Breaking News: Sean Avery To Be Placed On Re-Entry Waivers Tomorrow

Photo

As speculated earlier today on twitter stating that Sean Avery will be coming back to New York, can finally be confirmed. Larry Brooks just posted via twitter that Sean Avery will be placed on re-entry waivers tomorrow. As expected, Avery will probably clear re-entry waivers.

But due to the 48 hour rule, Avery won't officially be cleared to play until Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks. It seems as if most fans received their wish, Sean Avery is coming back to New York. In two games with the Connecticut Whale, Sean Avery posted a fight, along with an empty net goal, and a shootout goal.

To me, it seems as if the Rangers are missing that extra "spark" and/or emotion this season. My guess is that Kris Newbury could not fill that void, and they're turning back to Sean Avery. If he goes unclaimed (which he likely will), look for him to play with a chip on his shoulder.

He will come back looking to prove himself once again, and show that he deserves to be on this team. More to come on this later tonight.

I don’t care either way, just want to be done with all the Avery posts. Now if the Rangers start winning, everyone will say it is due to him. The Rangers will start winning either way. So the fans have been heard. Next game I am going to yell at Dolan to give me a million $$$$$$$, a bevy of beautiful women, and no more Avery posts. Three wishes, right? Lets go Rangers!

Nolan finally got tired of slats and torts sending mils of his dough to minor league. Welcome back Aves and tell ur coach that this team is not a deck of cards 2b shuffled after each game. :)

Yes, because being out shot, out played, out hustled, out coached, loosing every battle for the puck, and blocking a thousand shots a game = just a matter of time before things start to click? The Rangers will start winning either way? Yeah, being out played every game and hoping King Henrik steals about 40 more games seems like a do-able way to the stanley cup? BLINDERS! I also predict The King scores 50 goals this year , that seems as likely as them “starting to win either way”!

No, no. The season is over, we suck etc.etc.etc. Obviously the Rangers lack the skill, talents, and everything else it takes to win any game in the NHL. Ever hear of hyperbole, it is not working.

LOL. At what point is the panic button? Dramatic? Lets face reality for one second, Vancouver= stolen game, you see them stealing these kind of games often? Without a “dramatic” turn around this team goes nowhere! Nobody wants them to succeed as much as me, but again being out,….well everything every game is a concern!

by Dizzybizzy on Oct 31, 2011 2:33 AM EDT up reply actions

looking at your team (without the rosy glasses) is not being “dramatic” it’s what i like to call living in reality! Any other way of looking at this team as it stands today, is simply living in la la land.

Re-read your above post. All hyperbole and full of drama. I am in “la la land”? So I have to look through your eyes to see reality? I am being very realistic. So most of the team is playing bad, big deal. Only time is going to help, and it will. Bitching about it is not going to help. Panic? Now that is something I will lol to.

LOL. No bitching doesn’t help. Wishing does.! LMFAO, you can crap in one hand and wish in the other and see what hand fills up quicker. That is just cheerleader mentality. Time helps? lol? that is about the most blinded statement i have EVER heard. Time helps what? As time goes on they are certain to get better? As time goes on, Henrik wears down from being out worked EVERY night, players get hurt from blocking shots, and Torts will continue to make the word chemistry disappear from the Rangers dictionary! I guess Reality can only been seen through the rosy glasses, I guess your perception of "as time goes on things get better " is reality!

I love how some people love making comments about being “dramatic” “sky is falling” “jump off a cliff” and Never face the reality of what is actually happening here. I guess its that old if life hands you lemons thinking. If you think like that i guess you never really lose. I guess in time thing will turn around 100% and everything WILL be okay. It's not denial, it's a small sample size

You realize we are only 11% done with the season right? Boston’s really the worst team in the Eastern Conference, Toronto the 2nd best…let’s just not even play the other 73 games. Do me a favor, take a look at the standings after 10 games for the past few season & see how many times there are teams that have sucked that make the playoffs & vice-versa. In 2009-2010, we were 8-3-1 in the first 12 games & WE MISSED THE PLAYOFFS!
I mean look at baseball, the Cardinals were 10.5 games back with 1 month left to play. They’re not the WS champs. Chill the F out. Let’s see where this team is in 10 or even 15 games from now…then we’ll talk.

