Rangers Vs. Hurricanes: Keys To The Game

Photo

The New York Rangers returned from Ottawa to play in front of their home crowd once again, and look for their sixth consecutive win. They are coming off a 3-2 win, after a strong performance by the GAS line. Hopefully that remains hot, and continues to put up the points.

Here are tonight's keys to the game.

Keep Up The Forecheck: This has been the key to success for the Rangers over the last five games, their forecheck. After failing to establish this in the first couple games, the Rangers went back to their old ways. Battling in the corner, and continuously cycling will put wear and tear on the opponents. As you noticed over the last few games as well, the defense is getting into the offense a little more, this is the main reason. They need to keep it up again tonight, and keep hounding the opponents defense.

Follow after the jump for more.

Star-divide

GAS Line Needs To Continue: The line of Marian Gaborik, Artem Anisimov and Derek Stepan has been the best Rangers line thus far, hands down. They combined for all three goals last game in Ottawa, and need to continue their success. Derek Stepan has the uncanny ability to feed Gabby and Artie the puck, and they can both finish. Look for this line to get a lot of minutes tonight, which will give them numerous opportunities to convert.

Brandon Dubinsky Needs To Score: This was stressed by Joe in the last key's to the game post, but it needs to happen. We noticed it with Stepan, Anisimov, and Ryan Callahan, the first goal is huge. Dubinsky has had numerous chances but was unable to convert. After Dubinsky gets the first goal, it will take a ton of weight off of his back. It's not to say Dubinsky has been playing terrible, he's been doing everything else right, he just needs to find the back of the net. Tonight would be a perfect opportunity for him to get in front of the home crowd.

Revenge on Staal

Maybe it is just me, but I tend to think that Marc, being the classy guy that he is, probably really does not want any Ranger to exact revenge on Eric.

I hope they learned their lesson from last season where they spent all day chasing Subban around while MTL beat them on the scoreboard.

that game was brutally hard to watch….

And sadly ironic

that it was Dubi doing most of the chasing. :(

I agree

They should just worry about their game. If there’s an opportunity within the game to lay good check on Eric, then take it, but not for the sakes of “getting back” at anyone.

We always seem to bring out the best in the canes so hopefuly that doesn’t happen and we can pull out 2 points from a team thts been struggling.

As for staal, george brought up a good point. Last year we wasted our energy chasing PK around the whole game and lost. Forget it this time. Especially cuz eric is not a douchebag like PK.

I’m expecting the GAS line to keep doing what they’ve been doing and for McD to find the net tonight.

As for dubi? Well why beat a dead horse? We all hope for him to get tht goal and hopefuly its downhill from there on.

Prediction(I hate jinxing it): 4-1 ranger
Gabby goal
Artie goal
Boyle goal
Avery!!! Goal

Dubi hits the post. Sauer has 2 assists. Canes score the first goal.

Get back at Eric by beating his team… end of story…

I think Marc’s already gotten back at Eric by getting and staying in his head. Only 5 points and a 16 so far this season is one of the crueler punishments you can give to a hockey player-one whose mind is currently elsewhere.

Theres nothing to get back at Eric for, you guys act like he intentionally laid Marc out and tried to hurt him. For gods sake it was a solid clean check it just so happened Marc got hurt from it, big deal get over it and move on.

+1

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
