Famous Last Words
These are the last words I have to say
That's why this took so long to write
There will be other words some other day
But that's the story of my life
Billy Joel "Famous Last Words"
As you may or may not have noticed, since the Rangers season came to an end, I've been fading to the background here, and letting Joe ease into the job of running Blueshirt Banter full time. Now the time has come for me to make it official, this will be my last day as Managing Editor of this website.
It has been an extreme pleasure getting to know all of you that have helped make this website what it set out to be, and what it has become: the single best place on the internet to talk about the Rangers, and express your opinions with intelligence, humor, and passion. I've learned far more from you in the two-plus years of this site's existence than you've learned from me, and it has been my honor to be associated with you. We've rarely all shared the same opinion, but I'd like to think we've always respected each other at the end of the day, and been able to weed out those that didn't. This site isn't for everyone, no site is, but I do think that together we made it work, and work well.
I've come to realize the last two years that my passion is not for writing anymore, but for doing radio. It's an outlet for my limited creativity, I love doing it, and will continue along with Eddie to do a weekly Rangers radio broadcast, albeit under a different name.
I have a long list of thank you's, so I sincerely hope you guys will bear with me.
There are so many of you who have made Blueshirt Banter your daily home, and I don't want to risk leaving anyone out, but know that each and every one of you have my undying gratitude.
Please join me after the jump for the "Long Goodbye"
To James Mirtle, Jim Bankoff, Tyler Blezinski, Travis Hughes, and everyone else at SBNation: Thanks for taking a chance on me, I hope you like what we did with the site.
To Dave Shap, Rob Luker, George, Laurie, Mike G: It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you. Your contributions to this site have all been terrific, and have been a big part of its success. Thank you all so much.
Digger: Love your sense of humor. Out of everyone on staff here, I think it most closely matches mine. Glad you've been a part of this site, and I know you will continue to help make sure it doesn't take itself too seriously in the future.
8Kpower, our latest Banter assimilation. You've been a great contributor here from the day you arrived, and I know you will do well as part of the crew. Just remember, Joe takes his coffee with sugar, and Digger gets a little cranky if you don't bring the donuts on time. Other than that, have fun and thanks again.
John Manic Mcfadden Merrigan: John, you were here with me when no one else was, early game threads were basically you and I chatting. I appreciate you coming on here in the early going, and sticking around. Thanks John, if that is your real name. (Just think, that may be the last time I ride you on that.)
Nick Montemagno: Nick, you don't know how many times I read your articles and said "I wish I could write like this.", and that's probably because I never told you. I'm telling you now, you're a fantastic writer, and you have a tremendous future ahead of you in whatever you do. Thank you for all your help these last two years, I don't think I've ever asked for your help and had you say no, and that means a lot to me.
Eddie Gieck: I would never have gotten to know Eddie if not for the idea of adding a weekly radio show to this site's repetoire, and I would have missed out on a tremendous friendship that I cherish. He's not only the funniest guy I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, but he's a damn good friend, and I look forward to our continued insanity on internet radio and beyond.
Finally, Joe Fortunato: A friend, a contributor, a confidant, and after a night of some bad tequila, a lov....wait, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, Joe. This website might have been out of business 2 years ago if not for Joe's help. Blueshirt Banter could not be in better hands. Thank you Joe, for all of it. I know you will do an awesome job here, because you already have.
I'll still be sticking my head in here daily, commenting and contributing on occasion, but from here on out, it's Joe's site. He's worked hard for this opportunity, and I know you guys will love what he does with it.
Ranger fans are the best in hockey, you guys have spent the last two years showing me why, and I thank each and every one of you for it. Thanks for letting me be long-winded one last time.
Let's Go Rangers!

Good luck to the both of you guys. I can’t explain how good of a job you guys do with this site, it’s the 1st one I check everyday. Jim, you’re the man and thank you for running the best Ranger website anyone will see, have fun on radio.
Can’t wait to see more of you Joe, O captain my captain!

