Glad Vinny found a good deal for himself. For a guy coming off knee surgery and an an abbreviated season, he did will, and I wish him the best. He’s a good guy.

sad to see...

Vinny leave but there was no place for him on the team. One of my favorite players on the team over the past 2 years. Good luck to him in Columbus.

Prospal – Carter – Nash

Has potential. Good luck to Vinny

How many times do we play them this season…?

I think Carter and Nash will be split up since both are primary scorers. Maybe Johansen with Nash, and Prospal centering Carter

I think they’ll be split up to.

Only Carter would center VP.

Congrats to Columbus for doing what I thought our team should have done, sign the Tan man. Now I can’t wait to see what type of numbers he puts up with the other two guys. Kind of a weird mix of guys but i believe it will work out for them. Are the bluejackets going for broke or what? I think they’re having one of the better offseasons by far, not better than us but close.

Columbus will be scary next season

Pretty sure they will make the playoffs. Carter nash and Vinny….plus they nabbed wisniewski….if Mason plays the way we all know (and seen) him play before, this team will be tough to beat this year.

great pics, Blue Seats!

I will definitely miss Prosp’s intensity, but 1.75m is nearly 1m more than we prob would have offered, so I’m glad he got another nice pay check….besides, you know with the youth movement in hartford, that spot would be filled quickly

by NjRanger4 on Jul 23, 2011 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Good for him – he’s one of the best guys in the NHL… glad he doesn’t have to hang ’em up right away, and that he found a good fit for himself. Wish we had the room for him here.

by j-red on Jul 23, 2011 4:34 PM EDT reply actions

I had an inkling that he wouldn’t be on the team this year, but I couldn’t back it up with any hard evidence.

Long story short, he was a rare, good, veteran free agent pick-up by the Rangers. He played above expectation, paired great with our superstar, and was beloved by fans for his zeal for the game.

He has his age and a nagging injury problem to add to the “?” column, but he still had a great point per game average with the Rangers. He might still have something left in the tank and could play with Carter and Nash on the Blue Jackets top line if everything falls into place for him.

Good luck, Vinny.

Sad to see him go

Im a huge fan of him. Great veteran presence and was always good for a big goal here and there. Effort was always there, classy on and off the ice. Definitely will be missed, but glad he got a chance to keep playing.

Best of luck vin

Not every “enigmatic” Russian (or at least USSR-born) player is a “locker room cancer.” I doubt it.

by red army line on Jul 24, 2011 3:05 PM EDT up reply actions

he was surely no locker room cancer everytime he played for team russia. instead he was a leader. but i can’t believe this could work out well for the isles. with a young promising team (in some years).

by marionyr on Jul 25, 2011 9:56 AM EDT up reply actions

Why can’t it work out well for NYI if he isn’t a locker room cancer.

Let me put it this way: the Isles are in negotiations with a 36-year old Russian forward from the KHL who’s projected to put up around 40 points. Is that good or bad? They’re not going to sign him long-term, and I think they have a realistic shot at the playoffs this season. They also have that whole new arena deal backdrop, and making the playoffs (or almost) should help getting approval.

if they talk to alexej morosow, i would agree ;-) and i agree that they have a realistic chance to reach the playoffs, but jashin back in an islanders jersey is hard to imagine for me.
but i understand your points and i hope we can discuss after the season about this topic

I’m surprised hes not still under contract with the isles. Great management over there in Nassau, makes you almost want to like Sather.

The Yashin thing looks real. It was a BS rumor last summer, but apparently Snow confirmed they are currently talking about it.

Yeah DiPietro’s Contract is on Snow so no matter what it’s awful.

by CT49erFanatic on Jul 23, 2011 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

actually no its not

when Snow was first given the job he didnt have full control of GM duties, Wang (owner) had this sort of “council” that made the decisions that the GM would. Snow was essentially a figurehead at first and it was Wang who really wanted to gigantic contract for Dipietro

Was really hoping the Rangers would bring him back

for just one more year to play on the top line. But at that money it would have never happened. Will miss him and wish him the best (except against us).

I, too will miss Bronze God. Vinny could really put pressure on teams with his speed, and made Gaborik amazing two seasons ago. Sucks that he’s gone.

Good luck, Vinny.

9-14-23 (4) in 29 games = 25-40-65 (11) over 82.
10 of his 23 came on the (anemic) PP.
8-game point streak March 1 – 18.
5 points in 3 of the Rangers last four regular season games while we hunted down a playoff spot.
The guy was CLUTCH.

Good luck, Vinny.

Let me know how that works out for you . . .

by SimpleManiac on Jul 24, 2011 10:47 AM EDT reply actions

Adios Tan Man

Vinnie was one of our better recent signings. I would have signed him for one more year. Suspect he would have reupped with the Rangers for less money. Don’t be surprised when he has a great season for Columbus. Their gain is our loss. We are carrying a number of worthless spare parts on this team and they have never contributed the way Vinnie has.

by snark38 on Jul 24, 2011 10:52 AM EDT reply actions

Too bad Columbus didn’t need an agitator . . .

Let me know how that works out for you . . .

by SimpleManiac on Jul 24, 2011 10:56 AM EDT up reply actions

We are carrying exactly two spare parts, EC and Avery. One will probably be on the scratch list part time, and the other a full time gig in Hartford.

I love Vinny but I could not comfortably put him on that first line with Gabby and EC. His physical condition and inability to quickly get back on D would be a huge liability with those two. His role for us has been set-up and finisher, a role that we got BR to do better. 1st line needs a gritty two way player. I also couldn’t see Vinny replacing someone on one of the other lines now either.

Good luck, Vin!

by BigB22 on Jul 24, 2011 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Spare parts was probably not the best term, but there are 4 (or so) players that Vinny would be a better replacement for.
EC, Avery, MZA and most importantly, Ruslan Fedotenko. Also, having Prust and Boyle and Rupp may be overkill for that type of player, although they are all quality players on their own.

by Skuba7 on Jul 25, 2011 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions

When healthy yes, but there’s no guarantee he can play the whole season.

Also, he’s making more $ than Feds, which is always a factor.

There’s no guarantee anyone can play the whole season. Prospal is a better player than Fedotenko, and certainly better than the other three, in similar roles.
$350K difference shouldnt be the deciding factor between two players unless they are deemed of equal worth to begin with.

by Skuba7 on Jul 25, 2011 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

the difference then, is that Prospal had significant knee problems and surgery. He is much less of a sure bet this season.

by j-red on Jul 25, 2011 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions

True point, but with Prospal’s knee a big ? mark, who knows what will happen this season.

Now, I’m not saying I wouldn’t sign him, just explaining why we didn’t, and why we essentially opted for Feds instead.

I hear ya, I personally think it was the wrong decision for the Rangers. But with injuries, you are correct, no one can foresee what will happen.

by Skuba7 on Jul 25, 2011 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Except that wasn’t the difference, as it was announced today Prospal’s actual cap hit is $2.5m w/ bonuses.

Aha. Thanks George. So the difference is an extra what, 1.3 mil?

With the way the Rangers are set up, that means having either 1 bench player or none. Having guys like Prospal and Gabby with no bench players isn’t smart.

No of course we could have bought out WW or demoted Avery and than resigned Vinny, but I like the road we took. It allows us to have a solid team, with depth as well.

If Cally takes 3.8 or less, we can have a full 23 man roster with Zucs.
