Anton Stralman Will Make New York Rangers Debut Tonight

Photo

The New York Rangers announced that defenseman Anton Stralman will be in the line-up tonight, and make his Rangers debut. Stralman signed a one-year deal with the New York Rangers on November 5th, 2011. Since than he has been training and adapting to the Rangers system.

Tonight will be his first game in Ranger Blue, and he hopes to prove himself out there. However, there has been no mention of who will be scratched in his presence. My guess is that it will either be Jeff Woywitka or Steve Eminger. Anton Stralman played with the Columbus Blue Jackets last season recording one goal and 17 assists, along with 22 penalty minutes.

He will likely start tonight's game on the third pairing, with either Steve Eminger or Jeff Woywitka. Also the other day during practice, Stralman was on the point with the first power play unit, so he may see some time there tonight.

Be sure to check out our official announcement regarding the Rangers Winter Classic Jerseys, and our contest. Also be sure to look at tonight's keys to the game article!

Agreed – the idea that MDZ has been outstanding this year is ludicrous. At times he’s been mediocre, but lately he’s been brutal.

he’s been good in games but none against the top teams or teams with speed. He was just as brutal against the Leafs in the home opener as he had the same problems as Sat night. someone posted that he was a forward until juniors. that explains a lot to me.

I agree with Kevin, he’s been really good lately. I’m not sure why his past hate is still overshadowing his current play to some people…

by Bryan Winters on Nov 23, 2011 6:34 PM EST up reply actions

it’s not “past hate.” did you watch the game on Sat night? Torts had to move MDZ to “hide” him from the Habs’ top line. Why is it when us “honest” fans say something it is being overly critical? I said at the beginning of the year and I’ll say it again: He should have started with the Whale. Blue Skys above wrote a perfect post as to why. It has to do with positioning and the ability to skate. Something I have MDZ has lacked since he came into the league. You watch the way the better teams will attack him while he’s on the ice.

off topic

what is it with announcing crews? living in CO i’m forced to watch whatever broadcast they show on center ice. you listen to Sam and Joe and they talk about the Rangers, then they talk about the other team, the matchups, etc. Florida talks about the Panthers. no mention of the rangers except for, “Panthers vs. Lundqvist coming up”. wtf.

Shoot the puck Barry!!!

That’s one of the reasons why some announcers work in the Big Apple and others work in the backwoods! It’s called TALENT!
You guys that have MSG don’t have to listen to the garbage announcers in the hinterlands, like I do, just because I live in Florida. After a diet of Rimer and Povin, the Panthers finally hired a different “team”, Steve “Goldy” Goldstein and “Billy” Lindsay. After listening to a couple of games done by these two Homers, you would think that every Panther pass is FANTASTIC, every deke is MARVELOUS, and every hit is MAGNIFICENT. As far as they are concerned, the opposition doesn’t exist, and the game is won before the Panthers even took the ice! I really don’t know which broadcast team is worse, but either team must turned away lots more fans than they attracted.
I know Micheletti isn’t in Chadwick or JD’s class, but he’s WAY better as a color commentator than Lindsay or Potvin, or, God forbid “Chico” Resch!!!!!
Since I don’t pay much attention to the other broadcast teams from the lesser teams from the other parts of the USA and ESPECIALLY Canada, I don’t know their names, but I’m do know they’ll never work in any mainstream market!!!
If I could, I’d pay 2-3 X what I’m paying for NHL Center Ice If I could get MSG, But it’s just not available in Florida from Comcast (but that’s another subject entirely).
Count your blessings!!!!
