New York Rangers Prospects: So That Jesper Fasth Kid ... He's Really Good Too
While we continue to look for bright spots as the New York Rangers remain winless so far this season, I realized I accidentally omitted Jesper Fasth from yesterday's prospects post.
Fasth was the Rangers' sixth round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and is quickly becoming one of the biggest up-and-coming players within the Rangers farm system. Fasth already has four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 11 games for HV71 Jonkoping of the SEL. That's even more impressive when you realize that Fasth has put up a point-per-game as a 20-year old in a league of men.
Fasth is already inching towards career numbers in the SEL, the young forward posted 16 points in 36 games last year, and is on pace to crush that record.
While Fasth might be flying a little under the radar with names like Ryan Bourque, Christian Thomas, Chris Kreider and Carl Hagelin taking the spotlight, Fasth has been tearing it up overseas.
Hopefully we see more of this from him.

You may wish to change that, although it is pretty funny.

A few thoughts as procrastinate at work and wait for tomorrow
with highly touted and skillful draft picks like Kreider, Thomas, Fasth and hagelin in the mix, we are about to see a major turnover in our roster—my thoughts are we may see guys like christensen (obviously) zuccarello, prust, boyle, and even Dubi part ways fairly soon to clear a path for these guys—top six will probably include kreider and thomas, possibly fasth, JT Miller and hagelin when our prospys gel, which begs the question:
why the HELL did we sign Rupp? It’s like we always have to have one annoying contract on the books at all times.
Also, I’m just hoping we don’t become the Devils of last season—after signing a big free agent and having a lot of hype before the season, injuries and sloppy play knock us out of the playoff picture early<—negative nancy post (whatever i’m usually positive)
Finally, I do foresee a rash of moves between connecticut and NYR—look for avery, zucc, rupp, wolski, christensen to move up and down, especially if we try to work a trade for a Dman to clear salary
Rupp has a purpose, give it time.
Rangers weren’t bidding against themselves to get him. If needed he could be moved down the road.

he may have a purpose this year and next
but isn’t signed for like four? i just see him being totally left out
3 years. If we get overloaded with talent we could move him to the AHL no problem. We hope that’s the case.

yeah that's what i see happening
which means it was still a waste because it was an NHL contract—even if these guys don’t all become all-stars, they will still be pushed heavily on the roster because they are high draft picks.
dubi
y in hell would dubi not be on this team he has lead our team in points last year and because he hasnt recorded a point this year in 3 games ur writing him off. that is prob the dumbest thing i ever read. him and calli both are the central core of this team. he will pick it up and become the dubi we know he will be but for cryin out loud dude to say hes gone for these kids is hayness
two things
1) the Reply button is your friend
2) He’s not saying that he wants to trade Dubi right now…he’s saying that soon the Rangers may have to make a roster overhall to fit in all of these top 6 level talent that we have in the pipeline. Yes, Dubi has been good for us now, but he can be outclassed by Thomas, Kreider, Fasth etc. down the line in a year or two

I wouldn’t put much weight in that happening. Sure, those guys have the chance to be good, but right now Dubi is good.
He’s a 50-60 point guy who is tremendous defensively.

yeah I know
I’m just saying that there is a chance for a situation like this happening, most likely it’ll be the prospects being turned around (not Thomas, Kredier, etc.) but the prospects who really don’t have a place on the team

If we come to a point where we have six forwards better than Dubi and he’s pushed out because of it, Ill shit my pants and jump for joy :)

how could that happen now or in the future. hes been the heart and soul of this team and plays for 60 minutes a night. all im sayin is if this team gets rid of its identity then where back to square one. what if these top 9 players dont pan out and we get rid of dubi. then were screwed
by the time
we even think about saying goodbye to dubinsky our identify should have changed. If were infusing scorers and dropping some grinders well be more of a finesse team with grit and guys that go hard.. nothing wrong with that. It would be ideal for us to have this situation, not a problem.

http://www.plymouthwhalers.com/video/index/id/c8df2a9a0e3b0ef9b4af3f4afa3bd282 this is like 9 minutes long but shows Miller scoring on an absolutely perfect wrist shot and in front of the net on a rebound. it also shows projected #1 pick Nail Yakupov playing for Sarnia. don’t let the crowd fool you, this is a Plymouth Whalers game not an Isles’ game when they don’t play the Rangers. Sorry, couldn’t resist, lol.
Didn't we say stuff like this about MZA?
Before we make this guy a top 6 and Dubi’s replacement shouldn’t we see if he can even make it in North America? MZA tore up the SEL and now he’s a yoyo between NY and CT.
Corey Pronman says,
Jesper Fasth, Right Wing, New York Rangers (HV71-SEL): Fasth has gotten off to a tremendous start over in Sweden, and he’s currently fourth in SEL scoring as of this writing. While it is still early on and a small sample, I talked to one NHL executive who has watched Fasth who said, “I originally thought he was just going to be a defensive type of player, but now I think he has a chance to be a second line forward.” He’s a plus skater with an above-average shot, a great work ethic and he’s starting to show average prowess and sense with the puck. While the offensive skills outside the skating aren’t overwhelming, the package in itself is enough to possibly project as a scoring forward in the league.