No all is good in Ranger land. The season is FAR from over , just keep getting out played , put on our blinders and keep making “jump off cliff statements” or saying , “it’s only 3 games, ….uh four games….uh 47 games, uh it’s only a season”

by BriGuy27 on Oct 31, 2011 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Well I agree that it is just 10 games deep. But I don’t really think you can compare St Louis Cards (who are in probably in the worst division in all baseball) to The NY Rangers. What I am doing off is going off the Rangers last 3-4 years. They have either squeaked in the playoffs or missed barely (09-10) I don’t think they have the luxury of starting out the 1st 25% of the season badly when the Pens, Flyers, Washington, Boston etc are going to be there in the end, and the Isles, Toronto, Buffalo have improved over the last year.

Again if you read EVERYTHING I have said, you would know I’m not calling the season over, I’m calling for change. Exactly what changes are needed, I really don’t know. What I do know is .500 hockey is NOT going to get you in the playoffs or a few games over .500. So there is no need for me to “chill the F out” is there? I mean I am entitled to my opinion as is everyone else here correct? If everyone here just put on their mini skirt and pom poms cheering on a team that has really not been that good, this site would be kind of boring wouldn’t it? Eventually at some point this whole “it’s only 2-3-4-7-9 , 11% games” thing just doesn’t make any sense any more.

I don’t think I am alone in this thinking. Articles here about struggling, Analyst’s talking about the Rangers struggling, Jonh Torterella talking about struggling. I don’t think I am the only fan here that thinks changes are needed.

by Dizzybizzy on Nov 1, 2011 8:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Very surprising.
If he gets claimed, the NYR will have an even more complex cap situation – since some portion of his cap hit will be charged to the Rangers (either one-half or one-quarter – lots of debate on this and I don’t think it was ever fully resolved one way or the other).

And if he does clear – it’s going to be an interesting locker room given his “I was never given a fair shot” comments of a week or so ago to the press.

He adds more to the roster than Christensen does at this point. But I don’t think he’s the ultimate answer to the scoring problems (Sean – I hope you prove me wrong !)

i don’t get his vendetta for AA. He did nothing wrong honestly? Just because he hasn’t produced doesn’t mean he is the worst player on the ice. I feel like he needs to just play his game , he has amazing hands and moves but i feel torts wants him playing under one style which is the grind shit. AA can be a 60+ point producer without a doubt in my mind but not under torts. Mark my words if he goes to a diff team , he will be a top forward.

torts may know hockey

but he is clueless when it comes to dealing with players as people—he is the antithesis of a players’ coach, exemplifying every single negative quality thereof—this season has been a total circus so far and quite frankly it’s embarrassing.

by Town on Oct 30, 2011 9:21 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah, like forgot more hockey yesterday than you'll ever know

I don’t like him as a coach, but I’d take him to coach my team over you.

That being said, speak to Sully about the power play, not him—agree with you on the line changes but the splitting up richards and gaby had a lot more to do with the pack line not playing good hockey than Richards and Gaby.

Guy has no clue how to relate to his players or nurture the Rangers’ crop of young players who aren’t talented enough to have their developmental track altered or screwed up. I’m afraid he might lose the locker room by the end of the season.

by Town on Oct 30, 2011 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Cally. Dubi and AA all developed well under Torts

as has Girardi and Staal. He also turned Boyle and Prust from pluggers who play 4-6 minutes a night into good players. He also did a great job with guys like St. Louis, Dan Boyle, Richards, Feds, and Vinny in TB.

