Rangers News: Dubi Leading World Champs in Scoring
The United States hockey team may only be participating in the relegation rounds at this point of the tournament, but forward Brandon Dubinsky, who was named to the squad after his Rangers were eliminated from the playoff race in April, now leads the entire tourney in scoring with three goals and seven assists for a total of 10 points. The 24-year-old center has been placed in the middle of Islander Kyle Okposo and Senator Nick Foligno on the U.S.'s top offensive line. At first, they were a trio that was struggling to produce much, but as time has passed, they have shown improvement.
The more the merrier and for Dubinsky, there could not be anything better for him right now than to be participating in the World Championships in Germany and continue to play hockey even though his National Hockey League club has already been done for over a month now. For such a young player, it is crucial that Dubi has the opportunity to play in different environments, under different coaches, and with different players. Something like this gives him exactly that, and will be instrumental to his future development.
And now, not only is he participating, but he is dominating out on the ice. Considering there are players such as Matt Duchene, Alex Ovechkin, and Jaromir Jagr also playing for their respective countries, it speaks volumes that Brandon is leading them all in scoring. As we know, consistency has been a flaw in Dubinsky's game all throughout his career, but in this tournament, since he has started scoring, he has not shown signs of stopping.
Defenseman Matt Gilroy has also been having himself a solid tournament, scoring a hat trick on defense in Saturday's win over Kazakhstan. Marc Staal and Michael Del Zotto are also in on the fun, but with Team Canada, who seems to be struggling as of late with a loss to the Czech Republic earlier this afternoon.

I like that Dubi has scored a lot of points and the most out of anybody but lets be real here. He scored most if not all 10 points in the 3 regulation round games against Kazakhstan, France, and Italy. Not the most skilled of competition. But I do agree its good to get him some confidence under his belt and hopefully the experience of this tournament helps him along with all the other Rangers playing.
That is true, I am not going to deny that, but it is at least good to see him outperforming the rest of the Americans.

I really hope this whole article is meant to be sarcastic. Dubinsky didn’t record a point until the relegation round; that is not something I would be excited about. Against teams with actual talent (Ger, Den, Fin), Dubinsky’s line: 0 pts, -2.
No, he has not been going up against great talent, but like I said above, at least he is outperforming the rest of his American mates.
And for the record, no, the article is not sarcastic.

Practice?
Dubinsky has played 3 games against teams with barely any AHL quality players [if they have any at all]. This article is the equivalent of “Dubinsky had a good practice versus ECHL/junior hockey players today.” I agree it’s good to see him still trying and skating. But to make anything of it is a reach. Hopefully, he’s enjoying his European vacation.
And Gilroy?
Similarly, Gilroy has had an awful tournament against non-relegation opponents. And, like Del Zotto, has been the last defenseman off the bench for his team.
Seven of Dubi’s ten points came against Italy and Kazakhstan, two teams that won’t even be at the WC next season. I hope he enjoys his time on top of the list, because he’s going home, while the players behind him are still playing.
IMO, no one on Team USA should feel anything but embarrassed about what’s happened in Germany. To put forth the effort they did in the opening round after what the U18, U20 and Olympic teams have done this year is pathetic.
Dreadful, Dreadful USA Performance
Brian Burke and the rest of USA Hockey should be ashamed. I cannot recall when the USA has played so poorly in an international tournament. The USA did well in Vancouver because it chose excellent young players who played well as a team. The US squad in Germany was composed of third raters who did not play well as a team. Only one of the six games was against a quality opponent, Finland. There is something wrong when the USA loses to Denmark and Germany and barely beats Italy in a shootout. USA Hockey could have chosen a much better team. Only Jack Johnson was a member of our silver medal squad in Vancouver. Dubi and Gilroy are not yet good enough to represent the USA. Very few of the squad in Germany deserved to be on the team. I hope that they are proud of their performance.
