Rangers Qualify Callahan, Dubinsky, Boyle, Anisimov, Sauer; Not Gilroy

According to both Jesse Spector and Larry Brooks, the Rangers have sent qualifying offers to all of their current RFA's, but not Matt Gilroy. Gilroy will apparently be testing the market after rejecting an alternate offer from Sather.
According to Jesse Spector, Sather would like to retain Gilroy, but at a much lower price than expected. He will likely test his luck on the market upcoming on July 1st.
@NYDNRangers:
Sather: #NYR would like Gilroy back at lower price. He's sure to test market.
#NYR qualifying offers have been made to Callahan, Dubinsky, Boyle, Anisimov, Sauer. Not Gilroy.
[Note by Jim Schmiedeberg, 06/25/11 3:30 PM EDT Going to jump in here and add a few things]
The Rangers drafted Peter Ceresnak, a D-man from Slovakia. I know nothing about him besides that, but Copper and Blue, the SBNation home for the Edmonton Oilers, has a great profile on him here,
As I am sure you have discussed at great lengths by now, Glen Sather told the media that Grachev wanted out, and Sather had been shopping him for a year, and the Blues were the only taker.
Tonight at 9 PM, a Draft Recap edition of Blueshirt Banter Radio. Jess Rubenstein of The Prospect Park will join us to go over all the picks, and what we can expect. Jess has some interesting thoughts on first rounder J.T. Miller, so you won't want to miss the show. I believe Jess will take your calls as well.

No real surprise on Gilroy, his qualifying offer would be close to $2m, or roughly $1m too much.

Agreed, at that amount of money, it’s not worth qualifying him. Sather did say he would like to keep him, but at a MUCH lower cost.

Yeah you’re most likely right. I for one, wouldn’t like to see Gilroy come back. I believe his time is over as well.

I wouldn’t mind keeping him around as a 7th d-man for about $1m. He looked like he was more comfortable towards the end of the season.

I know that Gilroy’s qualifying offer was $2.3 million. Haven’t found or heard the figures for the other RFA’s
by Bryan Winters on Jun 25, 2011 4:32 PM EDT up reply actions
It was $2.1m, his salary from the 2010-11 season (not his cap hit, his salary)

From NHL.com
Players earning $660,000 or less will be entitled to qualifying offers (QO) at 110% of their prior year’s salary; players earning more than $660,000 and up to $1 million will be entitled to QOs at 105% of prior year’s salary; players earning more than $1 million will be entitled to QO at 100% of their prior year’s salary.

The fact that Grachev “wanted out” makes this move an absolute no-brainer, and casts real doubt on his attitude in general.

Nothing surprising here
just how long until they get signed. Cally and Dubi will expect more than their qualifying of course, boyle possibly as well as he made close to 500,000 last year
Sounds like Sather’s next order of business will be landing Richards.

first order
should be Drury. Get rid of him thorugh retirment or buyout, and Richards can be had. If not, it makes things dicey resigning RFA’s
Drury is a dick. Don’t care how many people think he is a nice guy, blah, blah, blah.
If you can’t play, retire. he will get an insurance check to compemsate him. He is hurting the team by not doing so. That is selfish, not leadership.
And why is Drury a dick?

well...
clearly my guess would be screwing the rangers out of 7.5 mil cap space this summer…making it that much harder to make the deals we will likely try and make come july 1.
i still am of the belief that he could make up the remain money over the next few years with the organization, doing one thing or another, as long as its not “playing” for the team..
as people have been saying….i dont expect him to just totally walk away from the money……but if he can get paid some other way over the next few years….IM SURE he couldnt have spent all the money he’s already “earned” the past few seasons…..DONT CARE how many pizza places he’s opened up.

I want Drury to let the Rangers buy him out, but how is he a dick for collecting what he’s owed? He didn’t screw the Rangers, the Rangers screwed themselves by offering him that contract.
What does leadership have anything to do with a relationship based on a mutually agreed upon contract?
well....
i hope this was more a question for GAThingy….because i’ve already answered the question.

Autographs are worthless in general, but if I already have a messier signed puck, what the f would I want anything from drury?
lol
Just poking a little fun. But fyi, Drury is the greatest Captain to have ever played sports, way better than that hack Messier.

I get it… sorta.
Yes, he’s owed that money, but his end of the bargain is that he can play. If this whole degenerative knee thing is legitimate, and he can’t fulfill his end of the bargain next year and play, then he should call it quits.
If he still believes he can play next year, then I have no problem with what he’s doing. If there’s no chance he can play, then he’s just hamstringing the team for his money (and its the fans that ultimately suffer, cause they can’t ice the best possible team), which is kind of a dick thing to do.
Yes.
If he played out his contract, even though that would suck because he is worthless at this point, you can’t fault him.

it does when
you are being paid to retire. If he claims his condition will prevent him from playing (a degenerative condition lnly gets worse) and he can’t play this year, take your buyout and run your restaurant.
by the way, his injury frced him into retirement, not the Rangers.
4 years @ 7 million
= 28 million. I’d say he’s socked away enough to walk away quietly.
Let me know how that works out for you . . .

Actually I’m hoping his first line of business is to re-sign the Pack Line. Richards, provided he is fully recovered from his concussion, might be a good addition for a couple of years, but I love the Pack Line’s players individually and synergistically.
We’ll see.
I am sad that Gilroy may be packing up, but I do hope this means that he’ll get a fresh start elsewhere, where he’ll (possibly) be able to play every day and to be helped to develop.
i wouldnt expect there to be any problems with getting the pack line signed. he just may wait to sign a couple until sept after they can put drury on LTIR
by nyrangerfan521 on Jun 26, 2011 1:30 AM EDT up reply actions
only problem with that is, if they aren’t signed, they aren’t practicing/playing with the team, and they are not going to let 1 or more players miss the entire preseason to finagle the cap. Its not like bringing someone in on a tryout.
they will be able to sign them in early september so they wont miss much, if any practice or playing time

Glad the kids all got these qualifiers. I honestly think the most difficult to sign will be Boyle, with Dubinsky a close second. The one thing about these guys, they’ve all shown such vast improvement. To me, Sauer’s deal will be interesting…you can’t discount +20. Pretty valuable for a guy who was your 4th, 5th, and 6th defenseman.

I usually agree
But +20 usually means you are a pretty good defenseman. I’m not a big stat guy but I would be willing to bet there aren’t many average +20 defenseman in the league these days.
Adam McQuaid (BOS) was a +30 this year. He’s also one of the few who had a higher on ice sv% than Sauer’s 0.944
That’s not to take away from Sauer, he had a very solid year, but +/- has entirely too many other factors out of a player’s control to be considered anything more than a quick guide.

I agree thats its overrated, and has an absurd amount of factors put into it, but it still tells us something.
+20 means something George.

If the Blueshirts are high enough on Erixon / McIlrath, no need for Gilroy at that price.

Gilroy would be the #7
Why not keep Eminger around then? for 1 mil.

Gilroy is home-grown and is given that advantage I guess.
