Breaking News: Christian Thomas Suspended For Ten Games
The Ontario Hockey League released a statement, noting that Christian Thomas has been suspended for ten games. Thomas was assessed a five minute major, and a game misconduct on the play. Looking at the video, it did not look like there was any intent to injure.
Thomas was on his back in front of the crease, and swung around, which resulted in his stick hitting the opposing player in the face. There was also no serious injury to the opposing player, as he returned later in the game. The face that the player was not seriously hurt on the play, makes me wonder why the suspension was so long.
For those of you interested in viewing the video, you can do so by click this link. It seems as if this may significantly hurt Thomas' chances of making the Canadian under 20 roster, for the World Junior Championships. We will have more on this story as it develops.

That was utter bullshit. A ten game suspension??? Yes he was careless with his stick but that’s all he did, and the fact he hit him in the head was completely unintentional. Maybe because it’s OHL they’re more strict on these rules but none the less that’s a horrendous suspension. I could see one or two games but ten is just ridiculous.

Seriously, that dbag Burrows drives his stick into Staal’s nuts, clearly with the intent to injure and there’s not even a minor, yet a hit like this is 10 games. I had to watch that video 10 times before I could even see his stick make contact

Alot of the other suspensions are 10 games too...
so maybe that’s their thing who knows. The rationale is hilarious though…
1. GLANCING blow to the helmet
2. NO injury; player RETURNED to game
3. Persuaded to NOT be intentional
4. Players must maintain control of stick…. so 10 games
So apparently the only thing he did wrong was lose control of his stick, which happens a half dozen times a game in the NHL, of that half dozen, maybe once does it get called for 2 minutes.

But it’s not the NHL, that’s the difference. The CHL is actually serious about suspensions and hits to the head. He was on the ice and swung his stick upward, that’s just careless and stupid. Who gives a shit if the opposing player wasn’t hurt. You do not legislate based on the outcome, you do it based on the act. And the act was incredibly reckless.
No I know,
and if you look at a lot of their other suspensions, they are 10 games as well. Just thought thier rationale was funny because it sounds like they didn’t think it was that bad, but figured ahhh 10 games? Sure why not.
I also think injury does play a part
because that rule is in affect at every level of the “pro” game which Canadian Jrs is considered/
Screw it, he’s clearly a bust, trade him.
