New York Rangers News: Callahan Fine, Expected To Play Saturday; Line Changes
News spread earlier that Ryan Callahan left practice early, for an undisclosed reason. While we all were expecting the worst, it was nothing to get nervous about. John Tortorella met with the media following practice, and stated that Callahan was just getting his rest today.
Everyone can exhale, it's nothing serious, as it was speculated before. Callahan is expected to be in the line-up on Saturday, on a line with Brandon Dubinsky, and Artem Anisimov. However, there was speculation that Dubinsky will play on the top line Saturday, but it looks as if Torts changed it up already.
Derek Stepan was on the left wing today at practice, which may foreshadow the lines for Saturday. But we'll have to wait and see. After practice, Stepan stated that he was not sure if he will start on the top line Saturday, but will be excited if he gets the shot.
That is all we have for now, anything else that comes out, you will be the first to hear.

All right people
you can exhale now…everything is fine with the captain. Now go about worrying about Marc Staal and everything else that a paranoid Ranger fan has to worry about

Love Stepan on the First Line
Call me an optimist but I think a line of Step-Rich-Gabby could be extremely lethal. If step is put on that line he doesn’t have to worry about faceoffs anymore and can concentrate more on goal scoring and being the playmaker he is.
I know we all wish that Wolski could fill that position but the reality is that he probably would end up underperforming there and Step would be wasted on the third line. Stick WW on the third line and let him prove himself and earn that spot on the top line.
With the great vision Step has along with the unbelievable vision richards has there is no reason for Gabby not to have 7-10 shots per game. These three will be setting each other up all game and should put up a good number of points in my opinion. I’m really excited to see what this line could do and I hope torts puts Step there for more than one game.
Gabby and br are going to play great no matter who they play with and for steps who is so young to play with these amazing players can be nothing but awesome for his growth… and for the dubi-arty-cally line we saw what they could do last year and its going to be even better this year since they are still growing themselves let’s go Rangers!

I agree with this whole heartedly
i just hope Stepan can get a little more physical playing on this line with Gabby and BR.
"Lopez wants it away, and it's hit deep to left center, Andruw Jones on the run, this one has a chance... home run!, Mike Piazza!, and the Mets lead 3 to 2!"
I like Step on the Top line and I really thought there was no use for him to play with someone like rupp. 4th line is looking like EC MZA and Rupp. That’s not good but hopefully we see Hagelin/Bourque on that line in a couple months or so.

The problem with EC mza and rupp on the fourth is you need more size and physical play which neither mza or EC really show

Regarding EC/Rupp/Zucc..
Doubt they would see ice together much. The propsed lines give Torts three balanced lines to roll out.

Fuck EC
Replace him with Avery and that 4th line gets a tad better.
Proudly suffering as a Ranger fan.
Agreed, why is this guy dressing for games?
Torts said they had better players than Avery….EC is clearly not one of them. He brings nothing to the team and didn’t even hit the net in the shootout, the only thing he might excel at.
Absolute Worst Ranger Fan!!!!!!....yet incredibly realistic and usually correct.
Agreed.
"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Christ. let it go! Avery is toxic and he is gone for good! Do we have to bring up his name in every fucking thread? He and EC are equals in their inconsistency. How about instead of suggesting we call up the Plague, we call up a young guy like Bourque or Hagelin, until WW is back? 4-5 games on the 4th line certainly would not stunt anyones growth and would give them some big game experience.
I think you’re the one that needs to let your anger go.
You just called the man a toxic and a plague. Wow.

I agree with BigB. Avery is gone, move on.

Really, that gets a wow? :P I am being dramatic and I actually do not think Avery is a plague, but I do think he has no place on this team any more and I am sick of so many people bringing it up again and again.
That’s fair enough. It was just odd to me that you appeared so angry over it.
I’m not saying it is or isn’t time to move on. I’m just saying that to call the guy a plague is a bit extreme.

You don’t want Bourque or Hagelin on the 4th line, they won’t do much in their <10 min of ice time. And Avery clearly brings something to the table over EC. At least Avery can forecheck decently or lay a hit on someone.

leathal top line
Love the idea of Stepan on the top line and it keeps dubi, calli and artie together. Can’t wait for Saturday.

It also lets us keep Feds Boyle Prust together. With those two strong defensive lines, Richards’ line can be given easier competition if Torts so chooses.
All three of those lines can play for 18 minutes and I’ll have no complaints. I wish instead of Rupp we brought in Prospal.
If that were the case we would have Dubi, Cally, AA, Boyle, Prust, and Feds on the solid defensive gritty lines and Richards, Gaborik, Stepan, Wolski Prospal, and Zucs on the more offensively skilled lines. It would work much better IMO.

Agree with this. Wish we did keep Prospal. Although a Gamble with injuries, he is still putting up numbers so far.
