New York Rangers Practice News: Artem Anisimov, Michael Del Zotto Sit
After the news broke last night that Tim Erixon and Kris Newbury have been demoted and that Andre Deveaux was promoted, the news broke today that Deveaux is in New York practicing with the team.
Deveaux will wear #33 if anyone is wondering.
Meanwhile, the Connecticut Whale won in a shootout last night. The winning goal was scored by none other than Sean Avery. If you want to keep up with the Whale, follow this twitter profile. How interested would you be in a weekly Whale recap?
Michael Del Zotto and Artem Anisimov are both not practicing today, as Del Zotto's hip is still sore, and Anisimov is either still hurting from being checked into the boards yesterday, or he is being benched for poor play.
#NYR lines: Wolski-Stepan-Gaborik, Dubinsky-Richards-Callahan Fedotenko-Boyle-Prust. Deveaux Christensen skating together.

Probably Stralman
Even if Staal getas cleared to practice soon he won’t return for a month afterward. Look how long Crosby’s been out, and he was cleared for contact two weeks ago. Staal won’t be back anytime soon.

I agree… staal will need at least 3 weeks to get his conditioning done… on that note I’m not quite sure why Erixon was demoted… he had played pretty well… Maybe the move is to give him more playing time so he can get the 25 minutes a night, i haven’t looked at his minutes on the NYR so don’t hold me to that…

On Erixon
I do not really think the Rangers wanted him in the NHL to start the season. They want to let him develop a bit.

By the way
One of the beat writes just stated that Anisimov and Del Zotto will be good to go tomorrow night. Also Jeff Woywitka will be playing tomorrow as well.
Avery
Rumors swirling that NYR will bring Avery back
I’ve been seeing that as well, trying to confirm from “reliable” sources.

If AA is being benched due to poor play…..how is EC still in the lineup? It is clear he can’t play on any line. Does torts have a man crush on him because he still seems to be safe despite his consistently inconsistant play on a daily basis. Bring up one of the kids for the 4th line, get this guy out…bring Averyy back….do something, EC clearly has no business being on this team, he had a weak camp, has done nothing, not even S/O success….he brings nothing to the table
Absolute Worst Ranger Fan!!!!!!....yet incredibly realistic and usually correct.
EC isnt even consistently inconsistent anymore. hes never good. hes consistently terrible

this is where Torts has lost his mind. BR was brought here for Gaby, though Gaby is playing well anyway. And the Pack Line needs to stay together. If this team is going anywhere then it will be these 5 players in those combos that will get them there. Breaking them up after less than 10 games is crazy enough but to make EC and WW significant players in the line-up is insane.
richards played damn good with cally and dubi… he’s hoping richards can jumpstart dubi… and right now gabby doesn’t need richards to score, even though they saw significant time on the ice together…
@clalicata17
Richards was brought here to bring scoring depth to the club. He was brought here to help the Rangers, not just Gabby.
I like Richards with Dubi and Calli on the flanks. AA will work just fine with Gabby.

IF it is true
that avery is being recalled… he’ll be back playing with a chip on his shoulder and thats when he’s at his best…
@clalicata17
So you're predicting he'll score more than three goals this year?
by graves9 on Oct 30, 2011 3:22 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
lol i dunno if i’d go that far… lets just say he’ll skate every shift and piss a lot of other teams players off…
@clalicata17
i’ve always been a fan of avery and still am… do i think this team could win without him absolutely… do i think they are a worse team with him absolutely not…
if he is recalled he will have an immediate impact on the games because he plays with energy and sticks up for his teammates…
the biggest gripe with him isn’t really with him but with league in that he’s a marked man and it takes somebody to actually drag him to the ground when he doesn’t want to fight for him to draw a penalty… the double standard is BS…
@clalicata17
I agree with everything you said. I wanted Avery back the 2nd time. Problem is that the league nutured him and made him ineffective with their corrupt officiating and Bettman bias. Add to that Torts hatred of him it just doesn’t make sense that he’ll be playing for Torts. Remember what Torts said about Avery when he was a broadcaster? Torts said he should be thrown out of the league for his antics.
If Avery gets called back….I think he will play like a mad man, hitting everything in sight. This might lead to penalties though. I miss his antics as he keeps the game exciting, but I don’t think he is a solution to turning this team around. He would really have to play like he did on his first tour with the team many years ago.
Also, the recall of Avery would sound the alarm to the rest of league that the Rangers are not doing well. Honestly, you bring back a guy you cut and put on waivers. This whole situation is weird and un professional. I don’t understand the state of this team right now.

Some thoughts on the Avery Recall
I saw Aves first game back with the Whale, front on center. I had seats on the glass in Adirondack, even was down in the tunnel to give him a “go get ’em” with my little guy before the game. The first period Avery only played about 3 shifts. I think this was precautionary, they wanted to get him back up to game speed slowly, let him make sure his shoulder was back to 100%, and not just throw him to the wolves. In those 3 shifts he was intent on being “Sean Avery – Hockey Player”. He was just looking to score, and play the game, not talking, not looking to hit, just trying to be a skill player, and getting frustrated when things we’re going his way. It was Avery, “just playing hockey” and while he was still better then most of the AHL guys talent wise, he wasn’t really that good.
About the middle of the 2nd, the competitve juices seemed to take over, and he gave up trying to show he could be a “skill guy” for Torts, and got back to playing Sean Avery hockey. He was playing the body, digging for pucks, looking for calls when he got hit, chirping at the refs between plays. He even started stepping in and taking faceoffs and he was pretty good. Avery was out on the ice, playing with heart, and doing anything he felt could get his team a W. When he chirped at the refs, or another player “Kenny” didn’t bench him for 3 shifts, he just let it happen. Because the coach wasn’t making a show that he didn’t approve of Avery’s behavior, guys had to deal with it. After one faceoff discussion with a linesman, I think he actually got the refs to start cracking down on Phantom players cheating on draws.
To anyone questioning Avery’s heart, or what kind of player he is, you should have seen him, playing in a minor league game in a half empty arena, and you’d realize he was all heart. He hustled to ice the game with an empty netter, then stood his ground when he was jumped by a Phantoms defenseman, twice his size, immediatly after the goal. He can’t be too bad of a teamate, cause the guys down there were flocking to him. Talking to him on the bench, and on the way onto the ice. The more I saw, up close and personal, the more I realized Avery doesn’t just BELONG up with the big club, he would be a benefit. He might not give us the scoring we need directly, but he brings heart, desire to wear a rangers jersey, and an attitude that can give us an edge if Torts can swallow his pride long enough to let it happen.
So you're blaming Torts for Avery's bad play over the past few years?
that’s just silly. Oh and Kris Newbury plays well in the Ahl too. You’re heart talk is tired too. Avery’s a regular David Eckstein. Btw Eckstein was praised for his heart because he stopped being good long ago.

Get the feeling...
the Avery recall is adjoining another move. The Cigar has been talking to the Bruins, according.. to NHL on the Fly. Many feel a deal could be in the works, and the name Boychuk keeps coming up. You could have a situation where Stralman signs a two-way, and the Rangers get Boychuk for Wolski.

Boychuk’s having a hard time cracking the lineup of a not-so-great Calgary defense. Giving up Wolski is too much.

I thought David Krejci is the name that keeps popping up. Saying this, we are good to go at center, unless we send one the other way. Of the possible availables, I would only maybe part with Boyle. AA is one of my favs., would not want to give Dubi.

Thanks for clarifying this for them.
I would personally endorse this deal. Could you imagine that in two seasons, Sather would have widdled Roszival’s contract into $1.875 mil if he were to make this move.
That would be hot.
