Behind the Net reader GeoffBok tracked the passing for the 1st period of the Sens-Rangers game, with some tremendous results.

For all those who have wanted a sample of what our passing looks like for a period, it's worth the click.

The behind the boards play

Is ridiculous on the Rangers side. I knew they cycled the puck a lot but this is eye-opening. I mean look at this chart (Rangers were going from R on defense to L on offense):

I guess they went up the “left” side of the boards a ton in that game because of who was on right defense for Ottawa? Interesting stuff here. Must have taken a ton of time.

The guy who tracked Det-Chicago said it took 18 hours to do the passing charts, but he was doing it by (x,y) coordinates rather than drawing on a tablet. Not sure how much time that method saved.

this is seriously impressive stuff…also really tedious, i don’t think i have the concentration to try and track the rangers passes like this

"Don't look now, but there's one too many people in this room and I think it's you." Groucho Marx

"He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot" Evgeny Nabakov on Garth Snow

"Kovalev would work with Tortorella like a kitty would work in a microwave.

A lot of smoke and desperate clawing at the door. It wouldn’t work. It would just be a big, hot mess." -Dig Deep

George-

It saved a ton of time, and it got faster as the period went along. I plan on doing this for another Rangers game, because I want to see what areas they would utilize against a better team. I’m thinking about going back and doing the New Jersey game, because that’s one game where I can remember they got outplayed for the majority of the game, as opposed to this.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I’m a big Ranger fan, so expect to see more analysis like this focused on the Rangers because it’s easier to spot and track players if I know who they are- Ottawa has so many new guys that I kept thinking “who the heck is Erik Condra?”

Awesome, I’m looking forward to seeing more of it.

Great Stuff

I saw this earlier on BTN… The kicker was I was @ this game as well!

What I particularly liked on the Rangers side was their ability to NOT make stupid passes across the middle in their own zone. That’s the indication of a smart breakout.
