Around SBN: Ryder Hesjedal Wins Giro d'Italia

What is this team missing?

We got that 1st line center in Richards. Check.

We got another another solid 4th liner in Rupp to replace Boogaard. Check.

We re-signed all of our key RFA's. Check.

Ok, with all those key things what do we need to win a cup?

To be honest I think we might need two things:

1) A solid LW to play with Richards and Gaborik. We might have one in Wolski or Dubinsky. Or we don't. Either way someone is going to need to fill that role and really break out in that role.

The best case scenario for us is if Wolski can fill that role. Dubinsky would be better served playing with Cally and Anisimov because the chemistry they have with each other is great and it would pain me to watch Wolski play on that line and see Cally going hard and Wolski hanging back on the blue line.

Worst case scenario is we find no one who can fit the bill and we are forced to look at the trade market and throw everything at the wall to see what sticks. And in the process we lose prospects.

2) A steady 5th/6th defenseman. Ok maybe we don't need one because Del Zotto makes a tremendous turn around and and him and Erixon make a great pairing chipping in some goals and being reliable blue liners. That's our best case scenario.

Our worst case scenario is we have no real reliability for our 5th/6th guys and just like in the playoffs against the Caps, Torts closes his eyes every time he sends that bottom pair out. That would be horrible to watch again. But something even more horrible to watch is Sather calling up Wade Redden. Just kidding.

Didn’t you guys show a clip where Torts was that asst coach, albeit with Buffalo?

Seeing’s this is mid-morning, I sure could use an assistant coach who’ll offer me another doughnut. (These stripes don’t make me look fat, do they?)

My answer is I have no clue. The season hasn’t started yet. On paper, sure we’re probably missing a few things, but their play will dictate whether or not they’re legit concerns.

They have guys with untapped offensive skills on the back end.
They have Richards who is supposed to help the PP produce more.
They have players than can play LW1 and probably be successful.
They have a string of young, allegedly NHL-ready defensemen to play the bottom pair.

All of them could be problems, or none of them could be. This close to the season, it’s really wait and see, because they’re very unlikely to suddenly make a trade here so close to the start of the season to change things.

Just on a lark, I’d love to see the Prust-Duby-Cally line for a few shifts…not that the Rangers need this line. It would just be a hoot to see. Almost as big a hoot as to see Prust, Cally, and Cal Clutterbuck (but which one would be the center?).

I think the Rangers need Abigail Scuito from NCIS, plus a pair of those “magic” tech glasses, so that every time Sam Rosen looks onto the ice at a play, Ms. Scuito could identify the player(s) for him before he makes a mistake. I like Sam, but a little extra help never hurt.

any one else remember/notice the slip up during Rosens broadcast for NFL on Fox last season? He called “Brandon Dub… Jacobs” on live TV… loved it. Throw out a little love for the Rangers during a Giants game. Hopefully Dubacobs can rock this season.

I see that Prucha, Sjostrom, and Tim Kennedy are free agents.
