New York Rangers News and Notes: Bantering Points

 - Wojtek Wolski is preparing for what could be a breakout season. Earlier this summer, Wolski was training with skating coach Barbara Underhill; The same person who trained Brian Boyle before his career-high 20 goal season. Reports are saying that Wolski is now working with hockey guru Jari Byrski.

 - Pictures surfaced on Bauer Hockey Facebook page, that Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will be sporting some new pads during the 2012 season. It appears to be the same type of Bauer pads as last season, but with a blue base color.

 - Team USA faced-off against Finland today in an exhibition game. J.T. Miller recorded a goal and four penalty minutes. Miller's goal came on the empty net to put the US up 4-1, and would clinch the win. While scoring on an empty net isn't the greatest accomplishment, it is nice to see Miller putting up some points.

 - EA Sports announced today that NHL 12's demo will officially be released on August 23rd, 2011. As we said yesterday, we have something planned for our readers, it's time for the announcement. We have been given the great opportunity to review a copy of NHL 12 courtesy of EA Sports. We will have an exclusive review of the game, before the game hits the shelves on September 13th. Stay tuned for more!

 - With the annual NHL Research and Development Camp coming up on August 13th, there has been several new rules that will be looked at. Those being the "Hybrid" icing call, no icing permitted while shorthanded, overtime variations, no line changes for offending off-sides team, removing trapezoid behind the net, and an in-net goal line camera.

It’s good to see WW taking his career seriously this year and hopefully it results in him realizing his potential. Miller seems to always be in the mix in these games and practices so hopefully these are good signs for things to come.

i'm biased on this

but i want wolski to break out and succeed here in a big way

i was hoping to see him drafted in 2004 (him or zajac), instead they went with korpikoski

Empty net goals

Don’t underestimate their value. If the net is empty, the defending team is shorthanded. That’s extra pressure and a coach is going to put his best defensive-minded players who can also be trusted under pressure on the ice. It says a lot about the players chosen. Scoring that goal tells you the coach made a good decision. How many times have you seen a team never get that goal? Miller got it done.
I’ve read the much of the same criticism aimed at Dubinsky here. You know what? The guy gets it done.

+1

They’re not always gimme goals either. And as you said, guys that are on the ice to defend last minute leads are usually thought of as strong defensively.

The NHL12 News would be better if you said

We are handing out copies for all of you to “review”. That would make that bullet point much better and would be a better suprise.

Sound like you’re volunteering to do so. That’s very charitable of you. I’d say you should buy about 500 copies to be safe.

New Rule changes on TSN

The Rule Changes on TSN were different than posted earlier.

I don’t like the Offsides rules at all.
I still want freezing the puck outside the crease penalized for goalies. If they enforce that rule then I’m ok with getting rid of the trapezoid.
I like Hybrid Icing.
I don’t like the changes to OT.

off topic

Lundquist new blue pads look good. I’m bored with the white. I miss Richter’s red pads. I wish hank went more red. Even Valiquette looked good with the red pads.
