Kopitar is from Yugoslavia. But still they are so stacked. We (USA) are sloooooowly closing the gap though lol
Slovenia, specifically.

Patrick Kane, Zach Parise, and Ryan Kesler would be like third liners on this team haha. And that’s our first line.
John Tortorella on 24/7 will be like Ari Gold on Entourage.

Giroux yes. Nash I don’t think so…. The guy is incredibly talented and has played on a horrific Columbus squad his entire pro career. Nash is also a very physical player standing at 6’4 and plays solid defense. If your looking for scoring ability you take Parise, but if you want all around solid play Nash is the better option.
If Parise and Nash were both 18 years old and I had to choose one to start a franchise with i’d take Nash.

I like Parise. Nash sometimes people feel is so underrated they overrated him. Parise is better than a point per game playing top lines. Nash, not quite the playmaker or defensive stud.

Yeah, if Nash and Parise were 18 years old, and I had the #1 pick, I’d take Nash. But 5 years down the line, I’d have regretted not taking Parise.
I sincerely think Parise is a better player than Nash. Parise is just as good a scorer, but I thinh he’s a better playmaker by half.
nash is a stud and especially with praise coming off an injury like that it would have to be nash

Just thinking…I think most people, myself included, starting loving Nash a couple of years ago, whe pn he had like a 90% individual points percentage on the power play, a huge outlier (getting 9 points per 10 on ice goals for)

IPP is for the morst part a pretty reliable stat, of course there are outliers but for the most part it is not like on-ice-SV%, a stat that is near random with major variance

I mean, Nash went crazy one year.

Variance seems pretty common throughout the chart. The most revealing thing is definitely three year averages, so when Nash is top in the league in that its hard to argue

Switch around Toews and Stamkos. Toews was maybe the best player in the Olympics last year, and a much better all around center than Stamkos. With his offensive abilities, Stamkos would be much more comfortable on the wing than Toews anywho.

And Letang should probably make the A team over Green since he’s proven himself to be a better two way player

I mean the Canadians are all close it is almost impossible to decide, many could say Letang over Green, and then some would say Boyle, and then green himself is pretty damn good. Talk about an embarrassment of riches

In all honesty looking at this I would have a real tough time thinking the U.S. squad is overall better than the second Canadian one
and yet it took ot for canada to knock off a supposedly young and inexperienced us team last year
and this isn’t taking into account what the us team will look like in sochi depending on how some guys develop….
my concern would be in net, miller will be 34 by the time the next olympics rolls around, the only other viable alternatives right now would be jon quick or jimmy howard

Miller will be fine in Sochi, 34 isn’t terribly old for a goalie.
by CrazyRangerFan on Aug 30, 2011 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions
yea, but judging how a goalie will be 4 years from now is an extremely risky exercise
by Ahmad Bradshaw on Aug 31, 2011 7:03 PM EDT up reply actions
its really only 2 years and change until the olympics. I dont think Miller’s game is going to drop off the face of the earth in that time.
by CrazyRangerFan on Sep 4, 2011 4:07 PM EDT up reply actions
That second team is incredible and extremely deep 1-18. To leave off forwards like Duchene, Chris Steward, Nathan Horton, and to have six D-men like that is truly ridiculous.
Great write-up again, Ahmad Bradshaw
I agree with 99% of your USA and Canada predictions.
Am I the only one a little surprised many “super-teams” elect to configure an NHL-style 4th line “grinding” line (although the grinders listed can admittedly all score), as opposed to putting out 4 scoring lines?
In that line of reasoning, Jamie Benn deserves an honorable mention for Team B and Giordano may stand a better shot than Regher to make Team B reserves.

We have
Pretty good goalies in Miller and Thomas that’s for sure.

The only goalie that gets me is Ward. He is so under rated. He HAS to be better then Brodeur now and I think he’s better then Luongo but that may be just me
by XxC17xX on Aug 29, 2011 8:30 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
I doubt Thomas will still be good by 2014 especially the style he plays. Jon Quick will be really good by then. Howard maybe. Howard has been shaky at times.

Cant really say things like that definitively, major variance in goalie performance, and some don’t even think Quick will be the starter in a couple years (bernier)
by Ahmad Bradshaw on Aug 31, 2011 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Cam Ward is unbelievable he is undoubtedly better than Brodeur, and I think Luongo is terribly overrated. Cam Ward and Fluery should be their top two goalies in my opinion.
by CrazyRangerFan on Aug 30, 2011 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Luongo is better than all three of them and won them gold just a year and a half ago.
by Ahmad Bradshaw on Aug 31, 2011 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Luongo only had to be average in front of the team Canada put out there.
He wasn’t spectacular, but he was better than Brodeur.
Crazy would be NOT overanalyzing everything.

For all his poor games, he did make a great save on Sharp in Game 7 OT vs Chicago and pitch two 1-0 shutouts in the Stanley Cup Finals.
