New York Rangers News and Notes: Bantering Points

Today marks our first edition of Bantering Points. We hope you enjoy our new feature!

- Greg Wyshynski and Andrew Gross both point out that Brad Richards may indeed be the next New York Rangers captain. He also lists that Ryan Callahan and Marc Staal are also strong candidates.

- As we saw yesterday, The Rangers agreed to terms with defensemen Brendan Bell. This move was most definitely a depth move for the Rangers AHL affiliate. However, since Mikhail Pashnin decided to stay in Russia, this very well may be his placement.

 - Videos are starting to be released for the new and transformed Madison Square Garden. The building plan is ahead of schedule, and they even started construction on the upper 300's.

 - Blue Seat Blogs did an analysis of which defensemen have a shot at the final defensive pairing. He points out that Michael Del Zotto and Tim Erixon are leading the pack. While Dylan McIlrath may be a possibility, but highly unlikely.

 - We all heard about the stunning news, that Mikhail Pashnin decided to stay in Russia, rather than play in North American. We have been informed that Pashnin turned down the Rangers, because he was not interested in a two-way contract. Pashnin felt that he would not develop in the minors.

Use this as your open thread for the morning. We'll have more analysis to follow later in the day.

McIlrath

Agreed that its unlikely, but not impossible. Gordie Clark said last year when they drafted him that the possibility existed for him to make the team last year, so you never know.

I thought he could be ready last year as a 6th or 7th defenseman. Still convinced that this could happen this season. He’s not going in the top 4…but 6 or 7, I can see it.

out of all of our top prospects (erixon, thomas, kreider, Mcllrath) DM is the one with the least amount of urgency to bring up. A big defenseman needs more seasoning than any other type of player and it will only benefit him for our current young crop to get more experience at t he NHL level before throwing him into the mix. This gives us a lot more options in terms of pairings when we throw him into the mix and gives us more security.

He's not coming up as #7

Eminger will be the default #7 defender. If McIlrath comes up it’s to be a top 6 defender otherwise he will remain in CT to get playing time.

Not only that, but he’s not CT eligible.

The Richards as captain article

Really irked me. Citing his long term deal versus Cally’s 3 year extension as a reason to nominate Richards as the captain. Even non-Rangers fans found that speculation to be preposterous.

Why give that guy credence?

He’s a loser…seriously. I stopped reading his crap when he interviewed Chris Jericho.

Can we get a countdown clock on the site?

Something that shows days/hours/minutes until a certain event, ex. Traverse or Opening of Training Camp, then maybe reset it to the season opener.. ..then the home opener and other games/ events during the season?

How about one that counts down to the expiration of the Islanders lease at the Coliseum? LOL

It really ought to be four minutes, but that’s just me.

As of this minute

31 days, 5 hours, and 20 minutes until they drop the puck in Traverse City, Game 1, vs. Blues prospects. In other words, too fucking long.

As Anthony pointed out in the comments of the Wyshynski, did they really take a picture of Dru and photoshop Richards’ head on it?? Look that the neck… that’s a hell of a tan line for a Texan and on the back of his head it looks kind of like he’s wearing a piece of broken helmet…

I find it funny that a Devil fan (Wysh) is opining on who the Rangers captain should be. Anything he says about the Rangers I take with at least 2 grains of salt.

Manning lobs it, Burress alone, touchdown New York!
For the empty net, Mark Messier... do you believe it?! Do you believe it?! He said we will win game 6 - he has just picked up the hat trick!

It’s an NHL blog. He writes about a lot of teams…and is generally pretty fair. I don’t see how anyone could take offense to that Richards article, it was pretty fair.

it's all speculation at this point

nobody knows anything until camps starts, everybody needs to relax about who’s going to be what

it’s august, let’s just enjoy the hot steamy weather and fantasize about deep playoff runs, lundqvist shutouts, and boobies

I really hope its Cally for the C. He’s worked hard and shown he has the ability to be captain. Giving the C to a guy who hasn’t been here doesn’t seem like the right idea for me (save the Messier story, BR is not #11) I think Cally earning the C only cements the youth movement and building from within as the team’s new approach, the right approach. Think of the younger players who would see how hard Cally worked to improve and become capt one day, its added incentive for them.
