So tonight during the 3-2 to Buffalo, my father and i were talking about a great many things as far as hockey goes. Half was about our team, and the other half was about what could be done to make the game better and more entertaining to watch.

As far as our beloved team goes, I'm a firm believer that the Rangers are still at LEAST 3 years away from a true cup contender. But in those 3 years we have a lot to look forward too. Many of our currents prospects will most likely make the team. You will see the end of Drury, Avery, McCabe, Prospel, Christensen and most likely Booguard as well. You will see, our current rookies make leaps and bounds in their respective development, and become hopefully the parts we are now actively looking for. A crease clearing, nasty, mean, bruising defense men, a booming shot from the point, a brilliant puck mover, and a legit scoring threat from not only Gaborik but others as well. Dubinsky, Callahan, and Staal will be our leaders on and off the ice. Our defensive core will be one of the most feared, and our offense will be a wrecking ball. Finally our goal tending will be just as it is now, although maybe with a few tweaks. All in all, within the next 3 years you will see this team become one of the most talked about and feared team to play. But we have to deal with the growing pains and possibly missing the playoffs for now.

Now as the rest of the hockey talk went i would like your opinions on some things. When my father and i talked, we talked mainly about the goalies, which i'm sure most of you have talked about in you ramblings between friends, family, or what have ya. He talked about either increasing the size of the net, or shrinking the size of the goalie pads( taking down the width of them now padding or anything). We both agreed that the reduction in pad size would be better, leaving as much ice surface as possible for the players, for the goal scoring in the league. Which brings me to the next subject of the discussion. What would the game be like if the size of the ice was increased. Not to say European size, but something in between what we have now as far as those two ice surfaces go. I believe it would do at least three things for the game: 1) Reduce injuries to players because of more ice surface to move around on 2) Get what is left of the neutral zone trap out of the game, more ice size and not enough players would open up the passing and dangling part of the game. 3) Just like reducing the goalie pads, make it harder for players to block shots increasing the average amount of goals scored in the game.

Whether or not any of you agree with anything i said, i would still like to know what you have to say about either subject.
