Rangers News: Rangers Trade Bobby Sanguinetti

As I think we all expected, Bobby Sanguinetti's days as a Ranger are over. We've been saying all season the organization had its fill of him.

Sanguinetti was traded to Carolina for draft picks, more later.

Did he ever get a fair shake? For some reason it seems like the organization was down on him, but I never got why.

hey man whats wrong with being from Jersey?? Im from Jersey lol

But seriously, I feel like Bobby was never given a fair opportunity with the Rangers. Kinda sad to see him go, but we do have MDZ

cause he never played well in the ahl……

Oh man, it finally happened

"Malik now." "6 foot 6, 238, not a noted goal scorer but he's gonna give it a shot here." "Malik has not scored this year. In on Kolzig, faked it....SCORES"

by Calm Down on Jun 26, 2010 3:05 PM EDT reply actions

certainly saw this move coming but i thought it would be part of a larger package for an established player- not just later rd picks in the draft.

6th this year, 2nd next year it’s being said. That’s not bad, considering.

I don’t get it… They developed an NHL-ready player for another team, and in return received picks for players that won’t pan out for what you’d have to assume is at least 3 more years.

I could see the redundancy with Sanguinetti, Gilroy, and Del Zotto… but why not trade Gilroy, who has one year left on his contract, and who I would guess wouldn’t want to stay with the Rangers given the way Tortorella handled him this past year.

by Hoggo on Jun 26, 2010 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions

or more importantly, instead of more draft picks why not trade in package for legit NHL prospect?
Isn’t that what prospects are used for?
Use the surplus to help acquire something tangible

by Ahmad Bradshaw on Jun 26, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

but why not trade Gilroy

b/c someone has to want Gilroy

by NTB on Jun 26, 2010 5:12 PM EDT up reply actions

This is as good as announcing

that McDonagh is going to be signed on Thursday.

The organization made the determination that with McD., DelZotto, Gilroy they really don’t have any use for another offensive defenseman at the NHL level.

I wish Sangs the best and hope he makes it to the NHL.

by dbmaven on Jun 26, 2010 3:32 PM EDT reply actions

that would be great news

by Ahmad Bradshaw on Jun 26, 2010 3:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Folks – please read CAREFULLY.

I said it’s as “good as announcing”.

There’s been rumors for weeks.

I don’t think they’d have traded Sangs for picks unless it’s (McDonagh) going to happen.

Purely speculation on my part – but it would appear reasonable based on what’s known.

by dbmaven on Jun 26, 2010 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Fair to say this also means Potter is not re-signing, and that Sauer will be dealt?

dont ever assume that sather is using ‘rationale’ thinking when operating during the offseason

Be nice if it was "with the signing of McDonagh, we’re trading Rozsival for Huselius and shipping Redden to the KHL

Carolina already made its 6th round pick maybe its a 7th.

by Kmp on Jun 26, 2010 4:15 PM EDT reply actions

I was looking at the 167th pick, guess it was the one they used to get Fasth.
Here is what Mcilrath did to Carolina 6th pick.

by MattPwrcf1 on Jun 26, 2010 4:23 PM EDT reply actions

i think hes gonna be a star, and if so, islanders may be loaded pretty soon. Tons of young talent

by Ahmad Bradshaw on Jun 26, 2010 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

i said it in the other post

look, bobby did it to himself, he could’ve done well for himself last year but he came to camp completely out of shape, couldn’t finish torts’ training regimen (he actualy collapsed midway through, remember) and he didn’t grow defensively. it’s sad that the former 1st rounder goes down like this for us, but he bummed himself down the drain.

I read (here) that we get the Capitals second rounder that Carolina had previously acquired. This obviously makes that pick slightly less valuable, unless Carolina can somehow put together a better regular season than the Caps.

Can’t say I didn’t expect this to happen eventually. At least we got something back for him.

