New York Rangers Prospects: J.T. Miller And Carl Hagelin Continue To Impress, Christian Thomas Back On Track

NEWARK, NJ - SEPTEMBER 23: J.T. Miller #47 of the New York Rangers skates against the New Jersey Devils during a rookie game at the Prudential Center on September 23, 2011 in Newark, New Jersey. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

The New York Rangers' first-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, J.T. Miller, is making the most of his opportunities with the Plymoth Whalers of the OHL. Miller scored two goals in an overtime loss Saturday night, raising his season total to four goals and five assists for nine points in nine games.

Miller currently is tied for the team-lead with nine points, and has accumulated 10 penalty minutes thus far this season. I'll give you one guess as to how they came about.

More after the jump.

Star-divide

After a very slow start to the season, Christian Thomas has rebounded nicely for the Oshawa Generals. After going pointless in his first three games, Thomas has three goals and three assists in his last six games.

There was probably a transition period for Thomas after he want sent down from the Rangers training camp. Regardless, this extra year in the OHL should be some vital seasoning for the young sniper, something that should help him make a push for next season.

Carl Hagelin is another Rangers' prospect who has started to find his game. Hagelin scored two goals for the Connecticut Whale in an overtime loss Saturday night.Hagelin admitted to Bruce Berlet that he's starting to get used to the AHL game.

"I'm starting to get used to the league more and more, so I'm getting into a rhythm and feeling the way I should feel," said Hagelin, who has three goals in the last two games. "My legs have been a bit sluggish the other games, but tonight the jump as there and it's pretty easy playing with Newbury and Deveaux. They make good plays and are strong on the puck, so they just want me to stay on the wing and try to create chances from there."

Just something to brighten up your day. Thoughts on this guys?

summer classes

Thought I remember reading he’s taking summer classes to finish this yr, because he wants to have a college degree. He also said he wanted to make a difference immediately when he makes the team, can’t be upset with that thinking. Excited to see him in traverse city next yr. More excited to have some scorers in the lineup, would be a nice change to the grinder we have right now.

Since he’s ineligible for the WJC this year (he’s 20) he’ll probably take more courses in the winter so he gets his degree faster and turns pro with that degree which is a very admirable move on his part…not worried about his development at all

impressive

I’ve had a thing for this guy since we drafted him. Super pumped for the future. Kreider, Hagelin, Thomas are all scorers, which we desperately need to.infuse into our lineup. I know we have guys like Bourque and Miller but the scorers are what we lack. Dare I say, too much jam!

BC Student Here

I have to say he has looked explosive. Denver had a man on him basically the entire game, so it wasn’t surprising to see him get held off the score sheet.

PS: I go to every single home game (plus the Beanpot and Hockey East tournaments) so I’ll be throwing my two cents in every now and then!

oh awesome

Yeah I caught the Denver game on TV and was impressed with how he could shrug off two denver defenders that pinned him against the boards…kid is ridiculously strong both on and off the puck

I’ve met him a few times around campus and we’re about the same height but he is massive. Definitely won’t have to worry about his size haha

he’s 6’3 225…he’s gonna be a force around the net and getting the puck to Gaby and Richards

He’s an underrated passer too. As soon as he gets on the ice with more NHL caliber players he’ll rack up points. He’s no slouch in his own zone either. Hopefully, he keeps his game consistent this year.

please do!

Also, wondering of we can list any channels that might be showing games that our prospects are involved in. would love to continue to watch them.

The games with the little TV symbol next to them will be on TV. Most games will be on CBS Sports Network. I believe NESN carries the Beanpot.

Lindberg with 3 points in 11 games.

Cooled down after a hot preseason. I think he got injured at some point, hopefully it isn’t hindering him.

didnt know miller was a fighter, good to know i guess. I like skill guys who can drop the gloves (iginla, dubi, shanahan, guerin etc)

by I.Am.Spartacus on Oct 17, 2011 1:18 AM EDT reply actions

Most two way forwards and power forwards are guys who will drop the gloves. All those guys would qualify as one or the other in my book.

by EricBrat20 on Oct 17, 2011 1:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Don’t forget Fogarty. Only 18 and he’s over 6" and over 200 lbs, lol. He has 5G and 2A in like 5 games so far. This guy can potentially be the big, scoring power forward we have been looking for since Graves and Jagr. This guy is worth watching and monitoring.

by Richter1994 on Oct 17, 2011 6:40 AM EDT reply actions

actually I think lower. I think there is an under 18 junior league that he is in (he was 17 when he entered this season). I just don’t remember it off the top of my head. but reading he’s doing great. Jess Rubinstein over at Prospect Park is a great read to keep up on prospects.

by Richter1994 on Oct 17, 2011 11:44 AM EDT up reply actions

He’s in the BCHL, which is basically a CHL juniors league. He has 7 points in 9 games, which is 7th on his team in scoring

He’s on the best team in the league, one that averages nearly 6 goals per game so far.

My younger brother’s a ginger. My father’s younger brother’s a ginger. Clearly, I know the dangers, and that’s also why I fear the ever-so-slightly younger of the two may be. Too early to tell for sure.
