Remember all the trade Gaborik posts from last year?
Remember all those trade Gaborik posts and threads from last season? Well, where you all at now? Hes been the most consistent and best forward on this team all season long.
Hes now tied for the league lead in goals with Jonathan Toews (20) after just 32 games, which is also the highest GPG average as well (.625) and is also on pace for 51 goals.
So..heres your plate of crow. Enjoy.

how about all the guys that gave up on MDZ? the same people that wanted to get rid of MDZ and Gabby are the ones that want to get rid of Dubi now
if I could have gotten a fair offer for MDZ last year i maybe would have traded him
but i did say he needed more time
glad he is performing at the level we knew he could

some people just want to teee rade all the god damn time
Gaborik obviously had some problems last year, but to want to trade the guy that was so good in his first year here was ridiculous.
MDZ just turned 21 for shit’s sake. Its like no one remembers why everyone had hard ons when we drafted him.
And now they’ve turned on Dubi of all people. Really? Dubinsky?

None of those people have any perspective…they’re the same clowns come Spring who see the Orioles start out to an 8-1 start in April and think they’re all of a sudden a contender; but if they had gone 8-1 in July when their winning % was .350 they wouldn’t even of noticed.
they were stupid

almost everyone wanted to trade MDZ
Now you see the upside he brings? When healthy, a line up of this:
Staal-Girardi
McDonagh-Sauer
MDZ-Eminger/Stralman/Woywitka/Erixon
…..will be a dominate defense core for this season. Just wait til next season when Tim Erixon has a full professional year under his belt, give him until the middle of the year just like we did to McD, and he will be good, next year he will be even better.
Proudly suffering as a Ranger fan.

Suddenly I hear Sean William Scott telling The Rock “look at the little birdie, Ca-Caw, Ca-Caw!!”
I was really down on MDZ, and he has shut me up…proudly, I am silenced (well, almost). Gabby wasn’t going anywhere, and if anything, I’ve been trying to suggest getting this team another sniper on a second unit (Bobby Ryan??) to lighten his load, so that teams don’t just key in on Gabby’s line.

seriously, the man had 22 goals last year, most of them in 5 games, why wouldn’t he be talked about for trade? just like Ryan is now. this is a cap league and teams can’t be having players that don’t play up to their $$ especially the better players on the team. the injury factor with Gaby was a major concern as well. be happy he’s here, he’s healthy, and playing great. and if I can send MDZ and Dubi (my 2nd favorite player on the Rangers) to get Suter or Weber then I don’t even think twice.

+1
Gabby was a mess last year. I don’t remember so much trade talk as more just general discontent with his play, and rightfully so. Saying Gaborik sucked last year doesn’t mean you eat crow, it means you were right, he sucked last year, and now he has reverted back to the nasty Gabby of old. Doesn’t change his suckage last year.
Though I didn’t call for the trades last year, none of the players mentioned are untouchable. Lets stop acting like Del Zotto is Leetch, and recognize that if the right trade comes along, you move ’em.
That said, I’ve noticed that there is a ridiculous need on this site to rub shit in, say “I told you so”, and force others to ‘eat crow’. I don’t understand it – is this high school?
People who called MDZ a bust would certainly be respected if they admitted they were wrong, but whats the point in trying to make a bunch of people feel stupid for talking about trades they thought would make the team better? Does it make you feel better about yourself?
thank you. I have admitted that MDZ has played well but he did commit 2 major gaffes within 7 minutes last night and was saved by Biron and everyone gives him first star. Really? Not Dubi. Not Biron. Not Stralman who was great last night. And I agree about the ‘attitude." We’re all Ranger fans and if giving perspective is not welcome here then just tell me. I go to 25 games a year plus playoffs. No one has to tell me how to be a fan and have rose-colored glasses all the time.

well said. The pendulum is swinging too far in the other direction. The push back from all the “trade MDZ” talk last year, has caused people to shoot too far in the other direction – he’s still making mistakes, and he still has plenty of developing to do. That’s not to detract from how well he’s been playing, but people have to find a middle ground. Like Torts says, don’t get too high, don’t get too low… same should apply to our expectations of players. MDZ has been great recently, but he isn’t all of a sudden infallible.
But the bottom line is, like you said, we’re all Ranger fans here. There’s no reason for the “told you so” attitude. Let’s just all rejoice in the successes of our favorite team.
you are dead on in this post. I agree 100%. I have watched way too much hockey to know when mistakes are made. Dubi had a couple of beauties too that did not result in goals, thank God.