This trade is just lame

i don’t mind them trading him that much i guess, i just wish it was either for another prospect, or as incentive to move one of the three contracts that are killing this team. I guess this means they are not going to move them, ‘cuz why would they give sangs for this litte return and then give up even more prospects just to move a bad contract. I thought that Drury or Rozi plus Sangs could have enticed Edmonton now that Renney is the coach. Not that I want any of their problems in return, but a pick would’ve been fine to dump especially Drury’s salary.

by Rags to riches? on Jun 27, 2010 12:37 AM EDT reply actions

Drury No Movement Clause and the Organization LOVES him, I like him but not for the salary lol. But yes I would have thought they would use Sangs as a sweetener to deal a Rozi or Redden(wishful thinking)

by CrazyRangerFan on Jun 27, 2010 1:41 AM EDT up reply actions

i don't deny that but

whether they love him or not, they only have about 14 million to sign: Staal, Girardi, a legit back-up goalie, and i think 5 forwards. As far as Drury goes, I was thinking he might be willing to waive his clause to get out of New York and away from the pressure. Since realistically Edmonton fans can’t expect any chance at the playoffs this year, he might get more slack there. We don’t care about the reality of our team sucking, we always are a little surprised when they fail to make the playoffs, and we never take it well. Plus I figured he’d rather play for Renney than Torts. But that being said, I didn’t expect him, or the other two to get traded, it was just a hope. That hope is diminishing more and more each day.

by Rags to riches? on Jun 27, 2010 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions

We all knew this was coming probably even without drafting a 1st round 2. I agree with the main sentiment that i would have rather gotten a prospect than a pick because we spent the years developing him and in all likelihood it will take 3 years to develop the pick and that clock wont even start for another year. If we could have gotten a Drayson Bowman or Zac Dalpe from Carolina instead of the pick as solid forward prospects we could start or should i say continuing developing right now the value would have been much greater.

by mleetch352 on Jun 27, 2010 1:45 AM EDT reply actions

This is why the Rangers are who they are.........up until the last few years....horrible drafting,

really, really bad FA signings, poor prospect development, and the trading away of those poor draft picks has lead to the horrible product on the ice. All under the watchful eye of Mr. Glen Sather. I mean, please tell me another organization…ANYWHERE that would keep someone at the helm with such a unproductive<—-(and thats being very kind) track record? Why are the Rangers sooooooooo inept from top to bottom? And It’s inevideble that the Isles will pass the rangers making us the bottom dwellers of the Atlantic division for years to come………….imagine that one!!

by giantsNYrangers on Jun 27, 2010 9:17 AM EDT up reply actions

Some good quotes from Carolina about the trade

“He’ll definitely be able to compete for a job this year,” Rutherford said of Sanguinetti. “It will be a matter of what everybody else does also. But he has a couple years of pro under his belt now, and it’s along the lines of what I talk about: these defensemen get taken in the first round and end up getting with their second team and they start to mature a little bit more. We have several first round picks on defense that other teams took. [Tim] Gleason was one, [Joni] Pitkanen is another, [Anton] Babchuk is another, and now Sanguenetti. We’re kind of living off other people’s draft and them getting their development starting and us jumping in and still getting them at young ages.”

I wish Bobby the best. I would have liked to see him in a Ranger uniform, but alas it was not meant to be. Just have to make use of the 2nd round pick next year.

by NTB on Jun 27, 2010 11:57 AM EDT reply actions

All Carolina does is take other teams’ developed defensemen. Not a bad strategy. The more I think about this trade though, the less sense it makes.

This was an odd weekend for Rangers fans. Even I can’t defend Sather on this one…

by Hoggo on Jun 27, 2010 5:51 PM EDT up reply actions

ok what was the point of ur posting here?

are you trying to piss off ranger fans? another 1st rounder traded and this is what u post? About Carolina benefiting off of us? i dont get it.

by giantsNYrangers on Jun 27, 2010 2:23 PM EDT reply actions

Some people actually enjoy reading thing posted by both teams involved in a sporting event. Also, Carolina has yet to benefit, as Sangs hasn’t done a thing.

by NTB on Jun 27, 2010 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Of course he hasn’t done a thing. But remember Sather’s “McIlrath’s going to be a beast at 22 comment”… McIlrath will essentially be on the same plan that Sangs was. I feel like he’s going to have a strong year for the Hurricanes.
