I’ve been saying this… we could sign richards and get him for a cap hit of less than 7, because the cap his the average salary, not the amount in which he gets paid, so theoretically we could get him for a 6 mil cap hit and pay him 8 mil during that season, which is probably the way to go, I’d rather not sign him for more than 4 years, word is he wants in the neighborhood of 5-7 and 5 being the absolute bottom line…

Also I don’t know if you intentionally put Erixon with McD, but I think if anything Erixon would be paired with MDZ if he played this season… After the way Sauer and McD shut down lines this season together, there is nothing that tells me they won’t be pencilled in as a pairing…

Where it gets dicey is playing two young players together like MDZ and Erixon…

I think MDZ needs to be in the line-up for his powerplay prowess, we missed his ability man-up this year and it showed… he also played pretty physical when he wasn’t turning the puck over…

Also we must remember when you have a player like MDZ turnovers will happen, and his defense is going to be a bit shaky but it’s his offense out of the back that earns him his money… ala Mike Green, no way comparing MDZ to Green, but Green is generally a bad defender, but a monster offensively…

I actually don’t think so. We have a butt-ton of young players who will invariably get better, we have cap space that we can open up with a buy out or two, we have a legit chance to get top 10 center, and we have great pieces to make the trades we need. It’s hard for me to say this as a New Yorker, but I’m feeling pretty optimistic

I meant with all of the capgeek posts that have been up (yes I’m guilty of it to) and will continue to go up as the offseason continues

Boyle

i think boyle will ask for more in the 1.5-2 mill range, but I’d love this roster- probs a 95-100 point roster

I would not resign FedEx, which would get the cap room up to $5 million, maybe a little less if Thomas or Grachev make the team instead.

MDZ did exactly what on our power play last year?

The kid showed me nothing in his sophomore year on Broadway. Our pp is so f**ked up it is going to take so much more than MDZ, if he’s even ready to play major minutes, to improve it.

I’m really getting turned off to Brad Richards demands. We so badly need him but we’re gonna get fleeced if we pay him 7.5 for more than 5 years.

you're sadly mistaken

if you think anisimov and boyle will sign for that little. boyle prob wants 2.5 and anisimov is a russian who scored 20 goals. heel want at least 4 but wont get it

by nhl21 on Jun 13, 2011 7:33 PM EDT reply actions

2.5 AND 4? What???

Anisimov is an RFA. He has no power. He will get the same deal Dubi and Cally got 2 years ago. Somewhere between 1.8 and 2.3 mil.

Boyle is a little less predictable though, but 2.5 is still too much. He had one good year, for the first time in his career. Ill be surprised if he gets over 2.

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!

boyle could go either way, youre right but anisimov

i could maybe see 2.3 but i think the fact that hes yound russian talented and has a reasonably high offensive celing makes him likeley to get more than what cally and dubi got

His ceiling is what will cut down on the number of years (unlikely he’ll sign for more than 2), but the dollars won’t come until the boxscore numbers catch up.

arty may be russian...

but he actually only scored 18 goals…and he knows he needs to be better to get his money…he’s said it himself…..even to the extent that that he wants to eventually be like some of the other great russians in the league.

What?? I’ll kill someone if Anisimov gets more then $2.5M and if Boyle gets more then $1.5M.. Anything over $1.5M and BB can leave..

I like BB as a player a lot. He plays selfless and gutsy, and was the difference maker in a lot of games through the middle of the season when a lot of the team didn’t show up to play. He strikes me as a team player, and could buy into Torts/Sathers philosophy, and possibly sign for circa 1.5. I wouldn’t give up on Boyle so easy.

by Free2beljg on Jun 14, 2011 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions

He had 1 good season.. Before this year we all were giving up on him. He was a bum and yes he had a great season but throwing money at a guy like that is the problem. I love him and want him back but on a 1 or 2 year deal around $1.2M.. He proves himself again and then he gets his $$$

If you let him get away, somebody else will pick him up for a slightly higher deal. And that, IMO would be a big mistake. All you’d get back is a 3rd round pick in next year’s draft, so a player that’s a marginal 3rd liner and 4 years away from the NHL if they even make it.

The only thing you changed was adding Richards? I think this is much better then the last post but you could’ve probably just posted this as a comment as you really didn’t do anything. I would be fine with this team although I think we need a little more!
