NHL Trade Deadline 2011 Open Thread II: Dvorak On The Move Again

Good Morning Everyone:

Here is your second open thread of the day. There will be a new thread at the top of every hour, with updated information from the previous hour.

Let's try and avoid all the Fan Posts and Fan Shots about trades, so we can keep all the information to the threads.

Remember, a full recap of the day's events and more tonight on Blueshirt Banter Radio at 8 PM

Have at it kids.....

Update by Joe Fortunato:

10:40: Radek Dvorak is on the move again, getting traded from Florida to Atlanta for Niclas Bergfors. Lou Lamoriello deserves some credit here for trading Bergfors high (for Ilya Kovalchuk) since he's now being moved for Dvorak. Want to know the other play in this deal? Patrick Rissmiller. He's going to the Panthers.

More when we have it guys. The opening hours of the deadline are always slow.

Richards rumor of the hour: Seems like Dallas won't budge, and multiple twitter sources are saying that too many roster players would have to go back to the Stars to get anything done. It seems that John Tortorella and Glen Sather agree that Richards is too expensive right now.

But time can change that. On deadline day, it usually does.

Don’t get the Dvorak move at all.

In what way? That Atlanta paid out the ass to get him? Yeah, I agree.

Said it in the last thread; nice to see Atlanta doing something productive with the centerpiece of the kovalchuk deal /snickers

by Caerid112 on Feb 28, 2011 11:06 AM EST up reply actions

More of it just seems there trading the same player Dvorak hasn’t been a good goal scorer since 31 with us, And that was a long time ago.

by Ed B 96 on Feb 28, 2011 11:06 AM EST up reply actions

Out the ass?

They did trade away Rissmiller as a piece right?

by louielounz1 on Feb 28, 2011 11:07 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah Dvorak and a 5th for Bergfors and Rissmiller.

by Ed B 96 on Feb 28, 2011 11:08 AM EST up reply actions

True, can’t measure how big a negative Rissmiller is.

I am starting to get this gut feeling that by tomorrow morning, Brandon will have written a “Behind the Scenes” post on the Richards trade. It’s too early in the day for so much “price is too high” talk

that move is one of the best by anyone so far in my opinion in one game you got a taste of what he brings to the powerplay.

by Ed B 96 on Feb 28, 2011 11:07 AM EST up reply actions

What does the headline say

“Panthers trade fifth string powerplay specialist to the Rangers for AHL player and middle round pick”

It’s a good trade for both sides, but not a blockbuster deal.

by dar9898 on Feb 28, 2011 11:08 AM EST up reply actions

Dosn’t have to be a blockbuster to make a big diff, I love his shot so im really biased on it.

by Ed B 96 on Feb 28, 2011 11:10 AM EST up reply actions

Yes

He has a great slapshot from the point on the power play. But he was still the Panther’s fifth man on defense. And he brought back only a minor leaguer and middle round draft pick. The trade was a far cry from Stewart, Johnson, Shattenkirk, etc.

by dar9898 on Feb 28, 2011 11:11 AM EST up reply actions

True can’t really argue that point though with us he can just be a 3rd or 4th D man and a PP specialist.

by Ed B 96 on Feb 28, 2011 11:14 AM EST up reply actions

He shouldn’t be getting minutes at ES over Staal, Girardi, McDonagh or Sauer. So he’s still 5th.

by dar9898 on Feb 28, 2011 11:15 AM EST up reply actions

one thing i like about Torts is it will matter who is playing better that given game is who gets the minutes. and yeah i was talking till Staal comes back.

Why bother with Richards?

For 18 games, why give up anything? Hopefully Sather keeps his trade track record solid and avoids this one. Stastny though…

Manning lobs it, Burress alone, touchdown New York!

Someone should just give Sather roofies, keep him knocked out until 3, we’d be better off.

They should call them groundies.

Manning lobs it, Burress alone, touchdown New York!
For the empty net, Mark Messier... do you believe it?! Do you believe it?! He said we will win game 6 - he has just picked up the hat trick!

Girardi/1st/Grachev and…something, for Semin/Steckel.

Just throwing some Eklund at the wall folks, this isn’t serious.

