A Day in the Life of Garth Snow
Garth Snow, the General Manager of the New York Islanders, has a very difficult job. His team has had terrible luck with injuries all season long and they are currently about one step away from holding open try-outs for goaltenders. Rick DiPietro, or 'DP' as he is referred to by the 12 New York Islanders fans in existence, managed to get his face crushed by the left fist of Brent Johnson and is out with a knee injury and facial fractures. Kevin Poulin was injured during warm-ups and we all know about Evgeni Nabokov's hang-up heard 'round the hockey world (and subsequent suspension). The Islanders' solution to the goalie crisis was acquiring former New York Ranger first round pick Al Montoya from the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a sixth round pick. Join me for a Friday afternoon cartoon special after the jump...
All of this began to make me wonder, what is a day in the life like Garth Snow like? I think it might go something like this:

If someone can tell me where Snow’s frown came from (middle panel) you get a free beer. And if you are under 21 you get an old shoe.

The funny thing is that frown looks more anatomically correct on Snow than on Nabby.
Also, why is Montoya practicing “Blue Steel”?

I think that NYI has a lot of trouble landing free agents because teams recognize they are not a contender. They perform with $18,040,069 in cap space, and that includes the cap hits of two players that are bought out and not playing with the team (Yashin $4.75mill, Witt $1.33mill). I really respect GMs that make it work when they don’t have the luxury of spending oceans of money on FAs and for locking up their talent. I don’t think you can say Garth Snow has ‘made it work’ but he has a very tough job.
Their three highest-paid players are DiPietro $4.5mill, Streit $4.1mill, and Tavares $3.75mill (if you don’t count Yashin’s cap hit). I don’t envy the man, that is what I am trying to get at here.

Maybe they should bring in Mike Dunham as GM
He bailed out Snow against LSSU in 1993, maybe he could work that magic again. Anyone else remember that one?
Or bring in Dunham to go in goal. Maybe just a scarecrow. A scarecrow might be better than Dunham.

Sounds like they would need Dunham and a time machine (No I never saw the game, I was seven years old in 1993).

I figured as much. It was a GREAT game if you ever find it online check it out. 1993 NCAA final. Paul Kariya was a freshman at Maine, and there’s a great cast NHL nobodies as well.

I remember that game. The Ferraro twins were on that team, I went to Maine for hockey camp a few years later and they had us watch that video of that season, that team went 42-1-2, insane record.

Or bring in Dunham to go in goal
He did play goal for the Islanders. He is their goalie coach now, and the other night when the Isles didnt have a back-up there was talk of whether he would have to dress as back-up. Fortunately for him, that JAckalope kid Martin made it to the game by the third period so Dunham didnt have to make another non-triumphant return to the Isles net.

Cartoons...
As long as you have good material/storyline/voice-overs, it doesn’t matter what the actual characters look like… South Park has been proving this for years.

Wang couldn't find a better general manager?
Snow was a backup goaltender for the club, he made a good move by getting rid of Neil Smith before he could do any damage, but Snow was not the way to go. Now I would have given the job to Ziggy Palffy, what could go wrong there?
