Breaking News: Marc Staal Makes Trip To Florida With The Rangers

NEW YORK NY - JANUARY 05: Marc Staal #18 of the New York Rangers skates against his brother Eric Staal #12 of the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden on January 5 2011 in New York City. (Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images)

Jim Cerny posted via twitter that New York Rangers defenseman, Marc Staal, is accompanying the team to Florida for Wednesday match-up against the Panthers. Also making the trip along with Staal are forwards Mike Rupp and Wojtek Wolski. This is Staal's first time traveling with the team, since experiencing headaches back in training camp.

It is definitely a good sign to see Staal traveling with the team once again, but we have received no further updates on his, or any of the other players conditions. Of course, this is another step closer in Staal's length recovery, but we can't speculate he will be playing anytime soon.

Just about a week ago, Marc Staal was finally cleared to begin light workouts by his doctor. Now he is traveling along with the team, and it definitely shows there is improvement. Before it is said, Marc Staal will not be playing tomorrow, there is no possible way he is in game shape, nor has he been fully cleared, we still have some time before that happens.

Of course he would go to Florida, HE is going to enjoy the beautiful vacation.

Wolski and rupp should miss there flight or take the wrong one and head over to Connecticut. Bourque zucc. Or Hagelin should all come up. Did I mention sending Christensen to Siberia

Marc, I hope you get well even forgetting about playing hockey. But going from a stationery bike to traveling with the team makes no sense. I can’t imagine he can be practicing at this point in his healing process. But who knows? I will say though that the Rangers did a very fine job of screwing this up as they did not prepare at all for not having Marc’s services for a long period of time. BTW, reading that MDZ may sit if and when Stralman plays. Hmmm, imagine that?

He isn't gonna play

He wasn’t even fully cleared for contact, has not been practicing, there is no way.
And MDZ being scratched? I haven’t heard anything, and I wouldn’t understand why he would be scratched for Stralman. Was thinking Woywitka or Eminger, even though Stralman is more of an offensive D like MDZ

Proudly suffering as a Ranger fan.

actually I read it again and it was on the PP not the line-up. I was surprised to read it as well so I went back. Sorry about that. But what’s the point of bringing Marc on the trip?

by Richter1994 on Nov 22, 2011 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

If anyone is going to be scratched for him, I see it being either Woywitka or Eminger.

by Bryan Winters on Nov 22, 2011 7:31 PM EST up reply actions

probably. I just hope that Stralman or ANYONE jump starts the PP. 12%? Holy crap. I know people don’t believe in shooting at will but at this point exactly what do they have to lose? Going PPs without ONE shot on goal is disgraceful.

we really lack that key player that has the booming shot from the point, so there is no worry when the puck gets to the point of the shot…

McCabe’s shot is not booming. He’s more accurate from the point. Babchuk from Calgary has a big shot. So does Boychuk as I mentioned above.

you are 100% correct. I keep hearing shots get blocked. so? you think opponents think twice when a guy like Chara winds up? ahhh, yeah. The Rangers’ opponents have zero fear not to mention they know they don’t shoot to begin with. start hitting players with shots and they won’t be so quick to do it. I want the Rangers to ask about Boychuk from the Bees. He’s a FA after this year and they got Corvo as a hedge to Boychuk leaving/being traded. Boychuk has a big shot and is an aggressive D, something else the team needs.

BTW Stralman is supposed to have a big shot and a big reason why he was brought here. Currently working with the first PP unit. Of course he would actually have to play in a game to be useful.

Honestly, and this is pure speculation, I wouldn’t be surprised if they were simply testing out how travel affects how he feels. He is definitely not practicing for another few weeks.

That’s exactly what I thought when I heard it. I figure they want to make sure the flying doesn’t bring back his headaches. Also think he probably wants to be with the team for the holiday and some nice weather.

Or maybe he’s just making the trip because he’s an assistant captain and leader on this time who’s been out of the room for months at this point…

Most likely reason Marc Staal made the trip

Actually, from a medical standpoint I believe he is traveling with the team to see how he handles flying itself. How he handles the air pressure changes experienced during the trip is another tell tale sign of his progess. (Went through this with my own son after he suffered a mild concussion during a game – was not allowed to fly for a few weeks) Hopefully, he did not experience any headaches, dizziness and nausia.

the real reason staal and others make the trip

Is team bonding on thanksgiving. Since the rest of the team will be out of town for the holiday, it makes sense to bring the others along to be together.

I am pretty sure staal flies to buffalo for his treatment. There so the test of how bhe reacts to air travel is a moot pt to me.

I don’t read anything else into the travel plans.
