Bantering Points: The New York Rangers And The Shootout
The New York Rangers defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 in a six round shootout last night, thanks to goals from Marian Gaborik and Derek Stepan.
The win came right after the news that the Rangers are considering sending both Wotjek Wolski and Eric Christensen to Connecticut to play for the Whale.
Christensen and Wolski have to agree to do so, but if they do the move is one I wholeheartedly agree with. I am a vocal basher of the NHL's tendencies when it comes to rehabbing players. I strongly believe(d) that Marc Staal should have played in Connecticut before playing in the NHL, and I still believe it could come back to haunt the Rangers and Staal.
For Wolski, the move could serve as both rehab and as a way to get back in the swing of things. For Christensen the move would solely serve as a way for the winger to get more time on the ice.
Anyway, about the shootout. Wolski and Christensen are two of the best shootout scorers on the Rangers, so the win last night could help make the Rangers' end of the decision easier.
Thoughts on the possible moves, the Rangers roster, and any moves that should/could be made?

At some point Wolski needs to play.
Feds and Rupp will need a maintenance night eventually. Wouldnt mind seeing him with Hagelin & Boyle. I don’t even care about shoot outs now that the team is good enough to win in regulation and not the skills competition. Thst said, Wolski would be a no brainer 1st round shootout choice.
By the way, watching Boyle, Hagelin & Feds completely dominate down low makes me wonder if the Rangers would go for a rental goal scoring winger on that line.

Just curious...
How could rehabing in the AHL come back to haunt the Rangers and Stall?? I have never heard objections to this policy before.
I believe he was saying that Staal NOT having a rehab stint with the Whale may come back to haunt Staal and the Rangers.

How do waivers work with rehab stints?
I’m guessing that players are exempt from wavers when being sent down an called up for rehab stints…

Fake injury?
:)
I suppose they figure no one will take Christensen off of waivers anyway…

Conditioning Stints are exepted from waivers
Players need to agree to being sent down and i think there are rules around how long they can be down for.

a
yeah they would probably be safe just sending him down lol
by CrazyRangerFan on Jan 11, 2012 8:36 AM EST up reply actions
I believe if they are sent down with permission of the player for a “conditioning stint” they don’t have to go through waivers.

forget that, there's bigger news brewing
According to US Weekly, Olivia Munn has broken up with Brad Richards.
"She ended it with him," a source tells Us. "She had to. It’s not really complicated. She just realized she liked him as a friend and nothing more."

wow what a diss
Olivia Munn is so very hot.
nothing like being told “I like you as a friend.” in the national media. I prefer my rejections private.
Ricky seems like a nice guy but from what I saw on HBO, he has the personality of a doorknob.

I don’t feel that hockey players are the most interesting characters. Also she could probably do alot better considering she’s in New York. (needless to say, i’ll be tweeting her my phone number within the hour)

it can buy hot women, just not ones with a career and money of their own.
Just look at Stepan’s, Dubi’s, or Boyle’s girlfriend from HBO.

I would put quotes around “career” and “money” … she isn’t a big baller or anything and has a pretty bad reputation. I like her still, since she is like a “hot geek”.
fair enough. i do agree with her having the “geek factor”. let’s say she has aspirations for her own career and money
by truebluesince75 on Jan 11, 2012 10:38 AM EST up reply actions
Yeah she really hasn’t accomplished a hell of a lot in the entertainment industry. She’s also apparently a fraud when in comes to being a “geek girl” and she only really did that game news bs on G4 . She is hot but BRich on top of speaking like he had a bag of marshmellows in his mouth doesn’t seem like he’s good with long conversations and you know women love conversations. He needs to find a girl with no big salary future, hometown hottie. If Dubi with his 7 year old catholic school boy haircut can get a hot girl B Rich will be fine. I didn’t see him going out with the boys in 24/7…someone needs to take him out….maybe Prust or boyle or hank can b his wingman

Prust and Boyle seem like they would find some uses for Richards’ bankroll. Del Zotto too. Aweomse if he wears the naughty reindeer sweater during non-bad sweater parties.

they must just attend runways and other model parties
Back before the renovation, I sat with all the Rangers gfs and sometimes wives and they all look like the pic above. It never mattered how good looking the player was or that he had no teeth and a nose that was crushed more times then I could count.

