Saturday Morning Cartoon: Drury Gallery Part 2

A week has passed and hopefully that was enough time for you to digest Saturday Morning Cartoon: Drury Gallery Part 1. It seems like the favorite from the first gallery was 'Sea Captain Drury'. He looks dapper doesn't he? I think it is the corn cob pipe, there is also so much hope and promise in his eyes... that is because the photo was taken during the press conference that featured the newly-signed Chris Drury and Scott Gomez wearing their jerseys in 2007. What a dark day in New York Rangers history that was.

It is now time to present you with the second part of the 'Chris Drury Gallery', at the end of the gallery I will put up a link to the first gallery and a poll so we can determine which Drury is Blueshirt Banter's favorite, because it clearly isn't the one that has a 'C' on his jersey and plays for the New York Rangers. Join me for the gallery after the jump...

Captain Chris Sparrow (just in time for the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie)...

...And finally, just for Jim, Captain James Tiberius Drury.

I hope you guys enjoyed these as much as I enjoyed making them for you. I want to point out (again) that this idea was launches and all of the images were put together before the news of Chris Drury's injury, my intent was not to kick a man while he is down, especially the team's captain. In case you guys haven't heard the current update on Drury is that it is his left knee that is getting worked on and he will be out for six weeks. All of that being said, I think humor is a wonderful thing, and above all things it is a great stress reliever. I think it is safe to say that we can all do with a little stress relief regarding Chris Drury and his role on the Rangers.

All that is left now is to crown a champion, which Drury is your favorite? (Chris Drury Gallery Part 1 for the first three Drurys)

I liked all of them, but I’m a big fan of Peanut Butter Capt’n Crunch so I dug that one. But also being a Trekker, I like the Captain Kirk one as well. To me, Drury looks like Adam LaPaglia…

Some news on the day for you, to go along with the cartoon.
NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
Eminger to return to #NYR lineup tomorrow. Del Zotto will be scratched.

    NYDNRangers Jesse Spector
    New #NYR lines: Avery-Anisimov-Stepan, Dubinsky-Prospal-Gaborik, Wolski-Boyle-Callahan, Zuccarello-Christensen-Prust

Stepan is moving to the wing.

AGrossRecord Andrew Gross
Torts says he’s no longer willing to live with the defensive risk of having a Prospal-Christensen-Gaborik line.

Torts also said that Eminger has to show ‘bite’ in his game to stay in the lineup.

In case any were wondering

My boy Alex Kovalev scored two goals and an assist today to single handedly pull the Sens out of the Abyss. If there was ever a time to make a splash and get this guy, it would be now. Just letting you guys know.

by The Last Shall Become First on Feb 12, 2011 8:49 PM EST reply actions

I'm just letting you guys know...

One was an empty net goal, the other was one of the flukiest, ugliest goals I have ever seen. It deflected off of at least 2, possibly 3 people before it went into the net.

This was also against the Edmonton Oilers. Need I say more?

Just letting you know 8k...

Khabibulin is in net for the Oilers. And scoring goals, especially empty-net goals, against the Oilers is like hitting a pinata without a blindfold on, and bragging about it.

One More Thing

Jim wrote an article about the book “100 Ranger Greats” and I suggest you read it. Kovalev was ranked No. 40 in that book among some of the greatest Rangers of all time and when you have children you are going to be telling them how you got to see the great Alex Kovalev play for the Rangers in the Garden.

by The Last Shall Become First on Feb 12, 2011 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

You are always entitled to your opinion here at Blueshirt Banter, but I am likewise entitled to mine. In my opinion Alex Kovalev doesn’t have anything left in the tank and would offer little, if anything, to this team. He wouldn’t fit in here, he wouldn’t work in Torts’ system, and he isn’t producing like he could in 1994. I recognize what he did for the team in 1994, but I wouldn’t bring Kovalev back, just like I wouldn’t want an old Brian Leetch or Zubov. I am sorry our talk got so heated and uncomfortable last night but I think it is because you can’t see beyond your admiration and love of Kovalev. He is 37 years old now, he has 26 points in 50 games, I am sure he still has a great wrist shot but that might be all he has left.

I understand where your coming from and respect your opinion

But I still feel he has a little gas left in the tank. He’s never going to have a season like he did in 2000-01, but the fire still burns and he will help whatever team that does take the chance on him at the deadline. 26 points may not seem like alot but when you compare him to our useless captain 13-13-26 beats 0-4-4 any day of the week.

by The Last Shall Become First on Feb 12, 2011 9:41 PM EST up reply actions

Does he have something to offer a team making a push for the playoffs? He might, he might play like a man possessed knowing he can play playoff hockey again. I just don’t see him landing in New York in a trade, he just wouldn’t fit under Torts’ system. Because of that I don’t think there will be a third time around with Kovalev in NYC, and really I don’t think there should be.

you can’t compare drury and kovalev because they are two fundamentally different players and kovalev numbers look good compared to drury but compared to other goal scoring wingers his numbers are sub par at best. You can’t bring players because of what they did SEVENTEEN years ago and expect them to contribute

Not Seventeen years ago

I’m hoping he can return to his 2007-08 form or at least 2008-09 which was pretty good season for him. Can he get along with Torts, absolutely, after all he somehow managed to earn a Stanley Cup while playing under Torts older brother Mike Keenan

by The Last Shall Become First on Feb 12, 2011 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

Not really throwing Kovalev under the bus by the way, I am stating fact. His production is down and he has a well-known attitude problem. It’s not throwing a guy under the bus if you don’t want to give him a third chance when he is 37 years old.

Age Ain't Nothin But a Number

Getting out of Ottawa and playing for the Rangers one last time is just the spark that Kovalev needs. Look when Shanahan came to us in 2006, I believe he also was 37 and we was one of our best players for two seasons. I they are two completely different players, but just because he’s 37 doesn’t mean he can’t be an affective player.

by The Last Shall Become First on Feb 13, 2011 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

I see now that there is no compromise in you, either that or you have a profound understanding of what Alex Kovalev can do if he hypothetically returned to the Rangers. I just don’t see what you are seeing. The year before Shanahan joined the Rangers he had 81 points. I’m done with this talk though, it is getting old fast. Have a nice night.

what you meant to say was your boy Kovalev screwed the Sens again. First he helped them get close to the toilet by playing like crap and then when they could actually get to the number 1 spot he decides to show up.

Hey be fair… we miss the net entirely sometimes too. Other times we manage to put it in the only spot a goaltender can stop it.