We should also focus on cutting the dead weight. If Snow is asking for a 2nd for Konopka, Slats can get a third or fourth out of EC for sure.

by The Blue Seats on Feb 28, 2011 11:43 AM EST reply actions

if snow could get a 2nd for konopka we could get 2 1s and an all star for EC

RT @GMillerTSN Detroit close to signing G Jimmy Howard to contract extension. Was scheduled to be UFA.

by Michael Gleich on Feb 28, 2011 11:43 AM EST reply actions

This Richards stuff is ridiculous

We’ve talked about this a lot regarding the Johan Santana trade – you’re talking about trading young, cheap, talented players for the right to sign Richards to the huge extension he’s reportedly asking for from Dallas. If he really wants to play in NY, let him sign here as a free agent in the summer. The rumored asking price is insane. I’d love to have him on the Rangers, but overpaying makes no sense.

by JoshNY on Feb 28, 2011 11:44 AM EST reply actions

Got to give to get

I agree price is insane but if you do get him today its not going to be for a mid level prospect and a 7th.

by Ed B 96 on Feb 28, 2011 11:45 AM EST up reply actions

The Mets gave up 4 grade B prospects for Johan. If the Stars are willing to take Wiese, Kolarak, Gilroy and a 2nd rounder for Richards, I would make that deal.

by caonenine on Feb 28, 2011 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

Right, right

I’m not saying it’s EXACTLY the same situation, I’m saying that the cost should be lower because you’re getting 1/3 of a season of the guy (when he’s coming off a concussion), plus the right to pay him a lot of money before anyone else can.

by JoshNY on Feb 28, 2011 12:56 PM EST up reply actions

Whole lotta

Hype so far. Have about 3 hours left but this year looks like a lot less action than last years deadline.

Vast majority of trades generally come after noon ET at the deadline. Nearly 90% of deals were in final three hours last year.

Think they’re worried about Green’s health too.

by Caerid112 on Feb 28, 2011 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

That =

The trade for McCabe, I think

by louielounz1 on Feb 28, 2011 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

Although

McCabe is better than Wideman so we win

by louielounz1 on Feb 28, 2011 11:47 AM EST up reply actions

Well not really

But McCabe does play more on the PP. He has that. Wideman is a better player overall and plays much tougher minutes than McCabe.

by dar9898 on Feb 28, 2011 11:51 AM EST up reply actions

Scratch that

Wideman is/was also the primary PP guy for Florida

by dar9898 on Feb 28, 2011 11:52 AM EST up reply actions

19 PP points, also a -26 on a team with Vokoun…

by Caerid112 on Feb 28, 2011 11:53 AM EST up reply actions

You lost me at +/-

With no context. Vokoun is good, not great. He’s better in fantasy than in real life so I don’t see how his presence should relate to the points or +/- for a player

by dar9898 on Feb 28, 2011 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

His 9 goals tells me you're right

His -24 tells me about the overall player stuff, your wrong lol

by louielounz1 on Feb 28, 2011 11:54 AM EST up reply actions

Save% with McCabe on the ice .930
Save% with Wideman on the ice .886

I wouldn’t classify Wideman as certainly better, he’s probably a tick better, which means Hasuwirth should be a tick better than Kennedy. I know nothing about him, so dunno if that’s true.

Jimmy Howard’s contract extension is two years at $2.25M. Technically, the deal is not quite done, but no problems anticipated..

Draft class?

How strong is the draft class this year? I mean is stocking up on picks the best move for a team like FL or more of a way to parley picks into other acquisitions on draft day?

by Mike_from_NNJ on Feb 28, 2011 11:54 AM EST reply actions

can never really tell.

Depends how players develop can’t miss players miss all the time and then guys like Lundqvist (7th) and Stepan (3rd) turn out to be very good.

by Ed B 96 on Feb 28, 2011 11:56 AM EST up reply actions

I keep reading that the draft from pick 6 to 26 is a crap shoot, then from rounds 2 and 3 players its totally up in the air.

Which probably means there are a few Callahan’s out there to be had in the fourth round

Actually

I think Joe N. Could easily make the move, I don’t think they make the playoffs especially with trading away Neal.

Goligoski was a product of playing with Crosby and along side Letang, IMO
