PrintThe biggest story in the New York Rangers second preseason European friendly will be goaltender Henrik Lundqvist going up against his former team, Frolunda. Oh yeah, his twin brother also happens to play for Frolunda, and will be suiting up tonight.
For the Rangers brass, it's another opportunity to get a good look at some of the players who are fighting for roster spots. Michael Del Zotto and Tim Erixon had good showings in yesterday's 2-0 win over HC Sparta (both recorded assists in the victory) as they try to prove they belong with the big club this year.
Obviously today will be another opportunity to prove just that.
But all eyes will end up being on Lundqvist and his twin brother Joel Lundqvist. The game is televised on MSG today, so if you happen to be out of work or on lunch you will be able to catch some of it.

This should be a fun game.
I’m excited to watch MZA on the larger ice surface.
Our defense is at a huge disadvantage here, not being acclimated to the ice. Lets see how they handle it.

You wanna improve the flow, speed, and quality of the game? Its called international ice. It wont happen anytime soon because of finances, but I’m all about it. Playing on olympic rinks suddenly you have room everywhere.

I was a small player in high school (5-10 160ish) and when we played an annual tourney on olympic ice it was great stuff. Also, what I mean by the NHL not adopting it is because it takes $$$ away from arenas – those are the most expensive seats where the open ice would be. If they make a 30 year plan to adopt the ice, though, the game would just naturally improve.

As a goalie, I had a pretty easy time the couple games I played in Ireland on the bigger ice surface. Yeah, there’s more room for the skaters, but it also makes it harder for them to really create traffic and screens.

When does MDZ get a break? Sullivan is over in his ear about something (don’t know if it was positive or negative) but he’s got a goal and an assist and hasn’t looked terrible. The kid knows he’s got to improve on the D end. Chirping in his ear after every shift can’t help.

I’m not a fan of Avery, but when he has the puck along the boards, he rarely gives it up or has it taken from him. He may be one of the best in the league as far as that goes. EC, doesnt do shit.

i don’t mind avery… i think he serves his purpose as long as he’s pissing the other team off… i mean him just being in the lineup makes the devils mad… you have to accept the good with the bad with him in order to like him and i don’t disagree its hard to overlook his stupid penalties…

understand why everyone hates Avery. He is very good at what he does. He is not supposed to put up 3 points a game. He is supposed to piss off the other players. He just happens to have some offensive talent, but the refs and coach kinda got the leash pretty tight on him after Avery Rule, and it’s really affected his game.

thats one arguement.
well i guess it was more valuable before he had a target on his back. he did draw penalties. IMO, when he went out there, he got the team fired up and tried to make shit happen. that certainly isnt the case anymore. it would be nice to keep him, but I see why he isnt essential.

It’s not so much I hate the guy, I just dont think he is needed on this team. Yeah he draws a penalty or two every so often, but there are too many times where its not called cause its Avery, and where it is called cause on him because its Avery. Its risk versus reward, and with thim, I just think the risk outweighs the reward if you look at an 82 game span. Now if he put up more points, obviously that would bring more of a reward and the balance would be shifted but as is, I think we can find a better player with that role, or we simply dont need that role.

Though you're being sarcastic...
It’s a beautiful city (or at least it was, haven’t been there in 10 years) on the southern coast. It’s actually one of my favorite cities in Europe, 2nd probably to Barcelona. If you’re ever taking a trip to Scandinavia you should definately check it out for a couple of days.