Hank should never be a wingman
I dont care who you are (woman, man, dog, alien), but its hard to refute that Hank is objectively a very good looking man. I would never want him as my wingman, because women would give him all the attention. You need a wingman that is less good looking.
And Stepan’s gf was hot also and he looks like an awkward prepubescent teenager.

(How I Met Your Mother Reference) I feel like Girardi is someone you dont have as a wingman. He just has that like ability and style.
But Biron has that Canadian humor. That charm who breaks the ice. Like Barney Stinson in how I met your mother " Have you met my friend Ted ?"

Good win, solid D play, got a little too fancy multiple times in the offensive zone which let to turnovers, but a good all around performance. I would assume Brad Richards had his mind elsewhere last night (probably about his girl breaking up with him) cause I think he had one of his worst games so far as a Ranger. He was invisible all night..
He played noticeably well defensively, especially for him. He was very active on the backcheck and broke up a couple of plays with hustle. Overall though, yeah, that line was probably the worst of the 4 last night.

yeah, you’re right he did have some good deffensive plays. I think I just expect to see him on the score sheet in some form and when that doesn’t happen I seem to overlook alot of his game.
Thats because his backchecking is normally something to overlook lol, its normally brutally bad.

you don’t keep a player on the roster just for the shoot out. If you do, MZA would be that guy. EC is useless. WW may add something to this team but I think he will be on a short leash so as not to disrupt the chemistry. Who sits…Feds?
Absolute Worst Ranger Fan!!!!!!....yet incredibly realistic and usually correct.
MZA has literally one move that, somehow, worked 5 times in a row.

Prospal
He knows and fits Torts system, has scored 9 goals and 21 assists so far, and would be the 3rd leading scorer on the Rangers. Through the 1st half of this season, Vinny has also proven that his knee problems are behind him. He would add to our power play and be a valuable role player in the playoffs (like Glen Anderson did for us back in 1994).
I agree somewhat. He was a risk but if he wasn’t on Columbus I think they would be in worse shape then they are now.

This might be alot to give but….. WW, EC, and…..Zuc for Prospal and maybe a mid range pick?? Think Columbus would go for that?
Zuc alone might be enough. Or just a 3rd might get it done.
But if they want to take EC, I will gift wrap him myself…in barbed wire.

Meh, I don’t think Prospal really fits in here any more. Where do we put him? Is he really going to fit into the top 2 lines and going to be able to keep up? He’s not going next to Boyle on the defensive line…
We need a scorer, not an old, slow set-up type of guy that isn’t physical.
He could help the PP, rotate in and out of the line up to give guys some rest. I think there is room for him. He really isn’t that slow of a skater and has decent board play too. It’s also one more player that was on that cup winning Tampa team. Did you forget how good he was for us the last few weeks of last season, If I’m not mistaken he was our leading scorer during that stretch. Too get a solid yourg scorer we have to give up personel that we want to keep. If we can scoop up vinny for guys that are nott in the line up anyway its a win win.
Prospal would definitely help
You can almost put him anywhere. You can put him on the 1st line, the 2nd line, even the 3rd line. He will give a big addition to the powerplay, he knows Torts’ system pretty well, and he has experience.

Our forwards have been good all year regarding injuries, you never know if Stepan, AA, Dubi, or Cally get hurt. Hopefully BR and Gabby don’t.

He is doing pretty well on a pretty bad team.
He can slot almost anywhere. LW with BR. We know he clicked Gabby. And as Tripod said he is plug-and-play with the system and a known entity that will fit back in the room with no issue.

Put him at either C or LW on the 2nd or 3rd line.
He plays instead of Rupp pretty much, and will fill in just line.
