So it looks like Henrik

Is playing every game from here on out unless they can sign a reliable backup fast

If this was before 3pm...

we should have made a play for nabakov

by thenyrangers on Feb 28, 2011 6:04 PM EST reply actions

He would have had to reclear waivers, and Detroit had the first chance to grab him if he was back on waivers and they would have claimed him.

by KingHenrik on Feb 28, 2011 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

we gotta do something....

…..I’m nervous now.

Could you guys imagine if he broke his collarbone blocking a Bryan McCabe slapshot from the point during a scrimmage!?!?!?!?!?!?!>?!?!!?!?!??!!?!??!!?

Biron was probably going to get 3-4 starts

Can Hank play the rest? How many back to backs do they have?

by Gabby the Gutless Sniper on Feb 28, 2011 6:21 PM EST via mobile reply actions

3 or 4 more, IIRC.

the problem is not the starts he’s supposed to get. its that he hasn’t started a single game in february while he was healthy!! i wrote a comment about this in a game thread last week. this essentially places hank in the Cam Ward category:

the staff does not think the team can win without their #1 goalie….

so i believe the injury to biron doesn’t change much. hank was not going to get much rest anyhow.

Weekes looks to be in good shape.

Other options; Corey Hirsch, Bob Froese and Glen Healy.

A tired Henrik

Does this mean Henrik is going to be tired again once the playoffs start or was the decent back up play from Biron earlier in the year to this point actually going to keep Henrik fresh?

by M-DAVID-V on Feb 28, 2011 6:43 PM EST reply actions

i’d go for option #1…biron didn’t get any real starts since the all star game. all his starts were reactions to bad performances by hank, which were fatigue related. it’s been a funny cycle…

Give him a mic in the booth, and have it connect to someone on the bench

Rangers FTW!

by BleedsRangerBlue on Feb 28, 2011 6:46 PM EST up reply actions

they should just have a laptop on the bench and biron will be there on a webcam telling everyone what to do on shootouts and yell at refs just like he never got hurt.

maybe if we ask the islanders nicely they’ll give us montoya back lol

by lohaus#54 on Feb 28, 2011 7:14 PM EST reply actions

Leighton is in the minors

Philly has him in the AHL at Adirondack. He’s playing well, but I don’t think they’re gonna let him go. They had alot of trouble with the AHL team, fired the coach, sent guys packing. He’s been part of their minor league restoration. Plus, they definalty don’t want to give him to us and see him in the playoffs.

What the hell are they doing in practice?

by Param on Feb 28, 2011 7:17 PM EST reply actions

Conklin?

I think he’s still on waivers.. and he did have a shutout against us earlier this year.

by one-bar on Feb 28, 2011 7:27 PM EST reply actions

he is so bad even though he shut us out earlier this year. the only goalie conklin is better than is mike dunham

by nyrangerfan521 on Feb 28, 2011 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

Leave Dunny out of it!! He was my high school goalie :(

by BigB22 on Feb 28, 2011 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

sorry man, but that dude was brutally bad

by nyrangerfan521 on Feb 28, 2011 7:45 PM EST up reply actions

Dunham didn’t have a 5-hole, he had a garage door.

Let me know how that works out for you . . .

by SimpleManiac on Mar 1, 2011 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

He's not that bad..

Granted, he’s nothing great, but all we need is a veteran back-up for 2-3 games max. While this year hasn’t been his best (keep in mind he is on STL), he had a great year back in 08-09 with Detroit.

I think he’d be a better fit for the remainder of the season than Talbot, given that he’s been in this situation before.

by one-bar on Feb 28, 2011 7:49 PM EST up reply actions

honestly its almost impossible to tell who would be a better fit. seeing how theyd only play 3 games or so its more about being lucky and hoping whoever it is just does what it takes to win those games. alot of young goalies come up with a chip on their shoulder and play well in their 1st couple of games at the NHL level. we have 2 games with ottawa left and they are like an AHL team so i guess whoever the backup is will play against them

by nyrangerfan521 on Feb 28, 2011 7:53 PM EST up reply actions

+1

I agree with the chip on the shoulder and Ottawa. Let’s just hope he can get us a few points in the games he plays.

by one-bar on Feb 28, 2011 8:01 PM EST up reply actions

yeah whoever it is lets just hope they are steady enough to get some points

by nyrangerfan521 on Feb 28, 2011 8:07 PM EST up reply actions

It's a damn shame...

Biron has been a great soldier. I know his 8-6 record doesn’t exactly scream out “great goalie”, but his .923 SV% and 2.13 GAA do. Frankly, this is the most you could possibly ask out of a backup goaltender (+ the shootout advice bonus).

I dunno about the NEED to pick up another backup goaltender given that Biron was only expected to play maybe 3-5 more games as we go down the home stretch to the playoffs sitting in 7th place. However, I will say that it makes me wish that we didn’t trade or otherwise get rid of so many back-up goalies in recent years (Auld, LaBarbara, Montoya and Valiquette to name a few).

I say bring up Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson in the meantime as long as there are no obstacles in the way. Whether you have a positive or negative opinion on him, it is not based on a large sample size (5 NHL games). And he is still only 24. Give him a shot in our back-to-back games in March vs the Sens and the Isles.

Makes sense, kinda like the Johnson/Zaba musical chairs last season

by CrazyRangerFan on Feb 28, 2011 10:05 PM EST up reply actions

Very upsetting, he has been great this year from the Rangers and underutilized. There is little choice now but to roll with Hank as much as we have been, all the games are too important. I hope Talbot gets a start here and there but this puts us in a miserable situation.

Get well soon Biron.

I don’t remember a game where Biron played and thinking afterward, Lundqvist would have done better. Overall, the King is better, but nothing sloppy or no more “shoulda had that” out of Biron then we’ve seen from Henrik.

Let me know how that works out for you . . .
