Will Sean Avery Be In The Line-up Thursday Night?
WIth Sean Avery clearing waivers, and officially be re-called on Tuesday, that makes him eligible to play Thursday night. But, of course would he actually be in the line-up to start the game?
John Tortorella met with the media, following Avery clearing waivers. He stated that there was no guarantee he would be placed in the line-up, because of ice time. The Rangers offense came out strong last game, and Tortorella probably wants to give it another go-around.
It seems as if this decision was made, following the news about Mike Rupp's knee problems. Tortorella said that Avery was the next best option to fill the void. Here's his quote from the NY Daily News, "He’s a terrific skater, and obviously a big part of his play is his forechecking, his play underneath the hash mark … When a guy like Rupper goes out, to me it’s the right call with Sean."
I guess we'll find out who is playing later today as the Rangers gather for practice. We will keep you guys updated.

I doubt he plays it would be nice to see him come out all charged up. I’ll be there to witness it first hand so I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

I think they'll ride the hot hand with Christensen
until he continues to play up to his potential or fades away into a floating jersey again. For some reason I see Deveaux getting the benefit of the doubt and a long leash—just a hunch.
Seems a bit obvious

It appears that Avery is the extra forward. No surprise since the Rangers are coming off their best performance of the season.

Although I truly hate to see AA on the fourth line, I think these lines have an awesome balance for this team. Not that I am expecting these to be the lines, I just think they would work really well. I will let you all know if Tarts responds to my e-mail suggestion .

Sean Avery said he’s talked to coaches and agrees “there’s no reason to change” lineup tomorrow. Doesn’t sound like he expects to play.

I’m going to the Montreal game on Saturday, so I selfishly hope Avery sits for now, EC plays himself out of the lineup tonight (while Rangers still get the win), and Avery plays against Montreal. May make sense to put him in to try to keep P.K. Subban in his place.

avery is our grinder
subban is an important part of their team. i definitely agree thats where aves style is best utilized. he can nock one of their more important players off his game. even if he des nothing else, getting subban to take a couple dumb retaliation penalties would be exactly what i hope/expect avery to do… if he plays.
Anyone have the over/under for how many times we will read the word “leash” in comments if Avery plays horribly?