Anismov, Boyle, and Stepan have regressed this season so far

A ton of talent there, but the verdict is not out yet on them—Also, not sure if I’m ready to give the lion’s share of credit to torts for players who had a significant amount of time playing in Hartford/under a different head coach

I'm sure Anisimov is thrilled that isntead of letting him bust out of a slump

Torts is nailing his ass to the bench—I’m sure he loves him. The record does not bother me—I’m not a fan who jumps on my team when they’re down—my only beef is with Torts. The constant shuffling of the lines, calling guys up and sending them down and just general disconnect with his players individually does not bode well.

by Town on Oct 31, 2011 11:45 AM EDT up reply actions

The AA thing bothers me a lot. Torts has been juggling lines to get players going. Cally and Dubi need a spark so Torts puts BR between them. AA needs a spark, so he is juggled between the 4th line and the bench? I don’t get it. I really expected to see AA up with Gabby for at least a period while BR was with the Pack. He deserves it.

I don’t want Avery on that line, but in a few of gabby’s goal scoring games last year Avery was the guy on the other wing. So I’m open to giving it a shot, not like it could hurt. But I’d prefer a real first liner to be there.

From what we've seen from Gaborik this year

And in his first year in NY is that when he’s on his game he can pretty much drive the offense by himself. I wouldn’t say that Avery is the key to what makes Gaborik click.

Yea that’s why I went with “just saying” i doubt Avery is the “key” but at least he has worked last year a few times since we all know torts throws everyone on the bench on a line together at some point.

NY loves a Badass like my hockey hero Domi was. I like the Avery that can be the badass, but the not the pest. Torts hates the pest and doesnt have the ability or the understanding to help coach avery to be a true NY badass. So I have little faith in Avery returning amounting to anything, because he doesnt understand how to use him effectively. Whats he going to do put him out on the 1st line where he doesn’t belong?

The only thing this may be good for is more verification that Torts doesnt have a clue what he is doing and maybe the other decision makers are starting to tell him what to do, instead of letting him do what he wants to do. Because he doesn’t like Avery to begin with, so I doubt it was his grand idea to bring him back and acknowledge he was wrong to send him down.

My gut tells me Avery is not the problem, we’ve got lots of talent assembled on this team and a spark is not what’s needed but a better coach. I’ve never seen a team of players be so rewarded and punished at the same time. Maybe a good idea would be to let them start to win and lose as a TEAM. Instead of this person is the problem or not having that person is the answer.

Isn’t this all a good story line for 24/7? Relax, the Rangers will start playing better, so it is written, so it shall be done.

Avery playing for Torts is shocking to me. I can’t help but think that a team is going to claim Avery and that’s why he is going to be on re-entry waivers. Just a gut feeling.

by Richter1994 on Oct 30, 2011 8:19 PM EDT reply actions

huh? that makes no sense. the Rangers wouldnt put him on reentry if they thought hed get claimed. him getting claimed is the worst thing that could happen

by nyrangerfan521 on Oct 30, 2011 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions

why not, then the fans can’t chant for him, no? I’m not saying it will happen but I wouldn’t be surprised. if this is Sather overriding the coach then what do you think it does to the team? Undermining the coach is not the best thing for the team.

by Richter1994 on Oct 30, 2011 8:34 PM EDT up reply actions

theyd be on the hook for his cap hit all year then no matter what. if he doesnt work out they can send him back down to get rid of his cap hit

by nyrangerfan521 on Oct 30, 2011 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree. I’m just having a hard time believing that Torts agreed to this. especially after being quoted today as saying the Avery recall rumors are unfounded. so, is this Sather undermining him? if so, then there’s internal unrest.

by Richter1994 on Oct 30, 2011 8:46 PM EDT up reply actions

where did u see those quotes? if thats the case that is not good at all. but the rangers certainly arent putting him on re-entry in hopes somebody will claim him

by nyrangerfan521 on Oct 30, 2011 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

I was trying to find exactly what I read to post for you but couldn’t. All I remember reading today that it didn’t sound like Torts was even considering Avery for recall. We’ll see how this plays out. it may not be good for the team overall.

