. on April 13 to set the order of selection for June's Entry Draft. The program will be televised on Versus and TSN, and streamed live on NHL.com.
The Edmonton Oilers, who finished with the fewest points in the League this season, have the best chance of winning the No. 1 pick. Since teams can move up a maximum of five spots, the only teams with a chance at gaining the top choice are the Oilers, Boston Bruins (who have Toronto's pick), Florida Panthers, Columbus Blue Jackets and New York Islanders.
The Oilers go into Tuesday's drawing with a 25 percent chance of winning the Lottery. And if a team outside the bottom five in the standings wins the Lottery, the Oilers will get the top choice, improving their odds to 48.2 percent.
The team with the fewest points in the League has won the Draft Lottery the last two years. League rules also dictate that no team can move backward more than one spot, so the Oilers will have at least the first or second pick.
Whoever wins the first choice will get to choose between NHL Central Scouting's two top-rated North American skaters, Plymouth Whalers center Tyler Seguin and Windsor Spitfires left wing Taylor Hall.
After Edmonton, the team with the next-best chance of winning the Lottery is the Bruins, who gained the Maple Leafs' pick in the Phil Kessel trade, at 18.8 percent. The Panthers have a 14.2-percent chance, the Blue Jackets a 10.7-percent chance and the Islanders an 8.1-percent chance.

If lightning strikes in our favor, and we moved up to 5 (I know, I’m dreaming), who would you pick? (I realize that involves guesswork on who would be chosen 1-4).
we could only move to 6.
At 6 you look at Nino, Gormley, Gubrandson, Connolly.
At 10 Nino, Johansen and Forbort are my top 3 hopefuls. Ironically enough TSN came out where their final rankings and thy have Nino 7, Johansen 8, Forbort 10. Johansen went from 19 mid-season though i was talking about him for us the other day to 8th now, definitely on the rise, just our luck ;-).

forbort also moved up from 18 to 10 in TSN rankings from midseason to now.

Between Nino, Johansen and Forbort, who is the closest to NHL ready? (I think I read somewhere Nino’s only 17).
Nino turns 18 in Sept
Johansen (Nino’s center) turns 18 July
Forbort turned 18 in march.

I hope we pick either Johansen (who made a big jump up from midseason rankings to final rankings) or Nino.
If we move up…..Emerson Etem, but honestly if we do move up we will probably be picking a d-man…not sure if I like that. We need forwards more.
we certainly dont have to move up to get Etem.

that’s the csb rankings. he is 8 in NA but they also have connolly ahead of gubrandson, fowler and gormley and dont see him going ahead of them. nino is also 12 in their rankings so, just not agreeing with those rankings, but that’s me.

i believe etem was low 20’s (22 or 23) in the ISS rankings last month. i think he has good scoring ability but i get nervous when i read about prospects who dont use their body at all which is the biggest criticism about him.
by Michael Gleich on Apr 13, 2010 2:04 PM EDT up reply actions
doesnt use the body at all?
I didnt know that. Well if that’s the case then I would probably stay away from him.
yea read some reports on him that he doesnt like to hit, but has hands to score.

Yeah I know. And its like GM’s pick in the order of the final rankings released by the nhl scouting. Teams have their own scouts who might have a different view. Good example of this would us picking Kredier a year ago…..
well that is why tsn is a pretty good resource as they had kreider 19 before the draft.

Don’t be surprised if nino goes in the top 5 he seems that with a years experience in the ahl he should be NHL ready next season after

maybe will win the lottery. and if not maybe well get extremely lucky and move to 5th. and if we dont win i rather columbus move up so boston doesnt get hall or seguin
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

Im confused…Jim says teams can move up a max of 5 spots, you say 4…which is it? Unless theres something about teams outside the bottom five not being able to move up? I have no idea but i hope we move up to at least 7 or 8 and not be stuck at 10.
Favre 4 Ever
I Believe In Chris Drury
2010 Blueshirt Banter NCAA Champion
it’s 4. also it is only a lottery for the winner so either we are 6, 10 or 11

Kabanov
apparently is still dropping. Booted from the U-18 Russian team for behavior issues… seems high maintenance; I know some people were high on him earlier in the year.
he wont go for at least 2 rounds now i would bet.
