Eklund Said What???
Direct quote from Eklund from Hockeybuzz.com
Habs Christensen
The Canadiens continue to pursue Erik Christensen...and I have said it before, but if Gauthier can pull this move off I predict it will go down as his best trade to date in his tenure as GM in Montreal.
Has Eklund lost his mind? Just a few thoughts:
1) I'm sure Sather would be more than willing to trade EC.
2) If the habs really wanted Christensen he wouldn't still be a Ranger.
3) Why in the world would Eklund be so high on Christensen?
I just lost all the little respect I had for Eklund.

shootouts at least
I listen to Enter Sandman before taking exams. I wear the exact same jersey every Giants game. The Rangers goal song goes off in my head when I achieve small successes in life.

I gotta believe he’s just poking fun at Gauthier… this prompted me to poke around a little into PG’s trade history and…..
in 2009-2010 he made 2 trades, 2nd rounder to Florida for Dominic Moore and Matt D’Agostini to St. Louis for Aaron Palushaj
highlights from 2010-2011:
Halak to St. Louis for Eller and Ian Schultz
Kostitsyn to Nashville for Ellis and Boyd
Desjardins to Tampa for Karri Ramo
2nd + 5th round to NYI for Wisniewski… rights later traded to CBJ for 5th rounder
aside from some other messing around with ex-rangers Paul Mara and Nigel Dawes… that’s about it…
so yeah, if he could pull in EC it may actually be a bright mark on his record.
that said, I am a decent fan of EC WHEN he plays well. it’s too bad he can’t always play with the brilliance he’s shown flashes of in the past. Oh well… I wouldn’t mind shedding him and if we got something (even if Sather just shares the candy bar with us)… anything above that is just gravy.

He has had an obsession with EC for a while now.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
LET'S GO RANGERS!!!
EC
Regardless of how disposable everyone wants to make EC, it makes no sense to send him anywhere, even Hartford, until Gabby shows us he can produce. We want to think Gabby/Richards is going to work, but until it actually does, and shows it’s going to last, we’ve GOT to keep EC. At 900k EC is our insurance policy for Gabby.
If Gabby/Richards doesn’t work, we can put Gabby back EC, hope he gets going, and then if he’s smart, Slats dishes Gabby to first team with a half decent offer and we get out from under his contract while we can. At that point, if still don’t want EC, trade/demote/waive away, but I still think EC is great, cheap, fix for injuries in the top 6, and a capable everyday player for the bottom 6.
It really isn’t that off base.
How much does keeping EC on our squad as our 13th forward with his meager 925k cap hit hurt the team? Not at all.
We already made all the moves we needed to make this offseason, and his cap hit will be gone at the end of the season.

I'm not disagreeing with what you say
Because it makes sense. I’m just saying if a team out there has interest in him there’s no reason to keep him around.
Nothing about EC's game has changed since we claimed him
If anything, the chemistry he’s shown with Gabby made him a bigger asset then we might have hoped for when we claimed him. He certainly hasn’t changed since we gave with the 900k per contract last season, so I don’t get why everyone is so eager to move him. I guess I can’t say it enough… until we can find a guy who can play with Gabby, EC is going to have a spot on this team.

Richards is 100000000000000000x the player EC is. I’m pretty sure he can play with Gaborik.

Just cause Richards is a better player, doesn’t mean they’re going to click. Gabby has been streaky as long as he’s been here, and EC has been the guy who gets him out of those funks. Needing EC isn’t a knock on Richards, I honestly think that we have enough young talent who fit the mold of players Richards has excelled with, that BR won’t be the problem. Gabby is another issue though.

EC and Gabby still shouldn’t be an option. Sure 2 years ago they played pretty well together and last year they played okay together, but this doesn’t need to be an insurance option at all, there are plenty better.
Proudly suffering as a Ranger fan.

It's not a better option if it doesn't get Gabby going
The only new center on the team is Richards, if anyone else was an option, they had there chance to show it during Gabby’s frequent struggles last season. EC as an insurance policy isn’t a knock on any of our other centers, it’s just straight fact. As I said in my initial comment, if Gabby can’t produce with Richards, we need to get Gabby going with someone else, and start looking to move Gabby. That’s where EC comes in.
Also, as I’ve said time and time again, I think that EC is perfect 13th forward, especially since he’s a center, so you’re covered no matter where an injury hits. He’s old enough that he’s not wasting developmental years sitting in the press box when we don’t need him, and when we do, I think he is a capable bottom 6 player in smaller situations, and has shown the ability to step up for short stints if we need help in the top 6. Again, I’m not saying EC is a top 6 player, just a capable top 6 fix in case of injury. For 900K, it’s not a big deal.

Although the Canadiens would like a center...
the EC rumors are false…let me repeat…false.
Eklund—the answer to all bad rumors.

We are listening to Eklund again boys? Sigh.
EC may be somewhat desirable because of his low cap hit but imagine that guy playing in Montreal. The only benefit would be that he would feel incredibly tall for the first time in his life. The downsides are numerous, too numerous to list.

If by some stretch BR and Gabby don't click.........
…..throw BR between Dubi and Cally (imagine what a sick line that would be) and let AA play with Gabby for a long stretch. Give them Fedotenko for an all Euro-line.
In this far-fetched scenario o’ mine, the lines could be as follows:
Dubinsky Richards Callahan
Fedotenko Anisimov Gaborik
Wolski Stepan Avery (or amazing rookie like Thomas/Hagelin etc.)
Prust Boyle Rupp
I don’t foresee this happening b/c I think BR and MG will go together like peanut butter and chocolate. But if they needed to shake things up, they have options such as the one I outlined above.
Curiosity got to me
Here’s last year’s ES production for Gaborik, based on who was on the ice when he scored. data taken from DobberHockey and hockeyanalysis
For example, Frolov was on ice for 8 of Gaborik’s ES points, and on ice with Gaborik for 148.96 minutes, giving a ESP/60 of 3.222. Everyone except Callahan (9 minutes), Boyle (55), and Feds (77) had at least 140 minutes of ice time.
CALLAHAN 6.475
BOYLE 3.242
FROLOV 3.222
DUBINSKY 2.935
AVERY 2.918
CHRISTENSEN 2.903
ANISIMOV 2.384
FEDOTENKO 2.310
STEPAN 1.768
PROSPAL 1.644
So EC was better w/ Gaborik than our other top centers, but by no means was EC the only player that could make Gaborik productive last year.
