NHL News: Devils hire Pete DeBoer as Head Coach
Our neighbors to the west have a new head coach, as the New Jersey Devils have announced that former Panthers coach Pete DeBoer has been hired to replace the retired (again, and again, and I think again) Jacques Lemaire.
DeBoer was the coach of the Florida Panthers before being fired in April after missing the playoffs a third straight season.
Of course, this is the type of stuff you often hear after a coach is fired, but this from a Miami Herald article in April:
The Panthers are definitely moving on. A number of players spoke of a new start being needed as DeBoer’s style wore on them. One veteran player said it would be good for a fresh start as players were "afraid to make mistakes," under DeBoer.

Don't worry
Jacques will be back after the all star break when the Devils are again circling the drain

He died 20 years ago only three of us know who he is, I think your okay.
My brother wore a Cory Lidle costume (blood soaked yankee uniform with burn resin on his face and arms) to a Halloween party, 20 days after the crash. Friends thought it was so tasteless they disqualified him from best costume contest.

That wasn’t even the worst I’ve seen. College 1999 or 2000 at frat house Halloween party a kid dressed up as a Payne Stewart zombie. Priceless. That wasn’t even a week after he died.

I live in Southeast Florida, only 20 miles or so from the Panthers arena, and I am CONSTANTLY bombarded in the papers with PATHERS, PANTHERS, PANTHERS!!! I’ve even gone to a couple of games (against the Rangers). Believe me, this guy DeBoer han’t done a thing as a coach!!!! He strikes me as a mouse. I don’t think the Devils helped themselves at all by hiring him. And Boy, that makes me happy
Well that’s kind of why I threw that piece from the Herald in there. I lived in SoFla for half his tenure, and I didn’t think he was doing anything special.

Another SFL resisdent
I’ve lived in Ft Lauderdale for the last 4 years and seen this group of misfits play more times than I wish to admit. While I agree that DeBoer hasn’t exactly thrown the team on his back and carried them to success, it’s no easy task when you loss your best players on a yearly basis. Bouwmeester, Horton and now Vokoun were all given away for nothing. Dennis Wideman? Jordan Leopold? Come on now, that’s ridiculous. Management tried desperately to move Stephen Weiss this year too. I think he can do much better in NJ now that he’s been given the tools to succeed

I do not understand this…^

Which of the two locals are “constantly” bombarding you with Florida Panthers articles? There’s typically never room left on the first six pages of each, having dutifully reported on the Dolphins, Heat, Marlins, Hurricanes, Gators, Seminoles, Nova Southeastern, FAU, fishing, auto racing, and high school wrestling.
And that’s on a BIG day for the Cats. Just curious.
Jim, you can stand by this, I’m sure.

From SFLA too. I have to admit, I only see hockey in the paper or on the news probably twice a year. At least the Rangers play here 3-4 times a year. It is hard to compete with the roster they have. After going to the Garden for 15 years and seeing who knows how many games, when I went to my first Panther game, I said, " WTF is this? WTF is this?" I much rather sit home and watch a Ranger game on tv then go to the BAC. I do think the Panthers actually have an outside chance to make the playoffs this year.

This is AMAZING news.
The only thing holding that team together was LeMaire and that bullshit trap. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is brought back again.

A few SBNation sites are blocked, I don’t know why. Maybe it has something to do with their original domain, I don’t know. Thank God the Banter, Big Blue View, and Amazing Avenue are clear.

I think of banned from their two, ever since that argument I had with their writer..
What a…

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
They seem to be pretty happy about it – lots of “well he almost put the Panthers in the playoffs once”, and “he was almost .500 record with a shitty team” blah blah blah. We’ll see how this works out.
Whatever he does, it will be compared to 23-3-2.

they're trying to make it sound like he's a good coach.
making excuses that his players were bad, so his teams failed…
good luck with that pile of all-stars on the devils.
Listen, I am sure he IS a good enough coach, and some of the arguments are valid – he was two time OHL coach of the year, good developing young guys, working with a MUCH more talented team than Florida. A team that will be determined not to repeat last year’s embarrassing first half.
That said, it will still only be good enough for 3rd in the division, behind the Pens and the Rangers (sorry Philly, yes, you fucked yourself into a spot below the Devs…) which means fighting it out between the 8th and 9th spots at the end of the year.

well i said this earlier today when i found out about this...
we can only hope this guy will bury them even deeper than they were last year…and then when they’re 30 games below .500 at mid-season…those silly Devil fans will call for another comeback like last year….but this time around they’re going to stay buried.
