And the Flyers have entered contract talks with Bryzgalov.

The word on Parise is that it will be a one year deal and he will be an unrestricted free agent July 1, 2012. They still hope to ink him to a long-term deal but I think this is their insurance policy to scare off any potential poachers… and it might very well be because they can’t afford to keep him around long term with the Kovalchuk contract.

It’s almost enough to make me not want Richards. If Parise is going to be on next years market, they shouldn’t do a damn thing this year.

Very good point to raise George. Though we haven’t had the best luck with picking up New Jersey’s UFAs (admittedly Parise is a much different player than Holik and Gomez).

That’s one way to look at it. But as we have already established, if we end up without Drury AND Wolski (any time between now and 1 year from now), after re-signing our RFAs we should have an extra $3-4m kicking around… next year, less Avery and Christensen’s $3m … If our young defenders develop as they should, perhaps trade Girardi and his $3m at some point.

You see where I am going here – we could conceivably have room for both Richards and Parise. We don’t exactly have many RFAs or UFAs coming due next summer that will need new big contracts. Prust and MZA is he steps it up, are the only ones I see us re-signing.

Well, we would have the best first line in the league.

Parise-Richards-Gaborik.

Okay, time to stop dreaming haha.

Agreed haha.

Talk about a player that would be the perfect fit for our team. If he’s an FA next year, give him what he wants for how long he wants.
