Rangers News: Rangers Re-Sign Ruslan Fedotenko
The New York Rangers have re-signed veteran winger Ruslan Fedotenko for one year at $1.4 million according to Bob McKenzie of TSN. Fedotenko, age 32, recorded ten goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 66 games played with the Rangers last season. He also played a big role in their penalty-kill and special teams.
Head coach John Tortorella loves Fedotenko for what he brings to the lineup, and for good reason too. Feds provides leadership, experience, effort and skill all for a cheap price. This is a smart re-signing for the Blueshirts at a great cost. Very happy to see Fedotenko returning to New York.
Now, about Brad Richards....

Good signing, but strange. The bottom 6 seems like a complete hodgepodge at this point.

It’s uncertain whether there will be a buyout period in August or not.
To be eligible, either 2 of the RFAs have to file for arbitration, or 2 of them have to not accept their QOs by July 5 and the NYR would have to file arbitration on them by the 6th, and 2 of them actually have to get to an arb. hearing.
If there are no arb. filings by July 6, there will be no August buy outs.
There’s certainly that.

Not really. The defense stinks, the goaltending will be average, and the forwards have no difference makers.

I still don’t quite get Rupp….can’t Dale Weise do the dirty work so Prust doesn’t always have too? Granted, he’s much smaller and I don’t really know much about his defensive ability.
Like having him back...
But, I hope Sather doesn’t leave himself out of keeping our own. The priority shouldn’t be Richards or the like before keeping our own.

That 3rd line is going to get killed b/c they’ll never have the puck after losing every faceoff.
by NTB on Jul 1, 2011 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions
They’re going to need more offensive punch on Step’s line than Hagelin.
As it is, WW-BR-Gaborik (assuming) would need some sheltering, so the Pack line is going to do the heavy lifting, which will hurt their offense a bit, which means the 3rd line is going to have to make up for it by beating up 3rds.
The Fed signing is just weird after getting Rupp, unless they’re going to spot scratch Rupp, which seems weird.

It a way to get around that. Nobody expects him to be on the roster at 40. His buyout will be peanuts compared to the cap hit we saved. Or he retires and it all comes off.

All night long we loosely expected Richards decision would be made tonight. Now hearing it may carry over to tomorrow. Stay tuned.

The other way of looking at it
There are better offers, but he really wants NY. Thinking over offer vs. NY. If he wanted NY so badly over the other teams he would have signed by now. Now, his even keeping the Rangers in top of pile means good things.

Well, if that were the team….
We would keep Weise in the minors, and just keep Wolski. We would have enough money to make it work.
SO Wolski would be on the top line, and Avery would be the extra forward.

LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
If this is the team at the end of the weekend, you can bet girardi and boyle are traded before camp and the Rangers go after a scoring LW…..I’d just assume get rid of WW instead though. Rupp centers the 4th line and maybe Valentenko becomes 7th.
Absolute Worst Ranger Fan!!!!!!....yet incredibly realistic and usually correct.
i find it hard to belive they would part with Gurardi. He was more consistant than Staal last year and has a reasonable cap hit. who else plays D? as it is they are looking at 2 very inexperieincd players at #5, #6. Why get rid of your 2nd best d man who is locked up for years?
Then we blame sather for trading the youth away?
Boyle I can see being traded, although i would be happy if he was back again.
Why does the dailynews have Feds contract at 3 years 45?
Freedom is a road seldom traveled by the multitudes...
Major blue balls from all this Richards shit.
If he’s not set on being a Ranger when he wakes up, Sather should consider pulling the offer and moving on. Let him go to Calgary or LA. Everything is set up for him here. He’s already made $51MM in his career, he likes Avery and respects Torts. How many guys not on the Rangers like Avery and respect Torts.. How this isn’t done by now is beyond my understanding. Is it ego.. wanting to hear his name be the center of discussion of a few days.. is he afraid of the big stage at MSG and getting cold feet..or is he just listening to the agent and waiting for more money. Maybe all of the above?
I don’t know the answers, but I know that my wife is getting ready for bed and if I don’t get in there now I’ll really have blue balls.
So good night, god bless, and I’ll be looking for a fresh post in the morning.

McKenzie think we are in the lead …. at 9 years and $63m. Please let him be wrong on that figure and term…
I can swallow a 9 year deal for a (roughly) 7.5 mil cap hit that’s front loaded but I do think the rangers are gonna add some more money while taking off a couple years off the deal

7yrs/50 million? Holy fuck thats alot of coin. I fucking actually pay 250.00 to play hockey. I’m such a dick.

Call me crazy but I’m not that upset if Richards doesn’t come here. I would much rather offer Stamkos a 100 million for 12 years than offer a aging Richards these years and money
by DieselCane22 on Jul 1, 2011 11:57 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
We are not sending an offer sheet out so that is out of the question.
Sather doesn’t believe in poaching players like that, the good ole boys consider it unethical.

Than we need a new GM pronto!!!! That’s just lunacy!!! Any chance u have to steal a 40 goal a yr kid….. u do it!!!!

most def...
Stamkos is dynamic…. Richards is like 31 already. I’d be happy if he went to Cal or LA. Stamkos or Doughty is a huge win after “losing” out to Richards.

you may not think so, but it is a life changing decision that he should actually consult his family on as well.
Lebron called attention to himself, BR is not, simply taking his time, sleeping on it, as most good decisions are made.
Im a Fan
Dont care what he is doing just want an answer so we can get our RFA signed
Guys, its not even 24 hrs into free agency
Just because you can’t stomach the wait doesn’t mean Brad is tormenting us….now if it was August ok. We’ll find out tomorrow whats up. I’d love Stamkos here but its not going to happen, if Tampa signed Richards, maybe you go for it, but these GM’s might blackball anyone who tries that. i have to beleive Sather is kinda respected among his peers.
Absolute Worst Ranger Fan!!!!!!....yet incredibly realistic and usually correct.
No Richards means
We get to see our Youth develop another year with Haligen and maybe Thomas as fowards and Erixon and Del Zotto get shots…… Putting Stepan as the First line Center to learn through trial by fire…..i rather this than buy a player that is over 30….. we need to stay young and not attach ourselves to anyone player that will make or break the team….. the team will grow and become better with time…. instant success is a formula that hasnt worked for us we need patience
now vinny ?
good to have feds back he really is a torts kind of player now lets bring prospal back the man is a great team guy and a warrior.

Watching this obviously doesn’t tell you where he’s going to sign, but it made me personally feel better about him:

Dear Glen,
You’ve made so much progress.
Please call your sponser or whatever you have to do to quiet that little neuron cluster in your brain that controls free agency impulse buying and spends indescriminately. True, sometimes to get what you want in life, you have to overpay. This is not one of those times.
Best regards,
The Future
I'm not really a fan of the FedEx deal
It’s not terrible, given that it’s only one year. But since we already (even before Richards signed) had 12 NHL forwards, signing FedEx in addition to Richards on top of that means that none of the youngsters will have any real shot at making the team, until and unless injuries strike. And that would likely be too late for Thomas. Because even if we didn’t sign FedEx and even if we didn’t get Richards, we still would have had a full compliment of NHL forwards. And if none of the youngsters panned out and we had an injury, we could do worse than go with Wiese or Newbury or Kolarik.
But it’s not too bad since it’s one year, as long as he’s just keeping the spot warm for Kreider’s arrival next year.
