Rangers News: Rangers Ink Martin Biron
The first signing of the day will be by our New York Rangers as goaltender Martin Biron has been locked up for 2 years at approximately $900,000 $875,000 per according to Andrew Gross. For the Rangers, that is a spectacular signing just because they acquired a capable goaltender for under one million per year. General manager Glen Sather got things started right from a Blueshirts perspective and I must admit that I am impressed by what Slats was able to pull off here.
Biron was paid $1.4 million last year by the Islanders, where he played in the shadow of Dwayne Roloson. Biron went 9-14-4 with a 3.27 GAA and .896 save percentage with the Isles but his time with the Philadelphia Flyers was when he shined in a starting role. As we know, he won't be starting in New York, but will be a solid backup to Henrik Lundqvist.

Can't complain on that signing either
if he is content to play 20 games a year, and take that money, I say it is a great job by sather. Plus he won’t have to relocate, which I think is why he came cheap.
Good move, I like it. I would have preferred Hedberg, but I am fine with this

I understand the love for Hedberg since he just owned us..but Biron’s clearly the better goalie over their careers, at 875k, it’s thievery.

Rangers made the Stepan signing official, we knew this was coming so I won’t post as a story:
New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Derek Stepan.
Derek Stepan was Team USA’s leading scorer in its run to the 2010 World Junior gold medal and was the first Rangers prospect to lead the entire tournament in scoring since Doug Weight in 1991.
Stepan, 20, served as Captain of Team USA at the 2010 World Junior Championship, leading the United States to just their second Gold Medal (2004) in the elite tournament. He led all skaters in assists and points en route to being named to the tournament All-Star Team, as selected by the media. Stepan finished the tournament with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points in seven games.

This is a good move however
The need to sign Staal is a must along with Jody Shelly who rejected the 2yr 825K offer last night. I thinnk about this and look at how Reeden and Rozy have salaires of 5k per yr and 6.5 per yr and a shut down young d-man cannot be signed. Thye want to keep and build the core well how about signing Staal long-term. You want a strong chemisrty keep shelly and Prust and then give some roster spots to the kids coming. Time and time again champship teams are bult on home grown youth, chemisrty and everyone having the same vision within the organzation. I hope Torts and Messier are in Sather ear to keep the kids and the keep what was working at the end of the season “see the 4th line combo. Pray that sather does not kill us again. Awake Sather he is still sleeping since 84”
Twas a very smart signing. And Sather DIDN’T OVERPAY!!!!

at least this will end the backup merry-go-round
though I still think Chad Johnson (was that his name?) wasn’t given a fair shake.
"Fantasy, reality, science Fiction. Which is which? Who can tell?"
Chad Johnson was a rookie
and they want him to play ever day, not 15-20 games a year which is why he will play full time in Hartford. (unless an injury forces a call up) I am very happy to have him as a #3 option
two solid signings this morning from glen.. low risk too.
christensen will be a good filler for 1-2 years until some of our younger guys are ready.. its a good cheap signing..
and biron is a good solid backup.. at a cheap price as well.. very good signing..
johnson should be good but i rather him be playing every game in the minors than playing as a backup with the big club.. so far im impressed
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
marty marty marty .
out of all the signings sather made biron is far by the best one . the king needs rest down the stretch and biron is a very capable goalie good pick up sad to see auld leave i thought he was good also .
