NHL News: Mike Modano Will Sign With Detroit Red Wings
As has long been suspected, Mike Modano has decided to sign a one year deal with the Detroit Red Wings, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Modano, the top scoring American player in NHL history with 1,359 points and 557 goals will probably anchor the third line and will give the Wings three formidable scoring lines.
Anybody else see the irony that the Red Wings might have a better center for their third line than the Rangers will on their first line?

sad for me to see him not go out as a one organization player especially with the great ending he had in his last home game.
I was hoping he’d at least go to Minnesota if he kept playing.

Well he grew up a Red Wings fan, so this is kinda cool for him.

Mike Modano is a class act
A great career, great guy.
It’s too bad he didnt finish his career with one organization, but i see why he would want to play for the Red Wings. I think it’s wrong to be upset with him over that decision, I think he wanted to finish with the stars, but they weren’t having it.
Im sure i dont need to mention his finest moment at MSG (giving him the nickname stretcher)
agree
I don’t think anyone has the right to really criticize him for this. There’s no ‘one way’ a great career should look, or end. Its up to him… and he didn’t want the Stars deciding when he should retire. I respect him more for that. Because the Stars don’t want him anymore he’s supposed to hang ‘em up or else its a horrible end to a great career? I don’t think so.
Just an FYI, anyone who posts the words “first” on a thread will have their comment deleted.
