Around SBN: Lakers Should Trade Andrew Bynum So He Doesn't Go To Waste

Bantering Points: The Connecticut Whale, And Sean Avery

109185124_extra_large

Yesterday it was reported by Larry Brooks that Sean Avery will play for the Connecticut Whale tonight, as Avery attempts to work his way back  back to the New York Rangers.

Meanwhile, the Rangers have been playing mediocre hockey, leading to chants from the MSG crowd, such as "we want Avery."

The Rangers really won't gain much from an Avery recall, if you ask me, as their problem lies more in that they struggle to create scoring opportunities, and when they do create scoring opportunities they struggle to score on them.

Going back to the Whale, here is the hit that injured Whale forward Mats Zuccarello.

Also, if you want to decide who should be the next Whale (Whale player? Whaler?) called up, here are the player stats.

The Blue Seat Blog offers some thoughts, including that the hit on Mats Zuccarello by Adam Mair was an "awful blindside." No argument here.

Thoughts on everything? As usual, Let's Go Rangers!

wow, anther awful display last night after the first. I witnessed it first hand. Unfortunately a couple of soft goals against but no one should be blaming the King for anything. At one point the shots were 24-8 after the first period. Dubi was the only one that consistently hit anyone. I don’t know what’s with them. The hit on MZA is BS and is once again why the league should have a no tolerance rule when it comes to head shots. One of these days they will get serious about this. Until then, players will continue to get hurt.

It was a hit in the AHL. Which, while being affiliated with the NHL, isn’t actually part of the NHL. He did get a 4 game suspension though. Not sure if there was a penalty on the play.

I dunno how the hell that hit on Zuke was just 4 games

yet Christian Thomas gets 10 games for basically falling to the ground getting out of the way of a slap shot.

Again, it was in 2 different leagues. They have different rules/policies with that stuff. I agree the suspension for CT was wrong. But it’s hard to compare an OHL and CHL suspension. OHL is usually more strict.

AA did not help his cause last night on the 4th line

you can make the “great defense” argument all you want, but this team isn’t going to win unless we improve our puck possession and offensive output—especially with staal out indefinitely—when girardi got hit with the puck last night, i saw the season flash before our eyes.

Wow, sorry folks. Misread the Brooks tweet, posted about it. Updated the article, very sorry about that.

Wait
The Rangers really won’t gain much from an Avery recall, if you ask me, as their problem lies more in that they struggle to create scoring opportunities

Let me preface this by saying although not all shots are perfect chances, thats exactly what this team needs right now as I pointed out in my article a few days ago. And throughout his career Avery has been productive in the Shots For department, even last year with is paltry 10.83 TOI/60 he still was second on the team behind only MZA.

Torts has “better” players though, don’t worry. Spare me.

Well sure, Avery is probably a better option than Christensen/Newbury, but I don’t think he’s about to save the team. People are acting like the problems will all go away when he shows up.

The point is Avery NEVER WAS the problem

Avery was just a Torts pride thing. Torts has been getting what he wants, but we’re still not getting what we hired him to give us – a team that doesn’t look like a steaming turd running down a doorknob

Never said Avery was the problem at all, not sure where you’re getting that from.

Just saying he’s not the single solution. The team as a whole has to play better.

Didn’t mean to accuse you of saying Avery was the problem, just tying to point out that IMO (and what I think is the opinion of alot of the Avery supporters), bringing back Avery certainly won’t save this team, but he won’t hurt it either, and he really never should have been sent down in the first place. We had plenty of other serious issues to deal with, and all Torts cared about was a rigged competition for the 13th forward spot.

?

So the author claims he doesn’t fit into this years Rangers because of problems from 2009 and before? Makes no sense, despite Avery being drawing more penalties than he takes, getting pucks on net, and being one of the hardest workers.

Physicality

This is something the team is severely lacking. I’m talking about an overall mentality. I have not seen Dubi or Prust or Boyle take the body yet this season. I have not even seen Cally do so consistently like he did last season either. While I know it’s a pipe dream for fans to wish Avery’s return, I do think he is a better option then EC/Newbury. Rupp has shown nothing so far. Richards & Gaborik have yet to gel. Wolski is a waist of a roster spot & money.

Too bad our grinders are undersized and our “top end talent” can’t hit the broad side of the barn.