Good Move

This team needs Avery. And I also think someone went over Torts’ head on this one. I think he’ll be a good spark, which this team obviously needs. I obviously can’t know for sure how much/little the other players in the locker room want Avery, but I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them were very pleased to see his pesty ass swagger back into that new locker room. Like it or not he’s become a part of the Rangers “persona” over the last years. I believe they need him for intangibles that do not show up on score sheets or stats (though I hope he lights it up). He’s the “flash” that is (and always has been) New York City. I think of Duguay of the 70s…80s…. Not the scoring ability of course, but the glitz or star appeal. Or Don Murdoch… You may think such things have very little to do with hockey, but Sean Avery, like all the other players, is more than just a “hockey machine”, he’s a human being with a very unique personality on and off the ice. Could it be that his personality, in addition to his actual play on the ice, has a positive affect on the rest of his teammates? I think it might…. Time will tell.

Torts/Richards...

How quickly we forget. Torts and Richards both come from the lightning. Torts has always had it out for Avery and Richards and Avery did not get along in Dallas. My guess is Richards and torts are swallowing their pride. Avery brings more energy then anyone of these bums right now minus Gabby. Avery was flying every preseason Game i saw.

what? richards and avery are actually friends. speculation was avery was recruiting richards to come play for the rangers

they’re best friends, lol. they were travelling all summer together and Avery may have helped to get BR here.

I’m not sure where you’re getting this “Richards and Avery did not get along in Dallas” stuff – but you’re dead wrong – maybe you should look back earlier in this year (2011) when Richards and Avery were on vacation together….

Richards and Avery are good friends.

by CrazyRangerFan on Oct 31, 2011 12:44 AM EDT reply actions

Nothing is going on. We just have some more kinks than usual. Believe it or not, they are already starting to work themselves out. Not to compare, but even a lot more talented teams are struggling so far. No worries.

Work themselves out?

We just blew a 3rd period 3 goal lead and lost in a S/O, I’d say that is cause for concern being that happened in the last 12 minutes of the game.

not everyone who is expressing concern or displeasure is "panicking"

I’m not. I just see areas where we can improve and I have a lot of bones to pick with our head coach.

I still like our players and the direction this franchise is going in. I’m paying a lot of money to go to games, so I think I deserve to be critical of the millionaires that I follow so closely.

He's BBAAACCCKKKK!!! (maybe)

What great news for the referees!!!!! They can get back to calling penalties that are only figments of their imagination, without worrying about reality!!!!! They will have their whipping boy back!!!
AVERY
skate next to an opposing player—————interference
poke check a puck——————————————- high sticking
getting up slowly after getting mugged by an opposing player———delay of game
stand near the crease——————golie interference
and lastly—- protecting himself in a scrum—————-fighting major and ejection

Yup, the refs are gonna love having Avery back!!!
Oh, and management will say NOTHING about it!!!

Avery vs. Torts

It would be really entertaining to see Avery and Torts go at it on the bench. They start arguing….

Avery makes fun of Torts by grimacing and pouting,
Torts throws a water bottle at him,
Avery calls Torts a homophobic slur,
Torts tells Avery he should put his ego in his pocket,
Avery tells Torts “you probably got beat up at the bus stop a lot”,
Torts tells Avery “You have no Jam”

Big mistake

You read it here first- this is a mistake. Sean Avery is just a huge distraction…on any team. I would not be surprised if he has a somewhat positive impact for a game or two, but that’s it. The refs have his number now, he takes silly penalties (something the Rangers do not need more of), the coach can’t stand him, teammates can’t stand him (check it out when he is on the bench- he does not speak to anyone, and no one speaks to him), and his decent (just decent) offensive skills have deteriorated.
If Avery is the answer, you asked the wrong question.

by JackandAce on Oct 31, 2011 4:03 PM EDT reply actions

This post has nothing to do with Avery. It seems the referees already have Dubi’s number now. The fake slash call and the call for “snowing”(Amongst several others), GMAB.

I would rather see Avery play then Newbury or Rupp.
Rupp has been invisible out there.
Also, liked the idea of bench clearing brawl on our own bench.
Players would have to line up to get in their shots at Tort’s.
