Several Big Trades Around the League

Tomas Kaberle, one of three new Boston Bruins today.

Seems like GMs around the league got mixed up as to what day the trade deadline was, several deals went down today:

The Toronto Maple Leafs trade Tomas Kaberle to Boston for Boston's 1st round pick in 2011, Joe Colborne, and a conditional draft pick. (note: this is Boston's first-round pick, not Toronto's first round pick that Boston still has from the Kessel trade)

Bob McKenzie
Conditional pick in Kaberle deal: 2nd rounder in 2012 if Kaberle re-signs in BOS or BOS makes Cup final.

Join me for more after the jump...

Star-divide

The Boston Bruins also traded Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart to the Atlanta Thrashers for Rich Peverley and Boris Valabik. This trade frees up the necessary cap space to bring on Kaberle. Peverley's cap hit is $1.325mill, Valabik's is $762,500 but it is unlikely that he will play with the big club, he is an RFA at the end of the year. The combined salary cap of Wheeler and Stuart is $3.875mill.

The Avalanche traded Craig Anderson to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Brian Elliott.

Last night some less significant trades went down: Senators traded Jarkko Ruutu to the Ducks for their 2011 6th round pick. Former Ranger Paul Mara was dealt from Anaheim to Montreal in exchange for the Habs' 2011 5th round pick.

Looks like the rumors of Kaberle coming to the Rangers are mercifully over (for now?), we would have had to pay a very high price to get him. In my opinion we dodged a bullet if that was the asking price for Kaberle. The market has been set very high this season, last year so many trades revolved around 2nd round picks, this year it seems like first round picks are being tossed around like confetti.

Stick-lifts to kmp and 8kpower for pointing out the trades in FanShots, thought we should consolidate them all here for discussion.

For those of you who haven't read George's Analysis of Defensemen the Rangers are rumored to be connected to, you should really give it a read.

UPDATE: Two more deals going down.

Derek Joslin to the Hurricanes for future considerations.

Raleigh NC Buzz
Canes acquire Joslin from Sharks: The Carolina Hurricanes have obtained defenseman Derek Joslin from the San Jose...

Ian White has been dealt to the San Jose Sharks for SJ's 2012 2nd round pick.

TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie

Ian White has been told he is now a San Jose Shark.

TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie

SJ 2nd rd pick in 2012 in exchange for Ian White. CAR now has budget space to add another piece.

BREWER TO TAMPA UPDATE:

Defensive D-man Eric Brewer is headed to Tampa Bay for a pick and a prospect. The prospect is reportedly Brock Beukeboom (Beuke's kid for those of you who aren't aware) and a 3rd round pick

Bob McKenzie
STL's Eric Brewer has agreed to waive his NTC to go to TBay. Deal will be completed shortly.
Darren Dreger
Brewer to TB for a pick and a prospect. No roster players

More updates as they become available...

Not an unfair thing to assume, not everyone can develop late like Tim Thomas and keep it up. I still think Anderson is better than Elliott. The only edge Elliott has is that he is 25 years old. Colorado gets to see what he can do and think about hanging on to him. There is the potential for this one to be a bust is all I am saying. If Anderson finds his game and plays like he did last year Colorado will be sorry they let him go. Of course Anderson is an UFA at the end of the year… and he certainly won’t be dragging the Senators into the playoffs this year.

Messier isn't qualified to manage yet

But I guess how many NHL GM’s have strong qualifications

How many Cashman, Eppstein, Alderson, etc are there in the NHL?

If Yzerman, Hull and Nieuwendyk can do it

So can Mess. I mean Garth fucking Snow is a GM for God’s sake

but how many ex-players have been really successful at it

Yeah Garth Snow isn't a good example

And those other guys all studied and worked significantly in managerial capacities before becoming GMs. Even then Hull was fired from managing the Stars to be replaced by Nieuwendyk.

Messier so far has only dabbled in management

here's the thing though......

a losing franschise that has been at the bottom of the lot for 7 yrs or so……..not responsible for the picks really…..just like Sather isn’t…….but he looks like a friggin genious.

On my way to Newark right now, NJTransit dont let me down!

Jack and joke for the train ride in and double fisting bud lights for the next 5 hours.. Top it off with a Rangers shoot out win and possible action from my wife (if I don’t embarrass her at the game) and its going to be a good night! I’ll be in Section 16 Row 15 screaming my balls off.

We can not afford to give the Devils any more points

So a big NO to the shoot out win, this needs to be a regulation win

all of that sounds awesome....

but NO to shootout wins……we need to fucking bury them in regulation…NEVER hope for an OT/SO win….especially not in conference games.

Based on the current points pct

The Sabres and Canes are on pace for 88 points. Just to get to 88 points the Devils need to win 76% of their remaining points. The most regulation losses they can suffer is 6 and the least amount of wins they can get is 13. In other words their record has to be somewhere in between a 13-0-12 or 19-6-0 run. The Flyers have the best point pct over the course of the entire season and they’re at around 71%.

i might just be mistaken...

but the Anderson for Elliot trade seems a little backwards?

You are correct! I have to fix that. Was updating it as fast as I could, was bound to make some mistakes. Thanks Brutality.

the floodgates have opened.

awesome move to TBL really. their D is mediocre at best, and brewer helps A LOT.

id honestly like to sell off a few of our parts for picks. i honestly think a guy like christensen could go for a 3rd. same as eminger maybe? either way get some value for them.

Is worth about a bag of pucks and some stick tape to another team

no goals

Another one goal lose, just like I been predicting. No goals no creativity and only 16 shots on goal. Its painful to watch little Zuccarello dump and chase with no chance in hell of retreting the puck. This stupid coach hes gat to know that the best deffanse in the world is only goin to get you a nothing to nothing scoar. Let the players play their game. “One fits all” system dose not work.
