Rangers Notes: Updates from Scrimmage
Interesting tidbit from Andrew Gross on today's informal scrimmage regarding Michael Del Zotto:
Del Zotto was wearing a full, clear, plastic visor as a precaution after having nose surgery last week to correct a cartilage problem. In January, Del Zotto recalls lining a player up for a hit along the boards in front of the Rangers’ bench at Madison Square Garden, missing the check but hitting the opponent’s foot and going face-first into the dasher. Del Zotto didn’t think it was broken at the time, though it hurt. It wasn’t until he returned to New York and saw the Rangers’ training staff was the decision made to send him for a CT scan, after which surgery was recommended. The issue is that the cartilage in his nose was pushed to the right. The procedure re-aligned his cartilage properly and also shaved it down a bit.
It could be the nose was effected (or is it "affected"?, I never seem to get that right) by the stench that is Wade Redden?
Also, one other thing from Gross:
Tryouts Alexei Semenov and Ruslan Fedotenko have yet to make an appearance and it’s not clear whether they’ll be at any of the informal skates or just join the team Friday for the start of training camp.
Oh and in case you missed it, our biggest fan Ryan Lambert (he called us "idiots" about a month ago, but I couldn't find the link, we talked about it in the Fan Posts) said today that Ranger fans were "excited" about Garnet Exelby possibly signing with the Rangers. If Ryan had actually read the Fan Post to which he was referring, he probably would have noticed that the comments were hardly what I would refer to as "excited".
Finally, in case you hadn't heard, Rangers single game tickets will go on sale on September 23rd:
The New York Rangers announced today that tickets for the 2010-11 Rangers regular season home games will go on-sale on Thursday, Sept. 23rd, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Tickets will can be purchased on Ticketmaster via newyorkrangers.com, Ticketmaster charge-by-phone, 866-858-0008 and Ticketmaster outlets.
Fans will be limited to a maximum of four (4) tickets per game.

So excited and I just can't hide it
for a little competition for the 7th defenseman spot on the team. I didn’t know we had a biggest fan. I think we just like to debate and look at the upside of someone like Exelby… because… well anyone that is coming in that might wear a Rangers sweater instead of Redden is something to get excited about. Whether they are a quadrped, a corpse, or a player infamous for going for big hits and taking himself out of position.
I read that the scrimmage was physical. Avery took Del Zotto into the backboards and Dubinsky hit Zuccarello, have to admit I like the sound of that and I think it might be good to throw a few hits at the Frodo from Modo.
In Hank we trust.
Gotta break the Lilliputian in right?

I read his article on puck daddy
only cause I saw it was stirring stuff up on here. If I can get a few minutes to type, I’m looking forward to giving it the FJM treatment. For a guy who getting paid to write, his grammar sucks and style is even worse.

I'll point to the content of the article
or fanpost that he is citing “…GOOD LUCK EXELBY!!!” Which indicates ‘excitement’ over the possibility of Exelby being a Ranger. You can say that the comment section indicates displeasure, but once this was moved to the front page the article speaks for itself, and speaks for everyone here so I believe it is fair game for people outside the BSB community to assume that everyone is on board with this.
I disagree. This isn’t a cult, articles don’t speak for everyone here. My point is, he didn’t read the comments, he generalized. Like we loaded up the Banter Family Truckster and brought Exelby a cake and Hawaiian Punch.
If our articles and comments are fair game, so are his, no?

Right but what I’m saying is that when the article goes to the front page of the site, it speaks for the site by itself, most blogs don’t reference comments when doing a run down of things to read or articles to pay attention. Since the article speaks for the site and the site speaks for Rangers fans I think that is what he was getting at.
I am just confused by all these defensemen
Would I be wrong to assume that if Exelby and Semenov make the team that more then just Redden will be headed to the minors or even traded (Rozi )? Not likely on the trade I know but it just seems like something is going on here..
"Sorry bro, he Jason Bourned me"- Drama
Couple of opines
First off, bring on the hockey already. Baseball is lagging along, thank god football started. (Arizona 2-0) -
I am really forward to seeing full training camp and who makes the club. I really hope that both Stepan and Grachev make the team so we can bounce some guys who really don’t belong (Redden, Kennedy, Williams) – I feel that some of these “tweener” pros were brought in as insurance in case McDonough, Aasen, and Frolov fail to deliver.
I expect big things from two Rangers this season.
Evgeny Grachev – Grachev is due. I think whether it’s New York or Hartfod, Grachev will take a big step forward in 2010-11. The kid can play, and he’s already off to a good start at Traverse City.
Artem Anismov – “Arty” has proven himself to John Tortorella and the fans want him to get more time, he seemed to get better as the season went along, I expect more of that this year. I will go out on a limb and say that Anisimov will outplay several Rangers key forwards. The kid gives full energy at both ends of the ice.
Wild Card – I believe that the Rangers make the playoffs IF:
Hank is healthy for 60 starts.
Staal is re-signed, long term
Frolov OR Aasen produce secondary GOALS, not assists.
No water bottles are thrown at fans.

^
Key PLAYER
Glen Sather – could be his final year, he’s getting older and the team needs to produce good results. I think most Ranger fans will party if that happens, but at the same time, if the Rangers win, they are winning because of a commitment to young players, many of which were drafted by the current Rangers front office.
Dan Girardi – I hope Dan is ready to cement his role on this team. There are a nice crop of young guys just itching to take his spot. The Rangers will a very good hockey team Dan Girardi plays good enough to keep McDonough, Niemi, Sauer and Gilroy in the AHL.
But the majority of the comments do convey enthusiasm?
Uh Jim,
The majority of the comments contain enthusiasm for Exelby. Heck even your co-editor Joe Fortunato, sings his pleasure, " A few regulars here… (Myself included) have wanted to see the Rangers go after him."
There were also plenty of negative comments about him coming, and some indifference.

There’s a difference between mild enthusiasm and excitement. He also didn’t mention the variety in opinions.