agree somewhat, but......
There is a tendency among sports fans—it’s not just on this site—to rub things in….but in the case of Gabby there is some justification in reminding people of how completely Gaborik had been written off last year. I don’t have enough time to waste going back through last season’s posts, but I’d say the comments relating to Gabby were overwhelmingly negative, suggesting that his skills had withered away overnight and that he should be traded for whatever B-list package of players Sather could scrounge up.
With Gabby ripping it up right now some people should be reminded of how quickly they gave up on one of hockey’s pre-eminent offensive talents.

i totally hear you… but like I replied to Richter1994, I just think fans need to find a middle ground, the ones you speak of that suggested Gabby’s skills had withered away, right along with the ones who suggest Del Zotto is the next Leetch.
Don’t get too high, or too low on players.
Then there’s the problem of just lumping together all of the people who criticized Gaborik’s game last year into one group of looney’s who thought his career was over and we needed to dump him. There were a lot of people criticizing Gabby last year to varying degrees, not all of us wanted him dumped. And honestly, given his season, much of the criticism was warranted, though not the kind that suggested dumping him. Just as some criticisms of Dubi, MDZ, etc… are valid at times.
I just think overall, that tendency you mention creates this “us vs. them” mentality, which we don’t need on this site.
Guilty as charged. What’s my sentence?

i'm convinced most of the 'trade this guy now' posters are actually just phil esposito using pseudonyms and reliving his days as rangers gm

Gaborik was fucking horrific last year
so excuse people for wanting their huge contract supertstar to score more then 22 goals. This is a pointless post. Everybody knew he was injured last year, didn’t make it any less frustrating. I doubt there were Ranger fans that were rooting for Gabby to fail so they could be right. Pointless post.
Gaborik was bad last year and still nearly led the team in goals and points...
Think about that for a second.

Also, I love dubinsky,
but it isn’t completely unimaginable for people to be less then enthralled with him. Dubinsky came up a similar prospect to Anisimov, imo, big body, very good skater, play making abilities, but Duby has pretty much plateaued over his time in the NHL offensively, he plays a perimeter game but we have all seen him decide to make a play and make something happen, but these moments are so few and far between it becomes frustrating. Anisimov in about half the time has already gained some confidence and made huge strides offensively. Duby hasn’t, although of course he is an excellent defensive player and penalty killer, but i think people just feel like there is so much more untapped offensive potential with Duby and they get tired of waiting for it to come together.

why play hurt in NYC?
Gabby’s return to form this year has to do with how healthy he is….the guy suffered a separated shoulder in the first game he played last year, and then later suffered a concussion. Even Torts said publicly that Gabby had played 2-3 games while suffering from the symptoms of post-concussion syndrome before taking a few games off to heal up, and that this supposedly fragile player didn’t even admit to being concussed at first.
Gaborik toughed it out last year, playing hurt and banged up for much of the year—and as a reward he got vilified by his own fan base, who turned on him because he didn’t duplicate the offensive success of his first season in the Blueshirt. He’s a classic example of why playing hurt as an athlete in NY is a risky proposition. Fans play both sides of the fence on this issue—hammering players for not playing hurt while also disparaging the performance of banged-up players who are trying to play through the pain of their injuries.

We should all be reminded
That clamoring for trades and demanding people’s heads is a rather silly practice that does little more than frustrate and entertain us.
I for one am glad that I will not be eating any crow. Last guy I saw eat a crow got really sick (Frank Reynolds).

Most players have down years...
there would be 300 blockbuster trades a year if a player was traded for a down year. Think about it for a second.
Thats why you remain patient. There were people saying the guy “lost it” last year. As if his talent vanished overnight. Clearly not the case.

Can we stil trade Gaboricks four a draft pik?!
No joke, when I was in middle school my room was decorated with all kinds hockey memorabilia. Dave LeNeveu and the rest of the Big Red were the only non NHLers represented. I had a ridiculous amount of rangers decoration… Gaborik was the only non ranger who had a poster on my wall. He’s been one of my favorite players, and I was absolutely thrilled when the ranger signed him. His absurd mix of quickness and shooting ability give him an unbelievably high ceiling, so anyone who was trying to trade him last year was way too quick to jump the bandwagon.
That being said, it’s never too soon to disassemble the team for draft picks. MOAR DRAFT PICKS!!!!!!!!!
here's a theory
look at what the minnesota wild are doing in the west. now look at what the rangers and gaborik are doing. what do they have in common? maybe losing a friend is motivating the team and in our case a player.
