The NHLPA has announced that Chris Drury has retired.
Via SNYRangersblog.com .. what are the cap implications?
Not shocking, I guess he didn't get any good offers from other teams, or his injuries are worse than he thought. Obviously, I wish he had made that decision before taking that buyout. Oh well, farewell Chris, sorry things didn't work out ... jeez, I didn't want to type any of this but not meeting the minimum word count for the post.. lalalala two more

We can speculate...
but a good person and hockeyman just had to hang them up. No one was a winner like Chris Drury. Enjoy your retirement, Chris. I’ll see you at the restaurant soon.
As for the cap, if the NHL could do the Rangers a real solid favor, they would void the buyout and honor the retirement and free the cap hit. This sucks as much as the Boogie passing and his cap hit banter. Wow!
A blow, indeed.

Bought out, retired quietly in the middle of summer. The perfect ending to the most overrated career in NHL history. I wont even make another little league joke, cause Twitter’s full of them already.

On Wednesday I played some hockey (I live 15 minutes from Drury’s hometown of Trumbull), and had a friendly conversation with an acquaintance of Drury’s. Fairly Recently, Buffalo made him an offer that was enough for Chris to consider, but with the major spending in Buffalo, that offer quickly went out the window. He also mentioned that Chris was offered a position as an analyst (I believe he said for ESPN), but joked that Chris didn’t want to do that because he “couldn’t speak”, and was going to embarrass himself on national TV.
Seeing as he announced his retirement, I wouldn’t be shocked to see him follow up on an analyst position, and if not, I’ll just hit hit pizza place for some nice banter every now and again.
It's not his style...
He’s a quiet leader. That’s his way.

No cap complications, the buyout still stands, because he retired after the fact.

It would have been nice if he retired BEFORE we bought him out.
Just goes to show it is a business, and in the end, Drury took and the money and ran like hell.
again...I don't think it's his style
to take the money and run, at the time of the buyout I think he had every intention of playing again. But the way the summer has come and gone for him to sign with another team and the recovery ( of which he can only speculate) might not have been going as well and it led him to this.
