NHL News: Blackhawks Two Wins From Stanley, Edge Flyers 2-1
After the frantic, all-star game like pace of Saturday night's 6-5 Game 1 win by the Blackhawks, a much tighter tilt tonight by both teams.
Marian Hossa put the Hawks ahead late in the second period, and Ben Eager notched the game-winner just 28 seconds later as the Chicago Blackhawks held on to defeat the Flyers 2-1 in Game Two of the Stanley Cup Finals to send the series to Philadelphia with the Hawks just two wins from their first Stanley Cup Championship since 1961.
After giving up five goals in the first game, Antti Niemi was stellar, and especially in the third period against a relentless Flyers attack. Philadelphia outshot Chicago 16-4 in the final 20 minutes.
Simon Gagne scored a power play goal as the penalty was expiring to bring the Flyers to within one, but Hawks goalkeeper Antti Niemi was able to hold off the Flyers, making 32 saves in all.
Flyers goaltender Michael Leighton was also much sharper after being pulled in Game One, making 24 saves, but ultimately those 28 seconds in the middle period did him and the Flyers in.
Much more physical game than the first, although that was to be expected with Dan Carcillo back in the lineup for Philly after sitting out the opener.

What’s amazing is he never really had Kopetcky lined-up either. From the very beginning he took a weird angle, even if Carter wasn’t there, it would have been difficult to get a clean shot.
Hopefully, this pops the media’s fascination with Carcillo. He got way too much attention for what he actually brings to the game.

Hawks
The Hawks have this series tied up already. They simply have too much depth than the Flyers and have the more consistent goaltending. Hawks in 5.
For me personally, its beyond this (exciting) series that it gets really interesting. Who will be the Hawks cap casualties in the summer and will the Rangers make a play? There are several players in Chicago that could help the Rangers next year that may be available.

Honestly, I simply cannot believe people are still making this claim. The Flyers controlled the even-strength play; in fact, they were dominant at times. I hate the Flyers, but now that they are healthy, they have every bit as much depth as Chicago (especially with Kane invisible so far).
yes but
Do you really think Philly will win 4 of 5 from the Hawks? I seriously doubt it. The Hawks haven’t played their best game yet.
Of course i said the same thing last year when Pitt was down 2-0 to detroit. Philly has to win both games at home. Then they have a shot.

It’s been fairly even through 2 games at ES really.
What’s really interesting is how Toews is getting destroyed through 2 games.

I actually picked Chicago to win in 4.
I just get annoyed seeing Blackhawk fans act like they are dominating. The series has been very close and could easily be 2-0 in favor of the flyers.
@RangerSmurf, I haven’t seen the h2h numbers, but I imagine Pronger has a lot to do with it. Kane’s been worse than Toews IMO, at least Toews can win some face-offs.

I just meant in scoring chances, obviously Toews’ faceoffs have helped.
I only looked at G2 so far, and Pronger was on ice for alot of Toews chances, both for and against.
And you shouldn’t get annoyed or be surprised about a fan base describing what happened strictly to the final outcomes…it happens across the board, including here.
It’s still not nearly as bad as the MTL fanbase coming up with 400 unsubstantiated claims of why they won their series that didn’t equal “we got dominated and incredibly lucky with our goaltending.”
