Alternate Jersey

This post is mildly random but the topic interests me

Apparently the Rangers will be releasing new Alternate Jerseys this year.  I don't know about everyone else, but I thought that the last ones were way too flashy. They looked more like cheerleader outfits than hockey uniforms.  This article describes what the new ones might look like: boop

It actually sounds alot lie the current one so I'm curious as to how they might differ.  I was hoping they'd copy Detroit's winter classic jersey, which behind the Blackhawks home jersey is my favorite hockey jersey. For some reason they've decided never to use it.

Looks like its just replacing "Rangers" with "New York", unless I'm missing some other details

I liked this old version of the third jersey, though, seemed like they only used the blue ones after a while, not sure why:

Ya I saw that one too. If they could replace the logo with our current one, it would be a great away jersey.

It is going to be the "New York" style logo

I think it’s kinda cool.

Booooooorinngggggg. Bring back the Liberty jerseys, navy or white, both looked really good. Third Jerseys used to mean a completely new jersey alternate to the one that is standard, nowadays in most cases its just flip a thing or two and boom lets sell it for $200.

Not really. Many alternates are throwbacks, so it seems like they aren’t much different. Most teams did pretty good jobs with their alternates.

The new Senators and Lightning jerseys (the ones that just say “Sens” and “Bolts” across the front) are the two worst jerseys in sports, hands down. Since when do journalistic nicknames get to actually appear on jerseys? If the Rangers are really going to go in that direction, I think that’s weak. Even though it’s much better than the Senators and Lightning because it would say “New York” (which is actually a part of our team name), it’s still lazy and and boring.

I don’t mind the Bolts jersey. Also, the Canucks fire jersey are the worst in sports.

NY Americans

The Liberty just screams “crappy late-90s Rangers/NHL” and the NEW YORK ones are just too similar. The century-old New York Americans jersey would be a cool retro 3rd string look if they wanna go REALLY old-school…

"Prucha has tons of heart, plays hard every shift, and is a fan favorite. Betts is one of the best penalty killers & shot blockers in the league, and he costs close to nothing. Orr destroys people and has greatly improved his skating ability. Let's get rid of all three. Brashear looks good." - Glen Sather

I'd just stick with the old Rangers' classic, thanks...

Give me Liberty...

I love the liberty jerseys, best alternate jersey ever put together (that wasn’t just a throw-back to an older jersey like the classic Buffalo logo).

Yeah the Liberty jerseys were one of the best alternate jerseys in the nhl. I think the were ahead of there time as well. The idea of “New York” replacing “Rangers” throwback or not is utterly boring. I would prefer something entirely new and original though,

I really don’t understand the love for the dark blue liberty jerseys. Maybe they remind people of the 15 round shootout? I’m a fan of more simple jerseys.

I don’t mind simple jerseys, but aside from “New York” there’s really nothing new, it’s boring as hell, the pajama jerseys look alot more simple to me anyways and no one seems to like them.

yeah this is pretty much all about money

If the rumored alternate is true but if its different then we will just have 2 wait and see.. If the rumor is true, I’ll be pissed

What Im getting from this is the jersey is going to be a dark navy blue with red and white lettering going down. That sounds pretty cool and id be alright with it although Id rather see the liberty again or something completely different.

by CrazyRangerFan on Sep 5, 2010 11:35 PM EDT reply actions

I’m interested to see what the finished product will look like, though I would love to see them bring back a jersey along the lines of the 1978 one.

how about the best of both worlds

sure we may be stealing from hartford but then again cant we call it a “promotion”

Just replace Hartford with New York and slap a 200 price tag on it

by Kevin Power on Sep 6, 2010 3:44 PM EDT reply actions

Is that chain mail all over the jersey? that thing looks awful.

no i think its just the render of the picture its the same jersey material as the edge jersey i couldn’t really find a great picture of it

by Kevin Power on Sep 6, 2010 5:36 PM EDT up reply actions

I think it’s part of the template or whatever where people can add stripes, numbers, names & things to their designs. Its the designated area or whatever

That would be sick, and except the wolf pack patch its our rangers crest. I would love that jersey, and yeah that chain mail lookin stuff is just part of the template.

by CrazyRangerFan on Sep 6, 2010 7:42 PM EDT up reply actions

A simple option would be a red jersey with “RANGERS” in blue lettering with blue pants. I do agree with “New York” being lazy and the “Liberty” logo being a painful reminder of the late 90’s and Eric Lindros. I also would not want to see the 70’s “NY Ranger Crest” on the jerseys either.

by DHanks30 on Sep 6, 2010 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

i cant see red being a good look for the rangers…it works for the red wings and the blackhawks because it is one of their primary colors whereas the red acts as an accent to the blue in the rangers color scheme

by Kevin Power on Sep 6, 2010 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions

We could make the entire thing dark blue with a few red areas.

Or replace the white background on the detroit WC jersey with blue and keep all the red.

it's simple really

especially if we’re talking about a potential winter classic throwback, go to the old-school original jersey from 1926-27 that was worn briefly in ‘91-92 during the NHL’s 75th anniversary

or else use the jersey from the 1940s with RANGERS spelled out horizontally across with the number underneath on the front:

I am personally placing a hundred-dollar bounty on the head of Tim McCracken. He's the head coach and chief punk on that Syracuse team.

by joereiter on Sep 6, 2010 10:13 PM EDT reply actions

actually

i’m a goof, the one from 91-92 was actually a later 30s style, the original had the RANGERS font in all white:

I am personally placing a hundred-dollar bounty on the head of Tim McCracken. He's the head coach and chief punk on that Syracuse team.

by joereiter on Sep 6, 2010 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

either way i don't ever want to see the liberty jersey again

….in either blue or white, too much association with the failures of the 90s/early 2000s in my opinion

i’d rather see the 70s pajama crest jersey make a comeback before that one

the NEW YORK diagonal is okay, i guess, considering it’s from my youth experience, but being a fan of the old-school i’d really rather see something from the 20s-40s era

I am personally placing a hundred-dollar bounty on the head of Tim McCracken. He's the head coach and chief punk on that Syracuse team.

how about these:

I’d love to see us wearing those with the Rangers logo instead.

Replace the ‘New York’ with Rangers going across the chest, I like the vintage washed-out color look. But that is just me. It also could be pretty lame to fabricate a vintage jersey look when the Rangers have so much history and their jersey is pretty much the same as what it was from the very beginning.

by Dig Deep on Sep 7, 2010 9:09 AM EDT reply actions

The point of an alternate jersey is to have an “alternate” jersey. If it’s the exact same as the one we wear every day, it’s not a real alternate jersey. I actually like this faded red one alot. I think we’d have to fit some blue in there as well to really make it a rangers jersey.

I was referring to a lot of teams going the ‘vintage’ look with their alternate jerseys. I don’t think the Rangers should necessarily do that, and if they do I would want it to be significantly different from the current sweater.

by Dig Deep on Sep 7, 2010 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Lol. Vintage would basically be a copy of what we have now. I want something pretty different.

call me a sucker for the old classics for most teams..especially the ones I root for.
