Ryan Callahan, Post Drury Era

First and foremost I would like to say that I have the utmost respect for Chris Drury. He never took a shift off, he was fearless blocking shot after shot, and was a good influence on the young guys. And while the offense was never what we thought it would be from him, I believe scored the goal that saved our season. Game 82 it was Chris Drury that gave the Rangers an emotional lift and scored the big goal after the Devils striked first. For that, we thank you. Now, lets turn our attention to Ryan Callahan, hopefully the future captain of the Rangers. Ryan Callahan is everything you want in a player. He scores, has the best work-ethic and he is a leader, especially one who leads by example. Callahan has my personal vote to wear the C on the great Rangers uniforms. Other canidates should be Brandon Dubisnky and Marc Staal. And while I don't think he will get it, I think Brandon Prust should be mentioned. Callahan would be the first homegrown captain the Rangers have had since Brian Leetch. Cally has my vote, who do you guys have?

Personally… I like a more outspoken Captain, which is why I lean towards Dubinsky. I’d be completely cool with Cally getting the C, and I think Staal is better served as an A.

I would be fine with either

But, I believe that you have to have some professionalism when it comes to being a captain. I don’t think Dubs is quite there yet. Think Cally gets the “C” with Staal and Dubs as the “A’s”

Three good choices

Dubi and Cally are the heart and Soul
Staal is the anchor of of our D-core
Anyone would be a wise choice
Question to throw out there… if we get Richards does he get an A??? “if we get him”

by Zesta02 on Jun 29, 2011 1:11 PM EDT reply actions

I think goalies aren’t allowed to wear the C or A but I would like the rangers to make henrik an honorary assistant captain. I believe he his the anchor of this team, this team will only go as far as he goes.

Callahan for sure. Can’t picture anyone else wearing that C.

It's Clearly Callahan

Guy is the heart and soul of our team. I love the leadership Dubinsky showed late int the year, but I’m sure if Callahan was in the lineup, he would have been doing the same things. That being said, the reason Dubisnky probably wasn’t wearing an ‘A’ this year was because of his contract dispute and the fact that he missed camp as a result. I would say Cally as captain, with Staal and Dubinsky as assistants.

by callahanisgod on Jun 29, 2011 1:49 PM EDT reply actions

Great point

Regarding why Dubi didn’t get an A last year. I have a feeling it may be the case again this year.

I would go with the general consencis the it wil be:

Callahan – C
Staal – A
Dubinsky – A

with honorable mentions for Girardi, Richards? & Fedetenko?

by Mike_from_NNJ on Jun 29, 2011 2:41 PM EDT up reply actions

my take

C – Callahan
A – Staal
A – Boyle

by Wake Up Theo on Jun 29, 2011 2:04 PM EDT reply actions

There’s many solid candidates for the A, but I cannot see any arrangement other than Captain Cally and A’s for Staal and Dubinsky.

I listen to Enter Sandman before taking exams. I wear the exact same jersey every Giants game. The Rangers goal song goes off in my head when I achieve small successes in life.

C- Cally
A – Dubi
A – Staal

Thats it :)

Although chances of Prust, Girardi, and even Richards.

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

I 100% agree with Cally wearing the C. But there are a few that can lay claim to the A. I personally would not be against what we did some years back and have a set of As for home and another set for the road

Duby/Staal/Prust/Girardi/Richards (if we get him) all deserve to have letters

by Brian Vranch on Jun 29, 2011 7:07 PM EDT reply actions

Cally deserves it. However, we might see it go to Brad Richards if he signs a long term deal here. It wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen.

Absolute Worst Ranger Fan!!!!!!....yet incredibly realistic and usually correct.

#23 and fittingly, next comes #24 :)

Re: Chris – superb, classy, clutch-playing athlete (i..e not just hockey, but baseball, too, remember?) who represented and led the Rangers as Captain the way a consummate pro should. Good luck, Chris!

As for Ryyyyyaaaaaannnnn Callahan – break out the seam ripper and get the sewing machine warmed up, baby, ‘cause that “A” is comin’ off and the “C” is goin’ on! :)

Cannot wait for 10/27 @ MSG when Cally’s introduced as the 26th Captain in NY Ranger history.

Now all he needs is some of that extra glove padding to put on his skates, shin guards, cup, pants, shoulder pads, elbow pads, helmet w/ a longer visor. Then maybe he’ll have a better chance of being in the lineup for all 82 games like some of his compadres were last season. :)

My hats off to Drury...

That was the right way to go. Now he has the fans’ respect and can play an important role within the organization…if that’s what he wants to do. He can be proud of his career and if he chooses to do so, still has a 3/4 line role at a much cheaper price ($1.5 – 2 mil) for the right team. Hell, if the Vancouver had a healthy Drury and another D-man they’d have the cup.

Now:

C = Cally
A = Staal
A = Dubinsky