I can never express enough thanks for the opportunity and privilege of joining the staff that you gave to me. It has been a pleasure to learn and laugh with you and the rest of the gang. I am pretty bummed that you will be stepping down but I know we are in good hands (though I do think of Dr. Claw’s hand from Inspector Gadget) with Joe. You have been there for me on some personal matters that I cannot thank you enough for. You are truly a class act Jim. I will do my absolute best to make life hard for Joe and make sure this place is full of laughter, obscure references, and shoddily made photoshop projects for as long as I can offer my services.
Though the Banter radio may be changing its name I will still subscribe and listen to it when I should be doing things like studying or talking to my girlfriend. Your name is up in the rafters my friend and it is going to stay there. I am very, very glad that you will still be around and commenting and won’t disappear from the place that you made great. I love ya Jim, thanks for everything.

take care Jim, thank you for your insight
Banter won’t be the same without you. I definitely became a richer hockey + Rangers fan after finding BB.

Great site!!!
I dont post here much but I read everyday. Jim, this site has made me a bigger Ranger fan because it keeps me in touch with the pulse of the team on a daily basis—which is hard to do from Cleveland.
Good luck with the radio show.

Good luck Jim with everything. It’s been great getting to know you guys as a second family that all happen to love hockey as much as I do and you’re the Godfather to us all. Thanks for getting me all emotional early this morning but ride off into the sunset known you have made a great great thing here that has definitely enriched my life as I’m sure many others. On a closing note try to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix for a little while because we need somewhere to dump our castoffs and the next venue may not be as accepting! Fare the well brutha

I remember the day.. I was reading a yahoo! sports piece, probably by wysh. Among the many grammar and spelling issues, I came upon a “s/t to blueshirtbanter” (stick tap to BSB). Intrigued, I followed the link, and to my hearts delight, I found a site for the rangers by true blue loyalists. Although I only registered an SBNation account recently, rarely did a day go by for quite some time that before that, that I didn’t check for the type of articles I couldn’t find anywhere else. Meaningful analysis, well written and thought out articles, and above all, comical and witty streams of responses to follow. I’m sure this is one of the more thankless tasks, but you deserve some kudos for your role in making this what it is today. Thank you, and good luck with your radio endeavors.
Thanks for making this site what it is today, Jim, and good luck moving forward.
Will your radio show still be linked through this site? Or will we need to go elsewhere to listen.
Hope to still see you around in the threads!
Yes sir, we’ll still be around, promoting the new show, which can be found on the same page as the old one. Plus, you can search for Blueshirt Underground Radio on Facebook, we have a page and event set up that you can join.

Get outta here ya old.....
It’s brilliantly appropriate and fateful that the last Blueshirt Banter Radio show takes place on the day that Captain Chris Drury is officially bought out by the NYR.
Now, your fates are forever tied together.
Are you starting the Phoenix franchise of the Pizza place??

Seriously, Best of luck Jim as you move forward into new and hopefully exciting ventures!
Thank you for creating what has become my internet home away from reality home, and thank you for giving me an outlet for my love of hockey. This place really helped fill a void that was missing when I stopped playing.

wow
I remember back in the days when there were only a couple of hockey blogs on here, and I spoke with Frank over at Pensburgh about launching a Rangers blog. I started an audition to run the site, but because of other commitments writing-wise I wound up dropping out of the running after a couple of weeks and, when this site launched, I had that “damn I wish that was me” feeling.
Jim, you sure as hell did a much better job than I would have in getting this place up and running (though I’m still a little annoyed that my “Handsomest poster of Blueshirt Banter” award seems to have been lost in the mail……). Seriously, this place just HUMS, and it’s part of my daily routine to check first thing in the morning.
You’re kinda like the GM who puts all the pieces in place, but leaves before a championship run begins (Craig Patrick?).
The real problem, though, is letting 8k wield any power here. Can you do something about that before you go?
