Stastny for Anisimov + others

Over the past few days I have seen quite a few comments about Stastny being our plan B and what would be a fair trade. Almost always it starts with Anisimov and most of the time follows with some variation of our 1st rnd  pick, MDZ and a prospect. I've actually seen a trade proposal that including all of those.

I think a trade of just Anisimov might actually be to much and I will tell you why.

One of the biggest Ranger fan traits I have seen over the years is giving up on our prospects too soon. Yet we seem more than willing to grab prospects other teams have given up on without batting an eye.

I did a post on Anisimov a while back. While he is not my favorite player and I agree he needs to improve in some areas, his progress has been right on track and I don't think he has hit his ceiling yet. In that post we saw that his Corsi Rel QoC was the highest amongst centers last year and his points/60 put him with some good company and not that far off from some elite.

But lets look at him directly compared to Stastny since this is what this post is about. I chose to keep this kinda simple since I am no Papa Smurf when it come to stats. So lets look at Corsi Rel QoC and Points/60 as I think this gives a good overall comparison. Obviously there are other areas one could look at but being big, strong, young, cheap, hard worker, good team mate..I don't see where the hole is with AA.

So let's go to the video tape...er stats....

Stastny

Year                       Corsi Rel QoC                  Points per 60

08/09                              0.659                                 1.59

09/10                              0.585                                  2.42

10/11                              0.802                                  1.83

Anisimov

Year                       Corsi Rel QoC                  Points per 60

09/10                             -0.221                                  1.69

10/11                              1.412                                   1.98

Obviously Anisimov was protected his first year but look at what he was asked to do in his 2nd season and how he responded. Sure Stastny is good, but going up against easier competition compared to Anisimov last year and still outscored 2 out of 3 past seasons.

But Bleu Stastny is a playmaker that we so desperately need. Oh Really?

Stastny

Year                       1st Assist per 60

08/09                                 .65

09/10                                 1.4

10/11                                 .54

Anisimov

Year                       1st Assist per 60

09/10                                 .39

10/11                                 .68

Again we see Anisimov of last year out assisting Stastny 2 out 3 past seasons.

Has Stastny put up some great seasons so far in his career? Yeah, but Anisimov's career has barley started and by all accounts he is on the right track. He has all the tools, if he makes another jump like he did last year and nothing points to him not being able to, he will be some player for a long time to come.

And we can not have this conversation without at least touching on salary. Stastny at $6.6mil per for the next 3 seasons and then he will be UFA. You really think he will take less when he hits free agency?  Anisimov should get somewhere in the low $2mil range this contract and if structured right will be a RFA when he exits. You are talking a difference of $4mil over the next few years which could be used to bring another body in. So to me even if you talk about Anisimov for Stastny I see it as Anisimov + the other person we cant afford.

And those who suggest to throw in MDZ, 1st rd pick, prospects, they should have their GM criticizing license revoked for a period of a year or when Anisimov scores 30 goals, which ever comes first.
