Blueshirt Banter Discussion: What Would Your New York Rangers' Resolutions Be?

SUNRISE, FL - DECEMBER 30: Brandon Dubinsky #17 of the New York Rangers is congratulated by teammates after scoring a second period goal against the Florida Panthers on December 30, 2011 at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. (Photo by Joel Auerbach/Getty Images)

With 2011 drawing to a close tonight the New York Rangers will end the year either in first place in the Eastern Conference or second (depending on the Boston Bruins result later tonight).

But while it's still 2011 and everyone is scribbling their new year's resolutions down, why don't we see what type of resolutions you would make for this New York Rangers team.

Do you want another goal scorer (Bobby Ryan)? Do you want another veteran defenseman aded to the mix? Do you want the Rangers to stay put and do nothing aside from getting healthy?

It's hard to want to change a team too much while the unit is so hot. But you can certianly say that aside from the personnel move options, there are other resolutions to be made.

You can also resolve to fix the power play. Find some consistency with the minutes given to all three defensive pairings or even keeping up the current pace of ratio of games Henrik Lundqvist and Martin Biron play.

So go ahead guys. What are some of your resolutions?

Powerplay? meh. Veteran defenseman? Why not just bring back Redden. A great goal scorer? Messier looked pretty good today; we can put him back on the team.

I think winning the cup will suffice as far as resolutions go.

Take it to the net and keep jamming and jamming until somebody comes on you.

The only trade I’d want to see is if we could package something like WW, MZA, and a pick/prospect for a Brad Boyes type player. That I’d be okay with.

Someone like that would round out the team perfectly.

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

never should have let him go in the first place.

He’s so consistent. He would.be the perfect addition. Veteran that can score

Once healthy this team has just about the perfect make-up you could ask for. Trading for anybody at this point I think is the wrong decision unless it’s to upgrade a player somewhere on the roster. I really don’t see any weaknesses in the line-up. Only possibilities I see would be to get a pure scoring winger (if WW doesn’t play consistent and score some points) and put them on the 2nd or 3rd line. I’d play Mitchell over Feds at this point since Feds seems to have lost a step and isn’t playing consistent defensive hockey.

I think fixing the PP is a given on anybody’s list at this point. Regardless of where our PP stands percentage-wise in the league, this team possesses too much talent along with guys who are scrappy rebound hunters to have a poor PP. It’s a combination of poor coaching, poor execution, and improper unit composition.

The PP needs to get more size at the net. AA, Boyle, Dubinsky, hell put fucking Rupp there. 2nd, the puck needs to get put on net more to go with that traffic. When I see MDZ, Richards, and Gaborik on the perimeter, there’s just too much skill and speed for them not to be able to find ways to cycle the puck and find shooting lanes. No excuse.

Lastly, our zone entry is horrible. Every PP seems to deteriorate into them practicing how to throw the puck around the boards, and then, while outnumbering the other team, finding a way to lose a battle along the boards as the PK unit clears it. I think a lot of the trouble stems from not making a decision what to do with the puck until the other team does. For example, a guy wants to carry the puck in yet the other team is standing up at the blue line, so at the last minute the puck is dumped in while the rest of the PP has no momentum going into the zone. If it’s being dumped in, make that decision early, and cross-dump it into a corner with 2 guys going hard after it.

by Caerid11 on Dec 31, 2011 8:43 PM EST reply actions

I couldn’t agree with the PP assessment more. The Capitals game really cemented it. The first PP, the zone entries looked like they were on instant replay; 3 ineffectual dump-ins, Caps get there first/beat our guys on the boards and clear it down. Another thing they have to do is win that first faceoff. Every time it seems like they have the obligatory faceoff loss and clear down the ice and therefore we’ve lost the chance to get possession in their zone right off the bat. Most other teams with better faceoff guys immediately have possession in our zone and that’s a problem.

I’m not sure about trading for a faceoff guy but someone on the team has to step up in that department (I know Richards is decent on the FO but he can’t be the only one).

Just get Marc Staal and Michael Sauer back 100%

believe me that will do wonders

Is hockey hard? "I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner, and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us, oh yeah did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick? Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

Btw, when the ball drops, so does MSG from Time Warner. So stupid, this is going to permanently alienate a lot of Knicks fans who are already pissed from the lockout.

Hopefully it is resolved ASAP, guess we can watch opponents broadcasts online meantime. Definitely not dropping TWC though.

Happy New Year, Banter Bretheren!

I’m for Ryan, but no other defenseman. Ryan would be “the power-play fix”, and the Rangers would surely stay in first in the conference as he fits this system (it’s the similar system as the Olympic system, and we know how that turned out).

A healthy Staal and Sauer will suffice as the “additional” defensemen we “acquire”. I’m otherwise very proud of this team.

Fix the powerplay, get healthy, find some balance in scoring, and have everyone else in the Atlantic Division start playing like shit so we can keep on rolling.

If I could only get one thing back? I’d probably ask for Staalsy.

we dont need any more defensemen we will be getting back staal amd sauer and then some good capable guys who filled in well wll be sitting out we have enought backup but getting prospal back wouldnt be a bad idea but i wouldnt send too much to the jackets for him but he would fit nice being a vet the guys like him and with EC no comment and wolski if he can stay healthy we might need a guy like prosps

a shout out to stuuuuuu bickel like his toughness and could turn into another sauer would be a nice fifth or sixth guy in the lineup

I think the Rangers are handling my team resolutions better than I could come up with. (Except maybe switching out Sam Rosen for Granny Callahan on the broadcasts?)

For something less intense, I’d like to see more fun nicknames for lines and defense pairings. I think the Carl Hagelin, Ryan Callahan, and Brad Richards line should be the CaRB line…because this gives the team energy. ;)

by dim3rd on Jan 2, 2012 12:40 AM EST reply actions

Unless you can only use last names, in which CaRB turns into CHaR (Callahan, Hagelin, and Richards). Burn, baby; burn!
