Rangers Vs. Coyotes: Keys To The Game
The New York Rangers are looking to break out of a two-game losing streak tonight when they take on the Phoenix Coyotes on the road. It's going to be a tough matchup against a solid team, and here is how the Rangers can get the win they need.
Score Some Goals: The Rangers have scored just one goal in the back-to-back losses to the Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues. New York's offense didn't create too many scoring chances and the team ended up losing a 1-0 decision and a 4-1 decision because of it. Tonight, the Rangers want to get on the board early so they can get their confidence back It's tough for a team when the offense isn't putting up goals, hopefully that's taken care of early tonight.
Familiar Faces: It will be a reunion between Lauri Korpikoski and Michal Rozsival tonight when the pair takes on their former team. Same would go for Wojtek Wolski, but he's still out of the lineup due to his hernia surgery. Both Kospikoski and Rozsival are probably going to want to make the Rangers pay for sending them out West in two different trades, so the Rangers need to be ready for an emotionally charged game tonight.
Join me after the jump for more.
Defense, Defense, Defense: It hasn't just been the scoring that's plagued the Rangers in their past two losses, it's been the defense as well. Although the Rangers only gave up one goal to Dallas there were multiple defensive gaffs that needed spectacular Henrik Lundqvist saves to keep out of the net. Obviously Tim Erixon wasn't the answer to my defensive questions, because the young defenseman was sent down yesterday. Either way, the Rangers need to start shoring up the defense.
Confidence Boosters: The Rangers' confidence isn't very high anymore, and that's a problem. We saw how good the team played when they were confident, but very tough back-to-back losses have the Rangers a little down on themselves. New York can break out of that spell with a win tonight, but it won't be easy. Simple hockey needs to reign supreme tonight. No passes up the middle, smart plays in transition and convert your opportunities when you get them. That's the best way to break out of a mini-slump like this one.

it’s the same every game: play physically, forecheck and have strong puck support = Ranger win. elements of their game they forgot during the last 2 = 2 Ranger losses (and looking ugly doing it).
Avery > Rupp > EC

1 goal in our last two
I’m thinking if we score more goals this game, we could possibly win

Teams that outscore their opponents in regulation win 100% of the time.
Those are pretty good odds.

Coyotes trade Kyle Turris to Ottawa for David Rundblad and a 2nd Rounder
…in case anyone gives a sh*t!
anybody know
if biron or hank will get the start tonight? Or where i could find this information? What time is the starting goalie for that nights game usually announced?
I only hope...
I hope I will not see E.Christiasen..he is useless.why keep him on a roster?..just for a fucking shoot-out?.and still you don,t know if he doesn,t miss..play Avery, even 6-8 minutes he will bring a little spark…Today I expect more life and fighting and a win somehow..Go Rangers!!
So if nobody falls for his trash talk, which probably most out of conference teams probably don’t, and he doesn’t add anything to the scoresheet what does he add to the team that the other rotating cast members of the 7 minute/4th line club don’t?
This isn’t to defend Christensen (who’s as much of a waste of pure talent as there is in this league) but rather to wonder why people think a guy that has demonstrated occasional and marginal value to the team in about his last 180 games drives the overall team’s play.

What's the Rangers record when Avery plays?
Even just this year with and without him?

I don’t have the numbers, but I assume you’re asking rhetorically to be confrontational. To assume that there is a direct causal relationship between him being in the lineup and the Rangers winning is so ignorant it hurts to watch people continually drag out that argument. There are literally dozens of factors that go into each win, and each loss. Avery is not, never was, and never will be a game breaker. With all the coaches, GMs, and players in this league who don’t want Avery on their team, and all of the people with legitimate Hockey knowledge who neglect to stick up for him, why is it that Rangers fans are the only people in the hockey world that can see that he is such a valuable piece to the winning puzzle? Like somehow everybody else is missing something that makes Avery so essential to winning. Its a fucking joke. He does not put this team over the top. Does he have value? Sure. Is he crucial to the success of this team? No fucking way. If this team can’t win without him, there’s something else wrong besides him not being in the lineup. If Sean Avery is what this team needs, there’s something seriously fucking wrong with the makeup of this team.
No, you are seriously wrong. Avery’s 6-9 minutes of play are THE ONLY REASON that we had that big win streak, even though it started 2 games before he came in. He has a certain je ne sais pas that makes it rain goals. Him, all him.
In all seriousness though, I said the other day that the threat of the AHL and of strings of healthy scratches seems to light the fire under Avery enough for him to focus and play smarter. Unfortunately that play plateaus pretty quickly, so if we are to get the most out of him we need to let him play 5-6 games, then bench him for 2-3.
I have been pretty vocal about Avery not fitting on the team anymore, but he IS better than EC and the jury is still out on Rupp.
Biron in net. Rupp in, Torts mum on who sits.
